It's a no holds barred account. This doesn't seem possible even 6 months ago.

Always the ex-males, isn't it.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/01/2023 22:33

still males

unclebuck · 27/01/2023 22:56

The details are laid bare for all to see. It's like a MN accountability thread in the most read newspaper in Britain 😁

Fab-u-luss. I needed sunglasses, the light was blinding 😁

Clymene · 27/01/2023 23:08

💥 about time this was laid out in the mainstream press. I didn't realise there were so many men in women's prisons in Scotland

So why does the DM use female pronouns throughout if this is ‘accountability’?

LizzieSiddal · 27/01/2023 23:13

@noraclavicle So why does the DM use female pronouns throughout if this is ‘accountability’?

I’m sure there’s some media guidance which states they have to use preferred pronouns. This has been in place for years, I’ve never read a newspaper report which didn’t use preferred pronouns.

Plasmodesmata · 27/01/2023 23:13

So the rapist in the pink leggings isn't the only male sex offender in a woman's prison? I thought he was a one-off very rare case and it turns out there are more? That's a surprise, because "there is no evidence that bad men would ever take advantage of our stupid policy" (might have paraphrased that quote a bit).

LizzieSiddal · 27/01/2023 23:15

Thanks for the link @unclebuck. I hope NS is suitably embarrassed, but I won’t hold my breath.

XanaduKira · 27/01/2023 23:16

Agree @LizzieSiddal - it's fucking abhorrent. The whole thing is abhorrent & it's actually unbelievable that we've got to this position. Hopefully this will mean positive change!

ShyDinosaur · 27/01/2023 23:19

I have NC’d to comment on this board.

Yes, there are guidelines with regards to pronouns etc. A number of national and local papers, over the years, seem to get around this by using photos that leave the reader in no doubt with regards to the disparity between the written word and the visual evidence.

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/01/2023 23:23

That a fuckton of deadnaming!

I hope it brings her and all the other callous monsters fucking well DOWN.

I know, we're not that lucky. But I can still hope.

Yes, it’s this IPSO guidance - any publications signed up to IPSO are supposed to follow it.

www.ipso.co.uk/resources-and-guidance/transgender-guidance/

The document needs binning - how can we get the newspapers to challenge it/refuse to use it?

Sex Matters letter writing campaign or something?

It is. And deadnaming should absolutely be allowed in cases like this.

And TRAs should have no issue with deadnaming in cases like this. They should support it. They should be calling out people like this.

But they won’t - they’ll just bang on that it’s cis-males (sorry for using that word, but I need to for clarity re their reasoning) who are the problem.

Nope - the problem is that biology matters. Full stop. Wear whatever you want. Just keep away from women’s safe spaces, job quotas, awards, blah blah blah.

This ^. These guidelines have to be binned or ignored by media outlets. Describing a male rapist with his cock on display as ‘she’ is inaccurate, it’s utterly enraging and it’s laughing in the face of victims of sexual violence. How can anyone in journalism with a sliver of morality allow this?

I read it thinking, oh...so someone drew the short straw and got the Terfs board to read. And realised the article was right there thanks to the posters who search out all the links.

TheClogLady · 28/01/2023 00:47

just saw this on another thread - looks like Janice Turner is taking it on!

The Times is deffo signed up to IPSO, I just double checked.
Presumably Janice’s editor is supporting her stance or changing all the pronouns before signing it off!

Helen Belcher (newly OBE, founder of Trans Media Watch and Trans Actual, one of the activists responsible for creating these IPSO guidelines, Lib Dem Cllr, Ted Talker) has reported Janice before:

pressgazette.co.uk/news/activist-loses-ipso-complaint-against-janice-turner-times-column-about-trans-suicides/

This surely means Janice & The Times are deliberately pushing back against IPSO? They are pretty much daring Belcher to file another complaint.

Not sure if this will work it should be the Janice Turner article

Boiledbeetle · 28/01/2023 00:55

I think they are breaking cover first. The rest will follow shortly. I reckon the Mail is about to take the plunge into he.

SomethingLikeThisNow · 28/01/2023 01:13

What about England and Wales? I thought on another thread there were counted around 6 men in women's prisons.

Thingybob · 28/01/2023 01:25

Why is 36 year old Daniel Eastwood (who identifies as a baby) in a young offenders institution?

The SPS site says Polmont is for young people between 16 and 21

That's also covered in the DM article! I'm in shock that it's all in there! Stars on the % who are convicted if sex crimes too - although I like that figure against the male average. Anyway, good going!

slithytoveisascientist · 28/01/2023 01:32

I am so pleased to see this and fantastically well written article. I hope it's not less effective because it's in the Mail.

SomethingLikeThisNow · 28/01/2023 01:33

aweegc thanks, yes, just finished reading it all. Amazing sunlight, I am dazzled.
