Thread 1:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776556-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

You do not need to have read thread 1 – this is not that sort of thread.

But to recap… Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

“Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” was published as a paperback on 31st March 2023.

Available on Amazon only: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C129WKDD

In a rather bizarre turn of events at one point it reached No 2 in poetry best sellers and No 5 in Feminist Criticism best sellers. No one will be surprised to discover that a book that is in the main about people, especially men, claiming to be something they are not was kept off the No1 spot in poetry best sellers by a crime novel, identifying as poetry, written by a man ;-)

E-BOOK:

Some people wanted an e-book rather than a paperback, but for that we needed someone who could actually make an e-book and some extra poems.

FairyKindleMother came to the rescue with regards the e-book and posters wrote enough poems that we could add 20 more poems into the e-book.

I pressed publish on the e-book a few hours ago. It can take usually up to 3 days to appear and populate all the info etc on the various sites, and there is always the chance they knock it back for some reason. But I've done all I can do at this point. We just have to wait and see who spots it on sale first! It will appear on the Amazon link above hopefully soon, (or I'll get an email asking me to change something).

MONEY FROM SALES OF ALL FORMATS:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”
Magdalen Berns (1983 – 2019)

As I started work on the e-book posters continued to write poems. So we had a choice: leave them there, languishing on the thread, unloved, forgotten, never to have their words uttered again OR we could just do volume 2.

Posters voted for Volume 2 but we still need more poems!

And that’s the gist of thread 1.

Well I never knew that about the seatbelts. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

Hello you wonderful women. I've bought a copy. It's on it's way whoop whoop!
My first copy was a present, so I'm buying for another friend who's in her eighties and retired from being an activist, but not from life.
She will love to read your words.

How long are you waiting for vol2?

Asking for a friend.

How long are you waiting for vol2?

Asking for a friend.

Clears throat (commitment coming up)...

Touch wood that nothing else comes along to scupper my plans...

I am about (It would have been today but I slept through most of it) pull everything poem related off ALL the various threads (god I'm going to have to do an advanced search on my own comments to find some of them!) so that I can see what we've got.

It's going to take a while to sort and faff so it's going to take a good number of weeks to get it anywhere near ready.

Which means that anything that comes along in the next say month will all have chance to go in as once I've got it in some sort of order anything new that comes in can just be slotted into place. (And yes if something comes along after that as long as I'm still at the faffing stage and haven't done my contents and copy writers pages it will still be able to go In)

In my head I want to get it done so that it's ready to publish by the latest at the end of October / start of November (think of all the people who could receive a copy as a Christmas present!).

The first one I started working on at the start of January and published it at the very end of March so two months. So if I can do it once in 2 months I can do it again in 2 months.I

Obviously if by some miracle I find the energy to do more than about a couple of hours a day I'll keep you updated!

Oh god! I've got to actually do it now! Last time was easy as very few people knew what I was up to!

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 11/08/2023 19:53

Bugger January to march was three months but that included a LOT of time having to work out details with mnhq and chasing down all the poem writers.

At least this time I have all the copy writers permission to begin with!

Plus its not the middle of winter when I just want to hibernate!

Some poems from the Tunnocks thread. I'm fairly sure there will be a Tunnocks chapter at this rate!

Boiledbeetle · 08/08/2023 22:14
dear Chat gpt,

Write me a poem about being in love with Tunnocks products

In wrappers of gold, delights abound,
Tunnock's treats, my heart has found.
Caramel wafers, tempting and sweet,
Love's embrace in every bite we meet.
Teacakes, fluffy clouds, atop a biscuit base,
A symphony of flavors, a tender embrace.
Coated in chocolate, a love so true,
With Tunnock's, my heart finds its cue.
In caramel rivers and chocolate streams,
I'm lost in love, within my dreams.
Oh, Tunnock's treasures, you hold the key,
To a love that's boundless, wild, and free.

AppleTreeOwner · 12/08/2023 12:56

A previous post suggested a poem describing the addiction.

