Thread 1:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4776556-a-mumsnet-thread-about-a-book-about-a-mumsnet-thread-under-the-duvet-of-darkness-written-by-the-women-of-mumsnet?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

You do not need to have read thread 1 – this is not that sort of thread.

But to recap… Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

“Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” was published as a paperback on 31st March 2023.

Available on Amazon only: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C129WKDD

In a rather bizarre turn of events at one point it reached No 2 in poetry best sellers and No 5 in Feminist Criticism best sellers. No one will be surprised to discover that a book that is in the main about people, especially men, claiming to be something they are not was kept off the No1 spot in poetry best sellers by a crime novel, identifying as poetry, written by a man ;-)

E-BOOK:

Some people wanted an e-book rather than a paperback, but for that we needed someone who could actually make an e-book and some extra poems.

FairyKindleMother came to the rescue with regards the e-book and posters wrote enough poems that we could add 20 more poems into the e-book.

I pressed publish on the e-book a few hours ago. It can take usually up to 3 days to appear and populate all the info etc on the various sites, and there is always the chance they knock it back for some reason. But I've done all I can do at this point. We just have to wait and see who spots it on sale first! It will appear on the Amazon link above hopefully soon, (or I'll get an email asking me to change something).

MONEY FROM SALES OF ALL FORMATS:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.

“It’s not hate to defend your rights, and it’s not hate to speak the truth.”
Magdalen Berns (1983 – 2019)

As I started work on the e-book posters continued to write poems. So we had a choice: leave them there, languishing on the thread, unloved, forgotten, never to have their words uttered again OR we could just do volume 2.

Posters voted for Volume 2 but we still need more poems!

And that’s the gist of thread 1.

You what? She needs to complain to the PCC and the arsehole who decided "nothing to see here" needs to be disciplined.

FFS!

Boiledbeetle · 25/07/2023 09:54

Oh an encore @ArcaneWireless thank you muchly. I really must start on doing something with these soon. I haven't counted up lately but I reckon we might be getting near to a books worth. It should at least be enough that I can start working out what my game plan is.

@SinnerBoy I know! The police still don't seeming to be learning that it's not OK for men to assault women!

When you double down and see no ill
When the tale of assault gathers pace
Just know we won’t swallow your bitter pill
You don’t choose to stop fists with your face.

Totally unrelated but as it's my thread I can do what I like

Was just doing something Twitter related for Bill with the following and as I happen to really like the poem I'm posting it here as well.

A GLASS OF SYRAH

We shall leave you footprints in your sand,
Everlasting ripples on your pond,
Horizons infinite beyond your land
And for your hopes a what-you-wish-for wand;
We shall leave you all that we have built,
All that we have dreamt and then made true;
We shall not bequeath you debt nor guilt -
Where anything was owed we paid our due;
We shall leave romances in your sky,
Poems shouting words of love, not loss,
Songs and tunes to lift you by and by,
A hoard of golden thoughts all washed of dross;
We ask for little; just one thing we crave -
Please spill a glass of Syrah on our grave

Keir.

Says women are adult,
human, female.
But is happy,
to let trans prevail,
If trans women are women,
It’s to no avail,
Keir it’s women,
that you fail.

This is not a poem.

ENOUGH NOW!

I have had enough.

We are witnessing
Something akin to
the worlds
longest
toddler tantrum.

On steroids.

I’m sick of the constant witch hunts.
Tired of the inflammatory slurs.

Appalled at the encroachment.
Into our spaces.
Our words.
Our lives.

I am mortified at their behaviour.

The outrage
when someone
dares to have
a dissenting point of view.

Their uncritical thinking.

A collective inability to write
even a few coherent words
on a tatty piece of cardboard.

Those whiny whinging narcissists.

Constantly demanding that
EVERYBODY
acquiesce to the whims
of the most vulnerable
and the so sooooo oppressed.

Make it stop.

July totals (I'm assuming no one is going to buy a copy in the next hour, and I'm on my way to being horizontal)

25 total, 14 paperbacks and 11 e-books.

