Anyone seen one of these elsewhere, or has this pub written it up specially?

I always carry a pen, I'd be scrawling something right across this. I think I need stickers.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 19/06/2023 11:44

Are they spread by tourists from the US? Or maybe young people who have grown up on American telly programmes?

Using the toilet is not a sex neutral act. Men and women have different reproductive and different excretory organs. Therefore basing a space for a bodily function on the particular body of men or women makes sense.

In Newspeak;

it makes sense to have the menstruators, menopausers, gestators and in fact all the vulva people in one space, for shorthand let’s call it the women’s toilets.

The ejaculators, impregnators and all the penis people should have their own space and for short we could call it the men’s toilets.

Body specific spaces for specific bodily needs and processes.

lady69 · 19/06/2023 11:50

That is so passive aggressive it’ll just piss off women even more. They can’t help but show how male they are.

i’d be changing trans to “men” with a black permanent marker. And then sticker it somewhere.

Fenlandia · 19/06/2023 11:52

"Restricting trans freedoms will restrict yours too" - ODFOD!!

Many women are already restricted because they self-exclude from spaces where they have experienced male violence and harassment, or are afraid of this. I self-exclude from venues where the toilet provision is either mixed sex, or so inadequate for women's needs that I lose half my evening in queues.

nauticant · 19/06/2023 12:00

We are focusing on bathrooms as they seem central in the duscussion around trans people.

That needs a translation:

We are focusing on bathrooms because: 1) we can trivialise the whole thing into one side issue and thus ignore the real substantial issues that would otherswise engage the interest of the public; and 2) we have a US-focused colonial mindset.

SidewaysOtter · 19/06/2023 12:54

<makes note to keep Sharpie pen in bag>

Kilopascal · 19/06/2023 12:58

Write on them, 'Yes, toilets are separated by sex not gender, for good reason. Male people should use the men's.'

SirChenjins · 19/06/2023 13:02

This has to be a US poster - no-one here calls the pub loos or toilets ‘bathrooms’.

My red corrector pen will be very busy if I ever come across that BS.

I mean obviously the idea has come from "bathroom bills" in the US, so it's natural that if they're repeating the rhetoric used there, the language is going to creep in too.

I sometimes say bathroom and I'm not American, and I think it's dangerous to think this isn't happening in the UK too as obviously it is and has been for quite a while now.

spiderplantparty · 19/06/2023 13:16

So what are they going to do to protect women from predatory men who will abuse the trans manifesto? Oh nothing? What a surprise. After all, why care about what a uterus haver/bleeder thinks?

spiderplantparty · 19/06/2023 13:21

Silly me (uterus haver). Of course no one would ever abuse the trans manifesto so I don't need to worry about predatory males in women's toilets...

I'll just forget about the trans offender in Scotland who abused a girl in a supermarket toilet.

Helleofabore · 19/06/2023 13:40

It is begging for a nice calm sticker.

I’m not saying it isn’t happening here - it absolutely is, and the US rhetoric is loud and clear. It needs to be challenged at every opportunity so that it doesn’t become the accepted norm here as well.

Zodfa · 19/06/2023 14:10

Points to them for managing to keep it only vaguely threatening, although "RESTRICTING TRANS FREEDOMS WILL RESTRICT YOURS TOO" was maybe going a bit far. What does it even mean??

SirChenjins · 19/06/2023 14:14

It means that they will use every shady tactic in the book to keep women in their place - a veiled threat not to speak out.

Of course, women are sticking their collective middle fingers up to that.

MissPollysFitDolly · 19/06/2023 14:40

Kilopascal · 19/06/2023 12:58

Write on them, 'Yes, toilets are separated by sex not gender, for good reason. Male people should use the men's.'

Do please write this if you can (and change the 'bathrooms' to 'toilets'!).

Yes, 100%

Because if they actually said that we think women with a vagina should go to a men's prison because they identify as a man or men with a penis should go into women's prison because they identify as a woman, I expect about 90% of adults would disagree.

Thelnebriati · 19/06/2023 14:42

How about 'women's toilets are single sex for reasons of biology, safeguarding and privacy'?

AgathaSpencerGregson · 19/06/2023 14:45

idiots. Of course toilets are gender neutral. That’s why it doesn’t make an iota of difference if you use the one specified for your sex. You are not making any statement about your personality, interests or “identity”. Just using the loo specified for people of your sex, so that the safety and privacy of all is preserved.

OldGardinia · 19/06/2023 14:56

I would just write "You can do all this in your own loos" on it in marker pen.

You should already have one handy for putting a line through the TQ on the end of LGBTQ logos, anyway.

OldGardinia · 19/06/2023 14:59

Actually I'd just put a line through everything after "frustrated by" and replace it with "seeing you pee".

OldGardinia · 19/06/2023 15:00

Urgh. I meant to type "by not seeing you pee."

SinnerBoy · 19/06/2023 15:03

RESTRICTING TRANS FREEDOMS WILL RESTRICT YOURS TOO

Huh? Keeping men out of women's toilets - does that mean they'll shut all the women's toilets?

Rightsraptor · 19/06/2023 15:07

I've never been to a pub with a bathroom. Is this a new thing? Do they have showers as well as a bath?

All the pubs near me have toilets.

heartsinvisiblefury · 19/06/2023 15:11

I'd be going with the old school childish graffiti behaviour and just drawing a huge cock and bollocks on it
