JKR and new HP HBO tie up

So JKR is going to be executive producer for the multi-million 10 year Harry Potter franchise on HBO. There is no way a company would risk huge amounts of money if there was a significant chance of people boycotting the films due to JKR's pro women's views.

Also her views are so well known that any new actors taking parts presumably cannot suddenly start criticising her after making lucrative careers for themselves after starring in the films!

In all seriousness though, I'll just be glad not to see the original kids faces plastered all over the HP merchandise.

Pearfacebananapoop · 14/04/2023 23:21

Well Laurence Fox is a big JKR supporter 🤣

Amanda Abbington as Tonks?

I think she's too old for Tonks - Tonks is young. She could be a good Reeter Skeeter or Molly Weasley though.

Animalsoffartingwood · 14/04/2023 23:32

Yes, timeline wise she checks out.
Minerva has that Stark bearing too!

Animalsoffartingwood · 14/04/2023 23:35

Tonks: Maisie Williams?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 14/04/2023 23:38

Adam Driver would work well as snape.

I think the 10 year run will be an issue for some of the casting. If they went for Patrick Stewart for example, he's already 82, and whilst still able now, would he still be in his 90's?

Anyone else worried for the actors who sign up and the inevitable TRA wrath and cancelling they will be subjected to?

No, I don't think with something that will likely be massively popular globally they will be cancelled and the guarantee of 10 years pay and exposure will help.

Anna Maxwell Martin for Molly Weasley though would be a bit of a departure from her Motherland role!

I was pondering whether she could be McGonagall! Probably too young.

Shaun Evans would be perfect as Lupin

musicalfrog · 14/04/2023 23:40

Claire Foy as Rita.

Fair point. She has amazing skin so I always think she's younger!

Douglas Henshall as Dumbledore.

He's posted on twitter how drag queens are soo good for kids so he doesn't get my vote.

I did not know this. Sigh.

Jessica Raine as Aunt Petunia. I thought she was too young but the internet tells me she's 40 so maybe not.

Animalsoffartingwood · 14/04/2023 23:55

Aunt Petunia is Lily's younger sister so an actress in her early thirties would be closer to the source (sorry, I'm so nerdy!)

BlueAndGreen89 · 14/04/2023 23:58

The amount of whinging online about this new tv series - people saying they’re going to boycott it and if you don’t also boycott it you’re a bigot - are actually helping to publicise it.

I’m really excited to watch it. I’m ready to see a new Harry and a new Hermione. I don’t know who they’ll get to replace Alan Rickman though, his Snape was incredible. Likewise Robbie Coltrane. Huge boots to fill.

Love JK Rowling, I think she’s a very talented writer and a very brave woman.

SpringTimeNow2023 · 14/04/2023 23:59

Hopefully the TRA mob will boycott and the rest of us can just enjoy it. The TRA mob have been given too much airtime.

It's JKR books so pleased she will be involved.

I suppose that over the course of the books she'll go from 30s to 40s though and IMO Raine looks young so could definitely pull off the early years as younger than she is IRL. I think a decade either way is fine, but women or men in their 60s playing characters supposed to be in their twenties, not so much.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/04/2023 00:40

Is it too obvious to have Gwendoline Christie as Madame Maxime?

No, it's beautiful. Gwen Christie with a French accent? Oh my!

44PumpLane · 15/04/2023 07:47

I am so excited for this series......and like others I'm hoping the will keep the all British cast and also hoping that they keep the adults ages true to JKR books.

The point of Harry's parents being so young always felt authentic, why put off till tomorrow getting married, having kids, when you're in the middle of a war.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/04/2023 08:48

I wonder if they’ll use a different cast as they age?

I think she'd be a good Umbridge! Basically channel her Line of Duty role.

That's a great article. Worth a read.

A well balanced article, at long last!