So 14*0.15 = £2.10 from me and £78.67 complete total = £80.77. I'll send it through tomorrow but probably won't be until the afternoon as I'm busy in the morning.

I get first dibs, if we ever are at the same meet up, I want my copies signed.

Ta much.

ArcaneWireless · 02/08/2023 21:43

Gussie is a proper legend.

Well jel. 😍

Boiledbeetle · 02/08/2023 22:04

@Ourladycheesusedatum v gussie grips... FIGHT! there is currently only 2 signed copies of it! I'm tempted to contact the seller of the used copy on Amazon to find out why it's £20 when you can buy it new for £7.50, purely to see if they say it's signed. Because if they do its forged.

@ArcaneWireless I'm happy to admit that I may be a heterosexual woman but I love Elaine! She's soooooooo cool! I feel like a school girl with a crush!

I've updated my own Twitter banner thingy. If other people are going to use it I might as well myself.

Also discovered where Fred had seen it

Also also it's my birthday! It's my birthday! Well it may or may not be today I started celebrating it on Saturday last weekend when I had visitors and I have more visitors, well just the one sister dearest who has threatened to bring lemon cheesecake and lemon drizzle cake (bitch), this weekend and somewhere within that timeframe I have turned or will turn 51! So I set a random date around my birthday whenever I asked for a dob on internet things so I was surprised when suddenly balloons appeared on my Twitter profile yesterday!

I'm definitely, probably, maybe going to sit down and look at what poems we've got, how many, what the hell I can do with them this time for volume 2 after the birthday celebrations are over!

After a week of celebrations and to much sugar at the back end of it I'm in a lull.

As are the book sales It's not got out of the starting blocks this month!

I had intended to start looking at the threads this week but I'm currently tied up, not literally thank God, with something else that is very time sensitive.

The poems are next on my to do list assuming nothing else surprises me!

Boiledbeetle · Today 18:38

After a week of celebrations and to much sugar at the back end of it...

Well, I've been forced to break my diet, as I'm travelling. I got a packet of German salami (in a German airport) and expected to be able to eat no carbs in the motel, but the kitchen closes at 7 and I had to go to Burger Thing. No chips, but a nasty white bun and despite "No sauce, please!" it was smothered in ketchup, which I tried to wipe off with paper napkins.

Anyway, the on the flight to Copenhagen, I'm delighted to report that I was able to help to entertain a delightful 4 & 1/2 month old German, call Rosalie. Her mother kept apologising, I kept saying, don't apologise. She only cried a little bit, on the descent, when she had to have a seat belt and stop exploring. I showed Mutti a photo of my girl, on cliffs above the River Elbe and she recognised the location, though neither of us could remember the name of it.

Boiledbeetle · 07/08/2023 22:45

You can console yourself that it wasnt your fault, you were FORCED into eating salami. I mean if I'd have been there I'd have ensured you didn't eat the salami. Mainly because it would be down my gullet so bloody fast!

I'm not a fast food person (not through choice, there's just really little choice by me) But since last week I've eaten a mcds sausage and egg muffin with hash brown, a KFC zinger burger with hash brown, fries and gravy. A big Mac meal with fries and ketchup and an Indian takeaway consisting of lamb Rogan josh, keema rice, lamb samosas, onion bhajis, 2 types of nan bread and poppadoms.

Obviously i hated every gorgeous mouthful of all of it.

It's probably a good thing I only do this twice a year!

I have to ask, how do you manage to put a seatbelt on a 4 and a half month old? Wouldn't they just wriggle out of it? I don't have kids i have no idea how mobile they are at that age. I mean I know they can walk at nine months, but at half that aren't they at the squirmy, blink and they've rolled off the bed stage?

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 07/08/2023 22:54

Oh, the salami was fine, I'm on a keto diet - it's just that I would have chosen something with a bit of variety and preferably some shrubbery.

I have to ask, how do you manage to put a seatbelt on a 4 and a half month old? Wouldn't they just wriggle out of it?

It's a loop, which fits into the mother's (or perhaps father's) seatbelt and loops round the baby's waist. She could sit up and Mutti helped her sort of toddle about a bit, to chew the magazines etc.
