They've set up a gardening page if you look up "Defend Free Speech in Edinburgh"

Wow, unbelievable, thanks for sharing.

Atthecopacobana · 07/03/2023 22:38

I can't find the gardening link though.

WandaWomblesaurus · 07/03/2023 22:45

I'm not sure how to link it - do I put it in a different section?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 07/03/2023 22:47

Good lord.

'Cammy Day, leader of Edinburgh city council, said: “When considering whether any proposed event should go ahead, we’re clear that everyone has the right to freedom of expression — but, equally, that this must be done within the law and in line with relevant public safety requirements. This applies to meeting attendees, council staff, potential protesters, library users and the wider community.'

Astonishing take. Blaming the victims of terrorism for the terrorism.

WandaWomblesaurus · 07/03/2023 22:49

Do I put the gardening link here or will it get shovelled up?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 07/03/2023 22:49

Yeah, it'll get deleted, Wanda. I googled but couldn't find anything, either. If you can find some keywords for people to google that is often the best way.

WandaWomblesaurus · 07/03/2023 22:51

If you type in "Feminist Fundraisers" on Go Fund Me - that's their account and it will show the page

i'm amazed they can't see it.

The police should be dealing with a public order offence. That's what they're for. Women shouldn't be expected to employ a private police force, because they can't do their job!

The insanity over this ideology is never ending

MarchXX · 07/03/2023 23:08

On GoFundMe look for the picture with "Women wont Wheesht". I've donated, it is simple and so important.

EsmaCannonball · 07/03/2023 23:09

It's ridiculous. It would only be a justifiable decision if the public needed to be protected from the attendees. Now transactivists have another way of shutting down free speech and political organising: make it unaffordable by making violent threats.

WandaWomblesaurus · 07/03/2023 23:20

And it doesn't occur to any of the library staff that a group raising concerns about the safeguarding of children is in fact concerned with the safeguarding of children?

Instead they are pandering to bullies who are threatening these parents who want to be able to discuss and ask questions.

Porty library should maybe think about the consequences of what they are doing here. Maybe read some of the books they hold.

Before the transactivists burn them.

I just looked and they've exceeded their target of £600, having raised £630.

HagoftheNorth · 08/03/2023 05:47

I’ve donated even though they’ve reached their target, because I want this group to know that lots of people will support them if they decide to challenge ECC’s decision in court. This is outrageous

ChaToilLeam · 08/03/2023 05:54

Have also donated. The climate around safeguarding in Scotland is nuts at the moment.

Brokendaughter · 08/03/2023 07:02

If you are looking to donate to anyone who is hoping to 'Defend Free Speech in Edinburgh', they still need another tenner.

Women really won't just wheesht.

ohfibonacci · 08/03/2023 07:32

This is outrageous. Donated and shared.

JacquelinePot · 08/03/2023 07:42

This blows my mind. A group want to discuss perfectly legal beliefs in a tax-payer funded space, are threatened by terrorists and they (the victims of said threats) have to self-fund security?! Unfuckingbelievable!

Agree with op, surely that's a police matter? Oh wait, they'll be busy arresting women for saying facts on the Internet.

Rightsraptor · 08/03/2023 08:16

They may well start arresting women for stating facts,@JacquelinePot, if Humza Yousuf's bill is passed (or has it already been?. You know, the one where you can't discuss things Humza doesn't like in your own home.

GrumpyPanda · 08/03/2023 08:21

I wonder if they're charging the local football clubs for security at their matches.

Brefugee · 08/03/2023 08:23

if you go to the fundraising site (clue is in the words there) and search for the name of the city you can find it.

Is that cryptic enough to be allowed to stand?

readsalotgirl63 · 08/03/2023 08:34

I found it and donated.

MoltenLasagne · 08/03/2023 08:47

Well quite!

Brefugee · 08/03/2023 08:49

IIRC football clubs do pay something towards policing for matches (not sure they cover all of it though) and of course they do have their own security/stewards on matchdays.

lanadelgrey · 08/03/2023 08:51

ridiculous state of affairs, but yes football clubs (and organisers of mass events) do pay the police extra.

rioseco · 08/03/2023 08:59

Looks like there's a problem with the site🤬 Usual story...
