A Mumsnet thread about a book about a Mumsnet thread “Under the Duvet of Darkness” written by the women of Mumsnet

For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

If women like & support this book, they need to review it & give it a decent rating, because some woman hater has already given it a 1 star review.

This is why we can't have anything nice.

If it has more higher rated reviews to balance out the TRA ones thes more people might try it, which more money raised for For Women Scotland.

Don't forget to leave a good review!

Oh Have they how nice!

Thanks for mentioning this.

I had a message earlier from someone who said the same.

The advice was

The TRAs may try to scupper it with 1 star reviews

The more 4 or 5 star reviews it has, the more it's likely to sell.

Popular books have hundreds (if not thousands) of reviews.

That's why lots of Kindle books have the author in the back basically begging for reviews (they say they are asking if you enjoyed it, it helps other readers, they love the feedback blah blah)

So...

I think Amazon can check reviews to see if they've actually bought the book?

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 18:49

Well Lola hasn't otherwise it would say verified purchase!

Right. No one has to leave a review if they don't want to or click any of the stars, but anyone who has actually bought it, and is happy with it can you at least go and give it a better review than Lola!

Assuming you think it's worth more than one star that is!

As much as I'd love to give it a glowing review Amazon know I'm Boiled and real me so many hands are tied.

Don't let people be put off by lovely Lola!

Hopefully you'll enjoy it more than a person who's not read it. Mainly because I know exactly who currently has a copy they didn't buy.I

Unless @ArcaneWireless mother was really unimpressed and is called Lola!

I'm quite sure I will enjoy it and will definitely leave a 5-star review.

Exactly!

Boiledbeetle · 03/04/2023 19:01

Thankfully the people who will buy this are more astute than to go off a one star review!

Aren't you?

Vebrithien · 03/04/2023 19:03

There is a 5* review waiting for you from me.

Apparently they take a couple of days to go live??

Very low energy review too, they could have put some effort in and really trashed it. I despair, the tras these days, no work ethic. Tut!

I know I mean 2/10 for effort. I'll give them an extra star for the words.

Thankfully I am under no illusions as to mine and the other writers abilities.

We are all fucking amazing!

I left one on a different book of poetry the other week. It went live within a few hours. But did take another day to hit the French site. By which time I'd already done a translation and posted that, and now they both sit there on the French site. Like twins! Ooops!

I should actually go and check and see if they are both still there.

I can see two new 5 star reviews now. They've not updated the stars yet though. Both verified purchases.
