Alice Cooper has said what loads of people think but are too scared to say, and the cosmetics firm who produce his make up products have dropped him.
.
Hopefully he won't back down on this one.

Rock legend Alice Cooper dropped after trans comments

Alice Cooper, the eyeliner wearing “Godfather of Shock Rock,” was dumped by a cosmetics company after the singer questioned the rush to perform trans surgeries on kids and said that transitioning genders was a “fad.”

I quite like Alice Cooper’s radio programme. He’s often my late night
meno-insomnia chum.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nights_with_Alice_Cooper

In the UK it’s broadcast via Planet Rock Radio:
https://planetradio.co.uk/planet-rock/shows/nights-with-alice-cooper/

Thanks, I’m going to listen to that. Probably not as an insomnia cure though. 😜

He hasn't been cancelled. One of the world's many make-up suppliers has issued a pompous virtue signalling statement and lost some business.

Was going to say the same thing. Wish this stupid word ‘cancelled’ wasn’t churned out at every opportunity to undermine someone. He’s not cancelled, he’s still up and about and breathing and living his life and rich enough to go about his day exactly as he wants.

"Missing the point but "Holy crap" is surely offensive to many Christians?"

Oh, give over!

Pudmyboy · 01/09/2023 10:05

It looks like he had only been in partnership with the company for 2weeks, unless I am reading this wrong:

Well they’re terrible allies anyway, not only is Alice Cooper a ‘cishet white man” (boo, hiss), he also works with Johnny Depp. So supporting alleged women beaters is fine, but don’t you say mean things about kids being sterilised before they’re too young to know what that actually entails!

Jonny Depp was found "Not guilty" wasn't he? Confused

BaronessBomburst · 01/09/2023 10:09

How did I not know about an Alice Cooper/ Chris Cornell collab? 😲
And Alice won't give a monkey's uncle. If anything he'll shout louder.

Pudmyboy · 01/09/2023 10:12

Looks like the collaboration hadn't even properly got going, and they are trying to make out they are more important than they really are:

Zodfa · 01/09/2023 10:14

Saw some posts on Twitter implying he's basically just a stupid old man who doesn't understand and is reduced to repeating Fox News talking points ...

When you're so removed from critical thought you think critical thought is stupidity.

Pudmyboy · 01/09/2023 10:14

There's no other sign of any products relating to him on the website, so all this fuss over something that never got off the ground! Doubt Alice will lose any sleep over this. Seems to have been inflated out of all proportion by that press article!

Ha!

The track list is often more chilled than you might imagine - Alice is a pensioner after all 😂

He’s a funny chap. I’ve not listened since Alice’s gender-hoo-ha started last week but I’m going to have a catch up and see if he’s mentioned it on air.

Wanderingowl · 01/09/2023 10:21

I don't think Vampyr Cosmetics got the reaction they wanted as they have removed themselves from Twitter following the reaction to their statement.

I saved it last week, still have screen shots on my phone (I put the Alice Cooper page on the Vampyre Cosmetics website into an internet archive too).

Alice Cooper comments on medicalising children were publicised on August 23rd in Rolling Stone from comments made in a public interview.

August 25th he dropped a new album went straight to No 1 in indie charts.

He has still been on tour in the Freaks on Parade tour with Rob Zombie, Ministry and Filter over the last 8 days still big crowds. Film footage from concert on August 27th in Florida. Lots of people there.

Vampyr Cosmetics cancelled their deal with Alice a few days ago since then they got so much back lash they closed their social media. They were more "cancelled" than Alice was. There has been lots of talk/media over that, but it is meaningless when he is still filling concert venues, selling albums.

He hasn't commentated further, but hasn't retracted a word.

Alice proves what Gervais and Chapelle did, men can say whatever they want about gender stuff. They may get push back... Chapelle had the most, but if you push through it will not impact your popularity at all and moreover the gender mob will give up after a while. Because men can have opinions.

Compare what happened with Rosin. Her own label has turned on her over stuff she said in private basically very similar to what Alice said but way more casually. She had to give out a weird semi apology. Everyone is still swarming her.

It is frustrating, but the double standard will undermine them in the end. Because as JKR and many others proved if they utterly fail in cancelling a woman they melt down and get more and more obsessed. So they create bigger platforms for women who will speak out like Maya, Riley Gaines, Martina etc.

