According to this KC.

'[Edward Targowski KC] spoke about Bryson's gender, saying: 'She is transitioning from male to female gender.

'If you accept that evidence, that she is transitioning, that she is aiming to continue on that path to becoming female gender, that goes a long way to acquitting her of these charges.'

It's the job of the defence team to do the best for their client and use whatever arguments (including novel ones) that they can. I don't think anything has been done wrong.

I mean, using any means or argument possible to make sure a rapist is let back into the streets to reoffend is pretty wrong imho.

If it's not a sound argument (like this one) then it's the job of the judge to reject it (which is what happened).

TheCraicDealer · 24/01/2023 13:56

I'm quite glad that that argument was put to the jury and that they were able to see it for the pile of nonsense it is tbh. Hopefully it'll dissuade other predators from thinking transitioning is a get out of jail card or a route to getting a lighter sentence, although suppose we'll have to see where he ends up going and how long for before we can take a view on the latter.

CandlelightGlow · 24/01/2023 13:57

If you are to have a criminal justice system, it does need to be fair and robust and arguments do need to be put across as you can't take a bias stance, of course.

However I am sick to damn death of seeing the same heartbreaking views portrayed in court over and over again. The man is the victim, the woman unreliable.

Even if he did do it he did it because reasons so requires leniency. What the actual hell is going on that we are still in these positions.

NewBootsAndRanty · 24/01/2023 13:59

Look up Karen /Mark Jones/Lawson - first person to be granted a GRC in prison, life sentence for attempted rape quashed for similar reasons. This is not new.

IdidntshagHarry · 24/01/2023 14:01

This
"Hoardasurass · Today 13:45
Guilty on all charges though the BBC just said a woman has been found guilty of raping 2 women"

A casual glance implies a woman has raped 2 women. It should be recorded as a male on female crime no matter what gender he says he feels he is now. His biological given sex should be recorded as male on female violence, rape. This should show up in crimes against women by MEN not by what he thinks he might be now.

IdidntshagHarry · 24/01/2023 14:04

He did afterall use his male penis to rape 2 females, no woman used her penis to rape as it keeps saying. When did biological sex get so lost and this 'I feel like ... become in recording of crimes.... it is wrong, it is distasteful, no woman raped these 2 women, a MAN did it, no matter what he thinks he is or has been since 4 years. He chose to use his male penis to rape women.

Magically their transition made them go from "too dangerous to ever be released", to ..er..being released.

Unless every woman rises up and refuses to vote for any party that supports gender ideology (otherwise known as male sexual rights) this will be our future. Only yesterday Keir Starmer put out some nonsense about needing to treat the subject with respect. Respect be damned. We've had enough. We started out kind and accepting of the odd 'toilet pervert' as my representative in the Welsh Senedd describes the men who want to get into women's facilities. We've watched in horror as male rapists and sex offenders have been placed in women's gaols and the education curriculums have been rewritten in order to encourage nursery children to choose their pronouns.

Go and see your MPs, your MSPs in Scotland and your MSs in Wales. Tell them you won't stand for this. They have to be overwhelmed by thousands of ordinary women saying they won't vote for their party until this is dealt with.

I've not looked closely (and this is mainly a bit of technical pedantry) but I don't think that the point would have got to the jury. It's a question of law, which would have been decided by the judge.

And as a point of law it could be appealed, so that part of the story might not be over.

Signalbox · 24/01/2023 14:19

“A transgender rapist accused of attacking two women before she transition is now 'vulnerable' was 'in no way a predatory male', the court has heard.”

Wtf. When the Scottish Government or whoever else talks about the most “vulnerable” in our society this is who they are talking about. From rapist to most marginalised in 1 easy step.

And of course in this Brave New World that conviction will not bar this person from obtaining a GRC, so once they've served their sentence they'll be accessing all single sex spaces and services where there are women and children. Great eh?

redpomegranate · 24/01/2023 14:35

I'll assume a woman's prison awaits them.

I agree with you @pattihews BUT there are far too many women who won't do this because:

a) they are fully paid up submissive sycophants to this ideology, relishing in the head pats and approvals of the men driving it.

or

b) they don't care because it doesn't affect them/won't affect them and they don't give a flying fuck for the women and children it will and does affect.

Both types are quite content to sell women and children down the river, may there be a special circle in hell awaiting them.

The defence can do what they like. It's the stupidity of the judges in accepting these arguments that enrages me.

Do not rage! As pointed out the judge rejected it - system worked correctly.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/01/2023 14:47

But but but... He committed these crimes (rape) BEFORE he transitioned. So he should go to a men's prison, because he committed a crime only a man can commit. Anything else would be illogical, surely?

AutumnCrow · 24/01/2023 14:53

redpomegranate · 24/01/2023 14:35

I'll assume a woman's prison awaits them.

If it does, it will be (finally) in the blinding lights of publicity. The photo the Daily Mail used shows quite clearly the presence of male genitals in his tight leggings / troosers (presumably why they chose it). Rapist tackle intact.

ANameChangePresents · 24/01/2023 15:25

In a civilised society, this argument should not be being made by the defence out of utter embarrassment. That they think there is any possibility it could work is the indictment on our society. They should be thinking they'd be better off making the defence that the man was made of bloody cheese.

mumda · 24/01/2023 15:28

This is making an ass of the law. That really needs resolving for sanity's sake.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 24/01/2023 15:35

@redpomegranate according to the daily mail they have been sent to cornton vale womans prison whilst awaiting sentencing

#mansplaining hits a new level.

“You weren’t raped, it’s all in your head.”

Fuck off back to law school Edward.

From the picture she is still packing the weapon it would appear, capable of carrying out a rape.

So unless they can prove she had it removed and stuck back on recently, she was still capable of carrying out a rape.

World's gone mad...

Agreed just look if that isn’t male I don’t know what it. I give up I really do.
