'If you accept that evidence, that she is transitioning, that she is aiming to continue on that path to becoming female gender, that goes a long way to acquitting her of these charges.'

He's remanded to a woman's prison.

Absolute bloody ridiculous travesty.

I'm not usually cynical but he's obviously bloody anticipated being convicted for his heinous crimes.

Now women get to be in prison with a literal male rapist. This precedent has to end.

So if gender confusion can be used as a mitigating factor for a sexual offence in a court of law, why cant we use it as a safeguarding consideration, and exclude men with gender issues from our spaces?

If the 'but I'm transitioning' defence had got him off worked. I don't believe there is anything that would have stopped him changing his mind one the not guilty verdict was in.

Also, imo it evidently was a risky defence. In order for it to work didn't he have to pretty much confess he was a rapist.

It's appalling he's been sent to a women's prison. I hope some good come from this. I hope they take care of the actual female inmates and the female prison guards.

Mentioned on R4 news this evening - something like 'a transgender woman was convicted of a rape she committed when she was a man'.

Well, at least they reported it and I doubt many people doubt 'she' is still a man.

This is the man who committed the rapes when he was a man. Twitter also has photos of him wearing leggings where his male genitals are clearly visible.

I think the use of “acquitting” is what burns my bacon the most here.

Acquittal would mean the bloke didn’t commit the rapes or that his mental state was such he couldn’t morally know it was wrong to rape. Which afaik they’re not arguing.

But in fact the defence lawyer is claiming that the “transition journey” this rapist is supposedly on is a mitigating factor.

Unless the implication is that they’re so mentally ill they’re morally incapable?

Well they didn't acquit. Does that mean the jury don't accept he's transitioning?

And since there are a lot more jurors than tribunal members deciding GRCs, shouldn't that mean he can't get a GRC since he's clearly not in good faith?

Stv didnt even acknowledge it on the 10.30pm news and on the 6.30 news it was " a transgenderwoman commited rape whilst a man" can they actually hear themselves , the segment lasted about 2 mins , then a segment about how trans hate has risen complete with flags ect and tagged onto the end is "oh but racial hate is the most prolific" . They spent more time talking about a low level team winning a football game than a rapist being placed in a womans prison , stv is an snp mouth piece

Haven't RTFT but am reminded of the sad adage that so many females discover they are transgender while going through puberty and so many males discover it while going through the penal process.
