Cis vs thabit

Cis is a term that has been imposed on people whose gender is consistent with their birth gender. It's a horrible sounding word and sounds like sissy so it's very inappropriate. Alternatives like birth gender and biological gender are contested and clumsy. So how about using the Arabic word for "consistent" which sounds rather nice: "thabit"?

If I have to have a prefix , I would settle for ‘real’.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/02/2023 14:14

@Velvian - I agree completely. I honestly thought we were finally moving on from the rigid gender stereotypes of the past, but gender ideology seems hell bent on taking us back there.

They think they are being so modern and forward thinking, but it is far more tolerant and forward thinking to say that clothes, hobbies, jobs, colours, toys etc have no intrinsic gender, so people can wear, do and like whatever they want and this has no conflict with their biological sex. Their view is actually very intolerant because it says a man cannot, for example, like pink, skirts and nail polish, and a woman can’t want short hair, wear jeans and work as an engineer.

I know. It's so sad and so disappointing.

DrDinosaur · 22/02/2023 14:18

I am a woman because I have a female body.
I don't have a 'gender', and I certainly don't conform to the load of regressive sexist stereotypes that gender ideologues think are 'consistent' with my sex.
The only words we need are 'men' and 'women'. That includes everybody, including those men and women who want to be or believe they are the opposite sex.

Happylittlechicken · 22/02/2023 14:19

@BernardBlacksMolluscs I’m learning lol. Just waiting for my glitter and pink tulle to arrive so I can be truly ladylike.

HagoftheNorth · 22/02/2023 14:20

Just echoing what pretty much everyone has said - my sex and my gender are not consistent because I don’t believe I gender. I think we all have characteristics, preferences and personalities and believing that they are dictated or limited by sex is surely unacceptably sexist in the modern world. I can’t understand how anybody thinks otherwise

What you got from all this is that no one objects to cis?

They probably haven't read the thread. Or are deluded. Or something!

lunar1 · 22/02/2023 14:24

We have spent long enough having it rammed down our throats that people should be referred to by their chosen names and pronouns.

So women can simply be referred to as women, why are we the only ones who should be forced to adhere to an identity which doesn't fit.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/02/2023 14:27

The OP started the thread with the premis that not one liked 'cis'. Lacking from the posts on the thread are people stating, 'well, actually, I quite like 'cis'' or similar. So, it's a pretty bizarre take imo.

BellaAmorosa · 22/02/2023 14:36

I'm going to try to save you some time and energy, @Baggages.
Don't bother trying to think up another word for "c*s" because it will be equally unacceptable. Because the concept is rejected.

  1. We are women, every single one, and no male or man is. Women and girls, men and boys. That's it. No need to call ourselves natal, biological or anything like that either. The word woman is understood everywhere to mean adult human female. Especially in circles where they try to deny it.
  2. We do not all embody or embrace feminine gender stereotypes and we resist the drive to reify gender at all. We have personalities.
  3. We do not accept that as women we have become the oppressors of the males who have attempted to colonise our language, spaces, sports and services and to erase any connection between our biological superpowers and vulnerabilities on the one hand and our sex on the other hand.

Give it up. Stop trying to make c*s happen.

Yes transwomen are women we are told by TRAs

But women are no longer women but cis women

Hypocritical much?

So the consensus is that in an ideal world we would called women. However not convinced that is an option. Interesting noone objects to cis. Perhaps it might be different on a male forum.

Of course it's an option for women to be called women.Hmm
I think everyone responding implicitly reject 'cis'(and some were explicit).
Please do try asking on a male forum if there's any issue with men just being called men. My guess is some won't know what you even mean by 'cis', and you may get some lectures on chemical isomers.

'Thabit', sounds like something a monk from Yorkshire would wear.

We so need a 'like' button on MN.

nepeta · 22/02/2023 14:57

When trans rights are based on the concept of a gender identity (they don't need to be, actually, and could stand on their own), then it becomes imperative that
a) all people have those identities, not just those who believe in them, and
b) that everyone must therefore have a named identity group they belong to. As 'women' has now become contested territory which some wish to identify into or out of, rather than a biological sex-and-age category, we ALL must
c) relinquish it for the greater good and
d) join the secular religion of gender identities as a type of identity group which just happens now to be the more privileged sub-group in what used to be its own sex group.

To argue against this development is sheer bigotry.

Naunet · 22/02/2023 15:05

What the hell is “biological gender”?! 😂

Im a woman because I was born female, I don’t need a prefix to differentiate me from deluded males who feel entitled to remove our language and reality, thanks.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/02/2023 15:16

What the hell is “biological gender”?!

it’s like biological washing powder but turns your clothes pink and blue

Reddahlias · 22/02/2023 15:25

What? Since when is being called a woman not an option Confused? Please explain...!

Genuinely I'm confused...?!

BellaAmorosa · 22/02/2023 15:42

@Reddahlias
It's an attempt to con us. To make us think that now everyone subscribes to GI ideology and we have to accept it.

Reddahlias · 22/02/2023 15:42

Woman is fine thanks. It's been fine for years... just because a sub group have decided they want to be called women doesn't mean we need to change it. Let the sub group think up their own name. How about trans-women?

Yes!

I think you need to read the responses again. EVERYBODY objects to cis the word and cis the concept. How can you read those responses any other way?

As for your "not convinced [being called women without any qualifying term added] is an option" - pfft! Not only is it an 'option', I'd say it's the default, which is re-establishing itself as we speak.
