For once we can do a thread about a new book where all the writers are actually on this very board!

Some of you know what I have been up to recently, when I can tear myself away from posting twaddle, gifs and sweary words in bigly letters on here, but for the rest of you…

Over Christmas and New Year after the passing of the GRR (Scotland) Bill a thread was started by TerfranosaurusVagina on the Mumsnet FWR board with a poem about Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually on that thread (and a couple of other threads) over 80 poems were written.

Ramblingnamechanger suggested we do something with them to raise funds to help the women of Scotland and whilst Dodecaheidyin was tempted to write to Poetry Please on Radio 4, and ask them to do an extended special for Hogmanay about our poems, in the end it was decided to make the thread into a book.

After much procrastination by me “Under the Duvet of Darkness: Poems written by angry women for angry women because WOMEN WON’T WHEESHT” went live on Amazon on 31st March

https://amzn.eu/d/98aEnJy

If searching on the site you need to:

Select BOOKS as the department and UNDER THE DUVET OF DARKNESS in the search box.

Currently it doesn’t show up in the main all departments search (I don’t know why or if it will, it takes a while for everything to work properly according to Amazon).

Theres also a QR code below which should take you right there (hopefully the attached works)

MONEY FROM SALES:

In honour of Magdalen Berns, who co-founded the Scottish campaign group For Women Scotland, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to For Women Scotland.*

*Please note that whilst the profit will be donated to For Women Scotland they are not involved, nor are they responsible in any way for the themes, contents or publication of this book.

I will admit it is rather strange seeing it sat with my latest other book purchase. It seems very surreal.

Not as surreal as having a a Twitter account though. That is off the charts mind bending. I exist outside Mumsnet! Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Is Hags good?

Boiledbeetle · 17/04/2023 13:16

@Ritasueandbobtoo9 I'm only a couple of chapters in but had to put it down otherwise I'd have just kept going to the end and I've got things I'm supposed to be doing. But I like what I've read so far, it was hard to make myself stop which i find a good sign!

I meant to stick this on here the other day but I'm not sure if i did or not.

For those of you that have the urge to write a poem or two (up to 5) about women's rights and all that shit if you click on the link below it gives details of another book of poems being put together to be released in the autumn. They are taking submissions until the end of May.

I've resisted looking all day and have just looked...

Finally! It's gone over £700! But now I'm looking at that 283 thinking ooh just 17 more copies to 300.

Goes off to pray to the small stack of UTDOD books that I won't have to add another 17 to them!

Boiledbeetle · 19/04/2023 23:47

Another day another new total and a nice 'frequently bought together' option for me. It's nice to know our book keeps excellent company!

IM TAKIN OFFENCE AT THAT

Boiledbeetle · 20/04/2023 20:45

@howdoesatoastermaketoast

I feel like I willed that one to happen. Admittedly I did buy both books. But not together! I'm assuming someone did actually buy them together!

@RealFeminist how you holding up? Stressful times for you at the moment. I mean if hubby gets sent down you'll have to do your own housework!

@Ourladycheesusedatum you wonderful person!. We are still sitting at 298! They don't count until it's in the envelope on its way. So if they say it's being delivered tomorrow you will count probably some time today!

My sister is visiting this weekend so I'm going to see if she can sort my not showing up in the main search issue or if I'm permanently on the naughty step for swearing in the book!

Also need to sort an error in the blurb on Amazon. Fucking autocorrect!

Ah, itll be next Saturday then. I usually order things through the week and get them delivered all on the same day. Makes my life easier.

Boiledbeetle · 22/04/2023 10:48

Also if anyone feels like leaving a review, preferably a nice one! The link is above

And if anyone fancies tweeting about it as lack of Twitter presence means I personally don't have much Twitter reach my pinned tweet has the link to the book.