Risen to the challenge…

There once were some Tea Cakes from Tunnocks
Who had lots of ladies quite flummoxed
They tasted Devine
With shivers up the spine
But ended expanding their stomachs

(AppleTreeOwner · Yesterday 13:38
Happy for any tea cake limerick to go in said book under user name. Got to spread the gospel of Tunnocks love.)

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 13/08/2023 15:10

That's an excellent limerick.

On being female:

I once felt a great big bubble
Had a feeling it was gonna be trouble
I felt it slide to from the front to the back
Attempting to leave at the top of the crack
In the end it popped out of my own channel tunnel.

OK you win on the name front!

I'm going to have to teach my new laptop that SpottyBumPony is actually a word!

And there's going to be a book out there at some point that has SpottyBumPony as one of the writers!

Love it 😂

Thank you for poem Spotty 😘

@SpottyBumPony

There's seems to be seen extra to in this line below. is it extra and needs deleting or was it supposed to be something else?

Hehe a true thought on what it means to 'be female' lol. Possibly even my own lived experience

😁 Thanks for clarifying the line saves me chasing you found the boards when I actually get around to checking them all line by line!

I'm presuming, and I could be wrong having never done it myself, you're writing about giving birth. And if you're not, then I dread to think!

OP posts:

I was just thinking about the little fanny bubbles you get? Omg, am I the only person who gets them 😱

despicable me lol GIF

😍 Oh that makes it even better! My first thought was about farting when I read it, but then my head went to one of the other options of what comes out and I didn't want to assume it was fart related and then have you say no. No that was me giving birth! At least this way round it caused the least offense hopefully! 😆

And no, no you are not the only one that gets them!!!!

But I think yours will definitely be in the tea break chapter with the funny stuff😁

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2023 10:51

Especially as this time I'm giving ALL the poems names!

Evil laugh 😈

Actually if anyone write a poem and wants it to have a specific name then let me know or I will have my wicked way with your poem offerings.

The laptop is on, I'm about to think about considering actually sitting down and starting.

I'll just have a cup of tea first!

Sits down at desk...

Spends ten minutes browsing Twitter.

Remembers that wasn't my objective.

Opens new Word doc.

Save as: UTDOD VOL2 V1

And we're off.

Goes to internet to get poems from threads.

Ohhhhh cute cat videos......

You can have this if you like, not sure if it's any good or if you've already got similar...

I'm a good wolf,
I want to be a sheep.
I'd rather eat grass
Than a belly full of meat.

I'm a good wolf,
I'll put on a fleece,
Then go and join the flock,
To live my days in peace.

I'm a good wolf!
Stop running away!
You bigoted sheep!
I just want to play!

I'm a good wolf,
I'll improve my guise.
Then they'll accept me,
Not avert their eyes!

I'm a good wolf!
See me as a sheep!
If you won't then,
I'll give you reason to bleat!

I'm a good sheep!
I'm not a wolf at all!
Why won't you accept me?!
Stop cowering by that wall!!

That other one's a bad wolf.
I know he's dressed up too...
But he's just on the hunt,
I would never eat ewe!

Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2023 12:30

@Piccalillipromises thank you very muchly. I really like it. 😁
goes off to add it too the others!

I'm trying to remember where i left poems on other threads when people said I could have them,

i think i'm going to have to do an advanced search on likely threads for my own comments!

i'm sure I've written them down somewhere and no doubt i will find the piece of paper with them once I've actually found the poems.

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 14/08/2023 20:10

Well I've pulled all the poems off. INCLUDING the ebook ones which i don't think fair that they just languish in the e-book. Most of the people who've bought the book won't have seen them so they need to go in volume 2 I think. (Although the Lola ones many not make the cut).

I've certainly got enough to do volume v2. Rough count there's poems from about 30 different usernames but more are always welcome at least until i reach the point where I have to draw a line in the sand.

I'm knackered now!

OP posts:
LarkLane · 14/08/2023 20:41

LarkLane · 14/08/2023 20:41

Well done you, you are a bloomin legend!

😁 that was the easy bit!

Now I've actually got to do something with them. I'm currently horizontal trying to make brief notes on what each one is about so I can work out what I'm working with!

Puts hand to furrowed brow...

"It's a process you know"

looks mentally pained! on

(Or constipated! Take your pick)