Archive link for the Vampyre Cosmetics page as it was on August 25th.

(not a paywall workaround, MNHQ, don’t worry!)

Helleofabore · 01/09/2023 10:42

The difference is that for a woman not to be cancelled, she has to have billions. For a man not to be cancelled, he has to have millions and maybe seen as currently high social value or a value that is based where a group trying to cancel them just build their social value higher.

Women rarely have that kind of social power where a group cancelling them builds their social power.

Men still get cancelled though, look at Glinner. However, men seem to say something and then they may not say anything more about it. They will not take it up as a fight. Whereas Glinner turned and fought. As has Joanne Rowling.

I'm surprised at myself. I'm really feeling quite emotional about the Roisin story, over her personally.

When I was young I was pretty blasé about women's rights (what twenty something male has any time for feminism?).

But I've always been very sensitive to people being bullied. And this is the most pertinent example of bullying I've seen in many a year.

Alice Cooper is ugly enough, thick skulled enough, and critically, male enough, to navigate his firestorm.

Roisin has been taken straight to the stake, and the fire has been lit.

Appledrop · 01/09/2023 11:00

I've given him a follow on both Twitter & Facebook.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 01/09/2023 11:04

Love Alice, and he's talking sense.

They probably think he is trans. Or a woman. That name , it's so confusing! And he only had his first hit in 1972 so it takes a while for people to adapt. Cut them some slack , Alice....

I see what you did there. 😉

Schools out! Poison! I wanna be elected!

Listen with the sound turned up to 11.

did he ever actually record a version of Only Women Bleed?
He is worth loving forever if only for that. (and that fantastic cameo in the Wayne's World film)

“We stand with all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and believe everyone should have access to healthcare. All pre-order sales will be refunded.”

Do they even know what "healthcare" means? It doesn't mean providing self-harming drugs and surgeries for a profit.

What I find particularly baffling is that so many of the people who go on about everyone having access to healthcare in the context of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones live in a country where many women can't access abortion and you have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for maternity care. I'd understand those kinds of comments a lot more coming from people in the UK where everyone does actually have access to healthcare.

Roisin has been taken straight to the stake, and the fire has been lit.

That both Alice and Roisin have been going through this the same week has really highlighted how different it can be depending on one’s sex.

Alice’s subcultural musical genre (and thus the industry around him) probably helps a lot too (rock & metal are popular with ‘Edge Lords’ of all ages but punk has become overrun with little wokescolds. Must be the ‘blue hair’ section of the punk/fun police Venn diagram).

Slightly tangential but not worth a thread of it’s own, I sometimes listen to the podcasts made by Justin Hawkins of The Darkness (not really into that band’s musical output but JH’s YouTube channel fell into my suggestions and since listening I have come to quite like him as warts-and-all type chap who talks quite candidly about his past eating disorders, alcoholism and promiscuity).
The episodes I like best are the ones he does with his female producer, Jenny May Finn. I recently listened to an (older?) episode where they were kinda playing a game re: giving interviews to the music press. Jenny was roleplaying a journalist and asking tricksy questions designed to produce an inflammatory, cancelworthy headline (which is I guess what happened to Alice?) and she, unsurprisingly, throws out some questions relating to trans ideology. Justin says that whatever your answer is to those sorts of questions it will alienate some of your audience (basically the ‘you could keep your mouth shut and be loved forever’ shit that gets flung at JK Rowling) and Jenny pushes at him a bit, gently mocking him for his cowardice.

Need to re listen as I was mid DIY job at the time but Jenny seemed sensibly terfy to me.

More evidence (cough!) for my fantasy theory of a Gender Skeptical Rockstars Whatsapp group chat 😆

also Alice Cooper does this:

Alice Cooper Solid Rock | Young Lives. In purpose.

I listen to Radio Bob here in Germany and I guess it's part of the Planet Rock stable, I'd never thought about it before, I often catch Alice Cooper's show, in English, and did vaguely wonder why he broadcast in Germany.

He did indeed, he wrote it!

MenopauseSucks · 01/09/2023 11:41

I saw Alice Cooper a few years ago.
His fans are so loyal, he could've walked on stage, farted into the mic & they still would've gone mad with delight!
Both sexes wearing a lot of makeup.

I doubt this will bother him & he's saying things his fans agree with.
Only Women Bleed was about a woman suffering domestic violence. The lyrics are worth a read.
