I'm always genuinely thankful for these threads. I learn so much.

As a (dual citizen) kiwi living in New Zealand, I'm afraid that boycott is something that I'm going to lose.

I'm glad Lego is off the list, we love it and it's the only thing that helps my ds1 (ADHD) with his hand eye coordination and helps him learn focus and concentration skills.

But what did Asics do? They're the only shoes my 15yr old (same one as above) has had that have lasted him longer than 6 months. In fact they're nearly 2 years old and still going strong. I will be gutted if I can't buy him a new pair when he needs them.

The rest of the list is easy enough. We don't have some of those brands here and the rest usually have decent alternatives available.

WelshWannabe · 09/07/2024 14:39

Actually scrap that question about Asics. I just read the rest of the post.

My son went to the states last year and was shocked how the USA folks completely rejected the stuff, they threw it away, wouldn't be seen drinking it, were embarrassed to be seen with it. Bud tried giving it away and people wouldn't take it. Just because a transgender influencer was employed to promote. Do you reckon Americans are unreasonable? Sounds like even the cowboys wouldn't accept anything all inclusive?

Bird and Blend - pronoun badges proudly on display in store.

Needless to say we made a swift exit without buying anything.

That’s a good letter, I haven’t shopped in John Lewis in years now despite it previously being my first stop for most things.

I still shop in Waitrose as it’s my closest supermarket, I’ve reduced the amount I buy there by buying pet food and bulky items online and some fruit and veg from Aldi but have continued to buy most fresh food at Waitrose for now. However the male assistant in my local store that wears their thinning hair in little girl bunches is making me increasingly uncomfortable, and the atmosphere in store is very different these days.

TrainedByCats · 01/10/2024 15:14

Boots featured a male in their list of empowering women back in 2021 they refer to some of the backlash from that here although of course they don’t accept that it was inappropriate and insulting to women https://www.walgreensbootsalliance.com/news-media/our-stories/ally-trans-community

They are nearing the end of their closure of 300 stores over the last year. I believe they still have approx 1000 stores left.

An ally to the trans community

Boots UK stands with Eva Echo, a member of the trans community, to encourage positive conversations on social media.

I used to work at the Boots head office. Their workforce were something like 70% women (although, naturally their leadership team was predominantly male). And their customer base is overwhelmingly female. To put all of that in jeopardy for a social fashion statement that puts women and children in danger… well, words fail. Plus, they aim to be seen as a trusted healthcare provider. Not any more.

Nike are struggling. They're now going back to delivering for ordinary people who run. Is it going to be ordinary people who run, or 'extraordinary and brave' people who run

lcakethereforeIam · 05/10/2024 10:14

Game developer Ubisoft but other entertainment companies come under the umbrella for criticism.

Oh I say,! I think this guy nails it (wobbles a bit imo when blaming 'females' at 3.50 but sticks the landing)

I don't know who he is, perhaps the self importance at the end is justified, but it did make me roll my eyes at little.

Edited to add

He's very scathing about DEI and the toxic people who are pushing it in its current form.

Marmite? Can't remember why, but found Aldi and Tesco versions perfectly acceptable.

Zelle70 · 07/10/2024 18:57

I don't know if it's been mentioned (it's a nine page thread) but don't forget Costa and their awful advert with the cartoon girl with mastectomy scars

Zelle70 · 07/10/2024 19:01

And here it is.

Go Woke & Go Broke! New list of boycotted brands..
lcakethereforeIam · 20/11/2024 15:10

When I watched it the ad had nearly 82,000 views and not a single like 😳

The comments are a...well...a car crash.

I hope it's a parody

lcakethereforeIam · 20/11/2024 15:32

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a part 2 reveal that'll redeem them.

Adding Jaguar to the list wtf were they thinking😳

Nope, not getting why this needs to be added to the list?

The bloke in a dress wielding a sledge hammer imagery when we have so much violent TW threatening women imagery at present, that together with ‘break moulds’ tagline is tone deaf to womens rights concerns at best as it’s too close to the imagery and messaging used to intimidate and shut women up.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/11/2024 17:19

I'm concerned as to where he pulled the sledgehammer from.

Nellieinthebarn · 20/11/2024 18:08

I'm not really in the market for a Jag, but should I win the lottery, I will not be buying one. So there.

TheKeatingFive · 20/11/2024 18:11

The major problem with the jag ad is not that it's woke. It's that it is among the most terrible ads I have ever seen.

TrainedByCats · 20/11/2024 18:37

I was in the market for one as I planned to replace my slightly ageing Jag with another because sad as it is I love driving my current car and I have to do a lot of work miles. I’m really pissed off tbh - I realise that’s probably only going to elicit tiny violins Grin

Up until the sledgehammer it was a rainbow washed really shit ad but rightly or wrongly I immediately associated that imagery with the stfu terf violent images.

EsmaCannonball · 20/11/2024 18:45

Surely the Jaguar, or should that be jaGUar, rebrand must be a joke? Or some kind of trolling viral exercise?

I've read several articles from car industry and marketing professionals today that all express astonishment and dismay. Apparently when Jaguar goes all electric it is actually planning to double the prices of its vehicles and is prepared to jettison 85-90% of its existing customer base. I find it hard to believe that strategy will work but the ad may be an indicator of the market they are going for. We know the young and woke tend to be middle class but not necessarily the kind of rich that has the money for a double-price Jag. It's insane. The cars are going to have to be incredible.

Mike Baldwin would be livid.
