Cis vs thabit

Cis is a term that has been imposed on people whose gender is consistent with their birth gender. It's a horrible sounding word and sounds like sissy so it's very inappropriate. Alternatives like birth gender and biological gender are contested and clumsy. So how about using the Arabic word for "consistent" which sounds rather nice: "thabit"?

Woman. Man. Two sexes.

'Gender' is not a real thing.

Happylittlechicken · 21/02/2023 20:57

@VforVienetta yes. I actually identify as chickengender. My pronouns are cluck/cluck/cluckself. Luckily this was assigned at my birth so I’ve managed to be fully affirmed in my identity. I have a lovely little coop and get to eat corn every day.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 21/02/2023 20:58

Woman does just fine

IcakethereforeIam · 21/02/2023 21:00

'Thabit', sounds like something a monk from Yorkshire would wear.

Ummm… there is no such thing as birth gender. Sex is observed and noted. No one can tell if a baby is agender, xenogender, nekogender or a greygender demiboi etc as soon as it’s born, that’s why we stick with the sex which can be observed way before birth.
no such thing as biological gender either. Gender is a bullshit set of stereotypes that is regressive and outdated and therefore irrelevant. So we don’t need any word. Ta though.

Thank you for summing this up so well!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 21/02/2023 21:00

And thabit sounds horrid, a nasty combination of furry pests and old-style carbon tetrachloride cleaning fluid (very very toxic).

AlwaysLatte · 21/02/2023 21:00

You don't have to have 'Cis' imposed on you. Especially since it sounds like a cleaning product. I refuse to recognise it - I'm a woman, born female (I'm OK with men identifying as women too, although not keen on sharing intimate spaces with them like I would with women who were born female).

No need to come up with yet another word!

guinnessguzzler · 21/02/2023 21:01

I quite like swoman and gwoman 😂to differentiate between woman by sex and woman by gender. Reckon it'll catch on.

Greentree1 · 21/02/2023 21:01

Surely it's up to people who change their gender to identify that, if they want to, otherwise we are men and women. Why should people need to 'admit' they haven't changed their gender?

Brefugee · 21/02/2023 21:01

Another one who is fine with woman. The word doesn't need a modifier, except for anyone who isn't a woman, but wants to be one.

guinnessguzzler · 21/02/2023 21:04

Unfortunately whilst sman is ok, gman is a bit tricky to pronounce. Otherwise it's a great system 😂

Of course only swoman and sman would be required for the sexes but the genders would need additional eg grapist.

'Thabit', sounds like something a monk from Yorkshire would wear.

🤣

BlueHeelers · 21/02/2023 21:16

No such term is needed. The descriptors 'male' and 'female,' and 'sex' are all that is needed.

JacquelinePot · 21/02/2023 21:40

Whatever word you come up with will be 1) phobic 2) colonised.

It's not the words, it's the fact we're using them to distinguish ourselves from men.

Don't play their games.

SidewaysOtter · 21/02/2023 21:55

No, ta.

I’m a woman: an adult human biological female. There is no other definition or subset, so “woman” will do me nicely.

UWhatNow · 21/02/2023 21:59

I use men, women and plain ‘trans’. That covers it adequately in most circumstances I find.

DidyouNO · 21/02/2023 22:18

Sorry, there are only men and women. Nothing else. And to satisfy any argument when you're dead and they dig you up they will know you were a woman or a man. Nothing else exists in death other than cold, hard facts.

FemaleAndLearning · 21/02/2023 22:22

No. I don't need a qualifier for the word that describes my sex.

eurochick · 21/02/2023 22:25

No thank you. Woman works just fine.

LulooLemon · 21/02/2023 22:25

I REALLY object to being called cis gender. It's a bloody stupid phrase.

I also correct anyone coming out with 'sex assigned at birth' nonsense.

PriOn1 · 21/02/2023 22:28

I’m not thabit, I’m thrawn and I’m a woman. No cissification required.

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2023 22:28

Women and men, girls and boys. These are the terms that describe our sex and they are sufficient. There's no need for additional terms that are not widely understood. Everyone knows what sex is and everyone knows you can't change sex.

whiteroseredrose · 21/02/2023 22:34

Woman is fine as it is.

It's like coffee and decaffeinated coffee. You do not need to specify the original version, just the altered one.

Pixiedust1234 · 21/02/2023 22:36

I, kindly and respectfully, do say fuck off. Women do not need extra words. However, men pretending to be women (for whatever reasin) do need them. Please make up some for them instead. Ta

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2023 22:49

Nope, I don't want a 'gender' imposed on me, just woman will do.

As the PP said, make up some words for males appropriating ours. (Probably best not to nick them from Arabic though as that's liable to be branded cultural appropriation )
