For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

Mine hasn't shipped yet, so there's at least one more to go on there.

I'm hoping there's a lot more that haven't been processed otherwise it will prove book sales in this country are dire!

Especially in the erzatz poetry section!

Do keep posting stats. It's ridiculously exciting.

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 14:59

Considering For Women Scotland 's tweet has had 14000 views I'm seriously going there are some more sales to be processed!

Even if just the likes all, pleeeeeease, buy a copy that would be amazing!

Hell I'm just glad it's not just me and people I strong arm into buying it.

The amount of times we have wondered about the sales figures on Amazon makes this so much more fascinating!

Ooh, stats are looking good!

And my copy has arrived, a whole 32 hours before promised! I'm going to curl up tonight, when the DC are in bed and DH is out, and enjoy!

An interesting fact about the Oxford comma. In my first year teaching back in the mists of time, my mentor heavily criticised my written Masters assignment, for being ungrammatical. He didn't think they should be used.

I provided him with some references on their use yes, I was a shit stirrer, even then!

Passed with flying colours 😂

Motorina · 03/04/2023 15:25

I am fascinated by the mechanics. It's print on demand, right? So how does it get from the order, to the printers, to in the post and to my door so quickly?

It's all Amazon in-house I presume. They hit print on the file it goes through the machines comes out the other end as a book. pick up book, shove in the envelope shove it on a van.

ding dong

I honestly get the dread every time I go on the dashboard. At least, until people start returning them! It can't go down!

Of course you passed! You are a force of nature!

Mine is arriving tomorrow 😀

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 16:02

This is very reminiscent of checking the petition threads. It's still on 21 orders processed!in

@DerekFaker it's worth the wait! Honest!

Well, I have tried during a lull in the work, but a combination of being in foreign climes and rubbish with the phone has stymied me.

My cousin has bought it, one friend is making promising noises, whilst the other 3 have 2 blue ticks and no reply....

stealthninjamum · 03/04/2023 16:13

I’m fascinated by how it works too. So could Amazon produce an infinite amount?

I ordered one yesterday but it hasn’t been despatched yet.

I also think my dd would love the number one book as she loves all things Norse and poetry, but I will hold off buying it - wouldn’t want to keep you from the number one spot.

Tillytrotter67 · 03/04/2023 16:14

Mine says Dispatching Now, due to arrive on the 5th.

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 16:22

@SinnerBoy you're effort is valiant considering you are working half a world away!

@stealthninjamum I wonder how many printing places they have? Or if they all come from just a couple.

I orders a friends hardback book and paperback version the other week. The paperback was printed off in whichever country you are in. But the hard back had to be printed in Poland.

Apparently the indignation on the orders processed, I have been informed, can take a while to update.

So I'll just imagine I've had eleventybillion orders and they haven't gone on the sheen yet!

@Tillytrotter67 fingers crossed it arrives tomorrow instead!

Still on 21 processed today. But I have just discovered a downloadable excel report. But I'll wait until I've got my laptop on to look at that properly!

I dont even like poetry but I've just ordered mine. Might try to donate it to the school library or LA public library service or send it as a complimentary copy to my MP (based on the excellent doorstep conversation we had this morning).

Villagetoraiseachild · 03/04/2023 16:39

That is a most excellent sales graph!
You'll be going on a book tour next, to top secret locations, natch.

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 16:49

Sigh, I'll just check the dashboard see if any more orders have been processed....

Thank you!
It's got sweary words so the school library might be out.

I'm all for people sending them to their MPs and MSPs though! They are more likely to flick through it than read an email.

I've ordered my copy. Only useful thing I did yesterday with an epic party hangover.

DialSquare · 03/04/2023 17:06

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 17:42
