Thread 1:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776556-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

You do not need to have read thread 1 – this is not that sort of thread.

But to recap… Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

“Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” was published as a paperback on 31st March 2023.

Available on Amazon only: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C129WKDD

In a rather bizarre turn of events at one point it reached No 2 in poetry best sellers and No 5 in Feminist Criticism best sellers. No one will be surprised to discover that a book that is in the main about people, especially men, claiming to be something they are not was kept off the No1 spot in poetry best sellers by a crime novel, identifying as poetry, written by a man ;-)

E-BOOK:

Some people wanted an e-book rather than a paperback, but for that we needed someone who could actually make an e-book and some extra poems.

FairyKindleMother came to the rescue with regards the e-book and posters wrote enough poems that we could add 20 more poems into the e-book.

I pressed publish on the e-book a few hours ago. It can take usually up to 3 days to appear and populate all the info etc on the various sites, and there is always the chance they knock it back for some reason. But I've done all I can do at this point. We just have to wait and see who spots it on sale first! It will appear on the Amazon link above hopefully soon, (or I'll get an email asking me to change something).

MONEY FROM SALES OF ALL FORMATS:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”
Magdalen Berns (1983 – 2019)

As I started work on the e-book posters continued to write poems. So we had a choice: leave them there, languishing on the thread, unloved, forgotten, never to have their words uttered again OR we could just do volume 2.

Posters voted for Volume 2 but we still need more poems!

And that’s the gist of thread 1.

Orville as in "I wish I could fly"??
I ʼate that duck.

Sending you Tunnocks. Asda had them briefly yesterday then they were all gone today. Maybe my small town has a large population of FWR residents.

Sci fi series. The ship is called the Orville, obviously never heard of Britain's annoying green duck in America!

@CervixSampler photos or it didn't happen.

because I wanted to see how any there were ive just finished renumbering the poems.

thanks to the flurry of poems on 5th October we have now got a book that is double the size of the original.

volume 1 was 80 poems

volume 2 is 161 poems!

and now I'm off back to poem 127

And this time it's not just poems as its gone over rather a long period of time and many subjects I'm having the joy of having to do internett/mumsnet searches to go back and find the official story about half of them so that I can explain some (a lot) of the poems

in future i think each poem poster should also post the poem with its own historical blurb if its a news story poem!! no no no scratch that.

there is no next time. no volume 3

no no no. forgive me i don't know what i was thinking there for a moment!

i think Im due another cup of tea before i start...

You'll have a fridge door full of them before you know it!On

Currently horizontal going through the full draft with a highlighter why is it you miss so many things when you go through it? I've just spotted a surgeon instead of a Sturgeon!

And arcane's poems are just a mass of words with red lines underneath!!! If I add them all to my dictionary in order to Get rid of the lines I'm forever going to have Scottish words popping up all over the bloody place in every document i produce!

I have discovered you have more than one spelling of the same word in one poem! you've got weemin which turns up in two poems and wimmin which is in with one of the weemin!

God damn you!!

Sorry.

In my defence there are a few variations - I’m not just making women up. And I probably have a couple more. Change if you feel it appropriate lovely x. Wumman. Weemin. Wimmen. Yadda yadda.

Sorey. 😈 x

Oh thank God. All spellings of woman are legitimate! (Even if not all people claiming the word are)

I'm being unfair it wasnt that that stopped me. I just hit poem overload at some point this morning and realised I needed a day off!

That has been my day more or less!

I am at the point where I've read all the poems quite a few times now, so I miss the mistakes as my brain just thinks oh you've read that before and skips over it all.

I found a woman (not one of yours) that I'd accidentally deleted the w off the front of it and I could see there was a mistake but it took three readings to work out what the mistake was. At that point I thought it best to stop!

I just knew he looked funny. It took me two days to realise because I was concentrating on the hatchet job they’d done on his hair….

It's probably have not noticed missing eyebrows!

I once spent an evening out with my then boyfriend, kept looking at him, I knew something was different, but couldn't put my finger on what it was.

It was only much later in the nights activities that i realised he'd shaved his beard off and I now had stubble rash!
