Sir Ed said: "The truth is, Mary, the vast majority of people whose biological sex is a woman when they were birthed - they feel they're women. "They feel they're gendered the same as at birth but there is a very small number of people who don't feel like that, and the law has recognised them for over 20 years now."
He added: "There's a small number of people who, actually, they have a tough time. They're harassed, they're discriminated against; real, serious mental health issues, and I think we need to debate this...with a bit more maturity and a bit more compassion."
Pressed further by LBC's Nick Ferrari on whether women can in fact have a penis, Sir Ed responded: "Quite clearly."

Well, they're owning the ridiculousness of it.

The next question is: what makes someone a woman, if not biology?

A love of pink clothes and make-up? Giggling lots? An inability to park? A passion for cooking? A talent for dealing with toddlers?

What policies will the LibDems have to help women in a way that doesn't discriminate against women with penises?

Crapatoa · 23/05/2023 16:52

"Debate it with more maturity and compassion."
Excuse me while I go and bash my head repeatedly on a brick wall.

dropthevipers · 23/05/2023 16:52

same as Keir "saying only women have cervixes should not be said" Starmer then. Can someone explain to me what difference there would be between that and going on national broadcast shows wearing a tin foil hat saying "I'm completely fucking mental, me"?

MagicSpring · 23/05/2023 16:55

"There's a small number of people who, actually, they have a tough time. They're harassed, they're discriminated against; real, serious mental health issues, and I think we need to debate this...with a bit more maturity and a bit more compassion."

Dear Ed,
There is also a very, very much larger number of people who have a tough time because they are female. They are harassed and discriminated against and they do NOT have the option of identifying out of that. Could you kindly debate that with some of your maturity and compassion?

Because 'women may or may not have a penis, and please pretend you haven't noticed' is a really childish way of doing this sort of discussion.

MagpiePi · 23/05/2023 16:56

Any talk of women having a penis always puts me in mind of Loretta Bobbit.

Does ‘I think we need to debate this...with a bit more maturity and a bit more compassion." actually mean ‘You’ve been told a million times that TWAW, so just STFU and accept it.’

Chrysanthemum5 · 23/05/2023 16:57

Good to know. Where can I claim my free penis? and all the privilege that having a penis entails

ILoveToSquanderPromise · 23/05/2023 16:57

Clearly?

Clearly not.

SunnyEgg · 23/05/2023 16:58

At least he’s letting it all hang out.

Answer away and we can know how bizarre it is. ‘Clearly a woman can have a penis’

Even the most loyal posters will find that hard to obfuscate

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 23/05/2023 17:01

Has his wife got one?

MMBaranova · 23/05/2023 17:03

He has ‘quite clearly’ thought about this and isn’t just accepting an off the shelf mindset. That worries me.

Interestingly he uses ‘birthed’. That’s aligned with ‘assigned’. I would prefer ‘conceived’.

This ‘vast majority… feel they’re women’ puzzles me. I don’t pretend to speak for others, but I do KNOW something, and it isn’t a feeling.

This is sad. He seems to be coming from a place of compassion for ‘a small number of people’, but in doing so stereotypes, others and opens the doors to discrimination against half of humanity. If I used glibspeak, I’d suggest that he educated himself. Regrettably he probably has.

Crapatoa · 23/05/2023 17:03

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 23/05/2023 17:01

Has his wife got one?

Yes. It's called Ed.

KohlaParasaurus · 23/05/2023 17:04

He's a misogynistic little turd and I hope his party ends up being nothing more than a line or two of text in the history books.

PriOn1 · 23/05/2023 17:04

Another lying man.

If he had a modicum of honesty, he would state what he actually believes, which is that some men have such a hard time that he thinks they should get what they want.

He knows perfectly well that they are not women.

Sick of these liars.

100%

Because some males want to use women's spaces, women's rights and protections that hve been so painstakingly and slowly established over the past 100 years must all be chucked in the bin.

No-one is born a woman...you have to be a girl who gets to adulthood. No penis required, what a grotesque fool he is. He also once said there was nowhere that biological men should be barred from going!

Siarli · 23/05/2023 17:10

Ha, ha Chrysanthemum5, Are they available, penises? Nope, I didn't get one when they were giving them out...and oh how some people want one! Can't see what all the fuss is about. We are what we are and who we are and none of this cutting bits out, sticking bits on, taking a load of tablets to sprout hairs or clear them away, raise or lower the voice..and then years on realising they have a ruined body when you cannot change sex..its a wish you cannot have only a desire that can't be met...and only women can become Mums..period!!!

Skyellaskerry · 23/05/2023 17:10

All this talk of a possible lib lab coalition …the Tories must be rejoicing with these utterances. Surely the factual reply is that women do not have penises, but most transwomen keep theirs.

Tupperwaregoddess · 23/05/2023 17:10

I assume Sir Ed wouldn’t dream of going into a ladies loos. Let’s imagine that he suddenly discovers he has a long lost identical twin Bill- who now identifies as a woman called Beryl. He’s saying that ‘she’ should be allowed in the ladies loos, play in woman’s sport etc. What I can’t get my head around is the fundamental difference between Sir Ed and Beryl.

People with gender issues should be treated fairly and certainly not harassed. but I really struggle to understand how it’s fair to women to have male born players on women’s rugby teams for example.

Badgeringabout · 23/05/2023 17:11

And the idiot Lib Dems will make up our govt if Labour cannot get in on a majority.

Skyellaskerry · 23/05/2023 17:12

@Badgeringabout and Labour thinks no one is really bothered about the issue, more fool them.

RavingStone · 23/05/2023 17:14

Basically shut up women!

Obviously, the harassment discrimination and serious mental health issues women face for being women are actually not a problem at all! Because, if we didn't like this happening, we'd identify as men, right?

ArabeIIaScott · 23/05/2023 17:14

Badgeringabout · 23/05/2023 17:11

Genuinely a frightening thought. Never thought I'd see the day I'd say that, either.

Most publicity he’s had for a while

is all publicity really good publicity? I’m not sure in this case, he’s more of a marked man

It really makes me laugh how they all sound so confident and virtuous about their ideology until simple questions trip them up and it’s like you can see the cogs turning as they try and remember the logic they’ve signed up for and have to spit out the agreed words anyway, even though it makes no sense at all. The i congruence between their confident words and the body language is quite a joy. The

All good fun these days I feel

Skyellaskerry · 23/05/2023 17:12

@Badgeringabout and Labour thinks no one is really bothered about the issue, more fool them.

They are pretty much the same as the Lib Dems just hoping people won’t ask or talk about it.

I’m glad Ed Davey answered at least people can’t deny it. Keir Starmer needs the same question.

Batiqueattic · 23/05/2023 17:18

Dickhead. He's one. A woman doesn't have one.
