Hmm. Wes Streeting is very ambitious and can see which way the wind is blowing.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/07/2023 19:44

Hmm, he didn’t apologise for things he’s said or done. It’s a bit vague.

Wes is incredulity ambitious. I suspect he’s a pragmatist.

Times Radio, where he said it, are generally doing excellent work on the topic.

Yes my thoughts too. I think he’s after being the next leader

Words are cheap.

IcakethereforeIam · 28/07/2023 19:57

If I squint (and tilt my head) I can just about see that as an apology. But who wants to go around squinting and with a wonky head?

Boiledbeetle · 28/07/2023 19:57

I’m really sorry about the way Rosie’s been treated.”

...topic of self-ID had “sometimes created a wedge between friends”.

“There are times when Rosie’s kind of tweeted or liked certain things and I’ve been really upset and there were times where, you know, I’ve taken a much more defensive position around trans equality and Rosie’s felt that [I] personally, and others, haven’t listened.

“That’s why I think we’ve got to try and find a better way through this to create a culture in which friendships aren’t divided, families aren’t divided, and countries aren’t divided.”

It's all very blghhhh isn't it

Floisme · 28/07/2023 20:03

It's marginally better than if he'd said, 'I'm sorry Rosie's upset' but I wouldn't call it an apology - yet.

But they're clearly worried, and so they should be.

Keep going Labour, you've got about 18 months to get it right.

'Hmm. Wes Streeting is very ambitious and can see which way the wind is blowing'

💯. Wouldnt trust him any more than I trust Starmer at the moment

QueenHippolyta · 28/07/2023 20:11

He had that secret group to oust GC Labour women....that tells me his true nature.

JacquelinePot · 28/07/2023 20:16

“I’m really sorry about the way Rosie’s been treated.”

As if "treatment" is some sort of spontaneous occurance, a force of nature like the wind or tides. Except it's not, is it, Wes? You and all those nasty zealots in the Labour party did the "treating".

3/10 must try harder

PronounssheRa · 28/07/2023 20:16

Streeting is an ambitious weathervane.

He needs to explain the extent of his involvement in the Labour against transphobia Facebook group, run by Madigan and others.

nonman · 28/07/2023 20:16

it isn’t an apology, they must think women are stupid if they can bully Rosie for years and think that , that half arsed drivel goes anywhere near redressing what she has been through.
That Beth Rigby interview must have scared the pants off the Labour Party .
I wonder if Eddie/Suzie Izzard is still on the candidate shortlist.

Tanith · 28/07/2023 20:18

Rosie Duffield appears happy with it and she's the one who matters, surely.

All you're doing is demonstrating that, in actual fact, you don't want to see an apology from Keir Starmer or anyone else in the Labour Party. They can apologise all they like; you'll refuse to see it as anything other than a cynical ploy.

Wes Streeting is one of the very few politicians so far to offer anything like an apology. I'm sure there must be others but, at the moment, I can't think of a single one of them. Good job they never wasted their breath, isn't it?

nonman · 28/07/2023 20:21

It needs to be a sincere apology, and it really doesn’t seem like it is sincere, it feels like it is a sop to shut up women

Boiledbeetle · 28/07/2023 20:27

I want to see apologies. Actual apologies that address how they've treated Rosie and other women. How women are born and not bloody worn.

Instead we get words rearranged in an order that they hope seems like an apology or an admission when it isn't.

Actual heartfelt apologies would be great. But there's been none of them.

AutumnCrow · 28/07/2023 20:28

That's not an apology. After all this time and all the abuse, that's an insult.

Agree

DudeItsPrawns · 28/07/2023 20:33

I think of that as an "apology" as much as I think Starmer "believes" women are adult human females.

PronounssheRa · 28/07/2023 20:34

Rosie Duffield appears happy with it and she's the one who matters, surely.

All the women on the Labour against transphobia witch hunt list also deserve an explanation and apology

ATerrorofLeftovers · 28/07/2023 20:39

Very gracious of Rosie not to tell him to stick his half-‘apology’ up his arse.

Ah, Lily 'All That Lovely Data' Madigan? That one?

These politicians operate in a representative democracy, Tanith; they are not running personal autocracies. It is entirely in the public interest for this to be discussed by the women that this Labour policy disaster affects the most.
