National Trust AGM

PRAMtran · 04/09/2023 13:59

I’ve received an email from the National Trust inviting me and all other members to vote in their AGM. Does anyone know if there are any things a woman’s rights advocate should vote for or against. Eg TWAW by stealth.

@GodessOfThunder

They don't have an argument- it's wilful ignorance (literally).

ArabeIIaScott · 09/09/2023 08:44

'They'?

Bit rude.

TheHoover · 09/09/2023 08:46

@ArabeIIaScott do your eyes gloss over the other numerous othering posts on this thread?

So you would like to impose queerness into the national trust?

it’s knee-jerk dismissal through lazy association

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/09/2023 08:48

The argument has been clearly made. People are objecting to particular political agendas being pushed by the heritage sector. The wilful ignorance is yours because you don't understand why, and make zero effort to do so.

Sausagenbacon · 09/09/2023 08:51

I think the main problem in this discourse is the 'nanny knows best' attitude displayed by some posters.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/09/2023 08:51

You object to this Restore Trust, and that's perfectly fine, but you'll have to do better than the elitist sneering and lazy patronising on this thread, or you might find their support increases in bodies like the NT, to the point where they have control. It doesn't do to despise the people who pay for your work.

I've asked several times why people object to discussions about slavery or queer history.

No answers other than sarcasm.

TheHoover · 09/09/2023 08:55

@Ereshkigalangcleg I’m keen for some further dissection of the boundaries between what you describe as a political agenda and progress in advancing equality. Otherwise this is just lazy association (and even lazier attempts to dock this into GC)

The government have a political agenda to dismiss the notion that there is racism still in the uk. I would say you and others are tuned right in to this political agenda.

@DatumTarum

That may be how they responded to you, because they think you're a bit foolish, perhaps, but to say that people haven't laid out what they object to anywhere on this 560 post thread is a lie.

PRAMtran · 09/09/2023 08:56

So what is wrong with Restore Trust

Ok, where?

Go on, quote it.

Surprise me and post something devoid of sarcasm and insults.

The overreach of queer theory is my main concern, I've argued other points about slavery as a general principle, mostly. Don't try to put words into my mouth, thank you.

See the links I posted at the start of the thread.

They're Tufton Street.

ArabeIIaScott · 09/09/2023 08:59

Look, I'm not the NT's target audience. tbh I don't really get excited by stately homes, on the whole. And I'm not willing to pay the fees they charge for garden visits.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, though.

Not surprised

ArabeIIaScott · 09/09/2023 09:01

I do find the general accusatory attempts to smear and deride anyone with questions an interesting strategy for encouraging diversity and inclusion, though.

Not really for everyone, is it?
