There's an active petition you can sign to this effect, if you're so inclined.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to link to it directly? Anyway, if you enter this thread's title into Google, it should come up.

Those rejection notices (the second of which claimed there were plans to remove gender reassignment as a protected characteristic from the EA) are interesting indeed. I don't think I have ever seen a proposal to remove gender reassignment as a protected characteristic from the EA - has anyone else? (I've seen plenty to repeal the GRA, but since people don't even have to have a GRC to have the PC of GR under the EA, that's a very different thing.)

I wonder whether those who proposed the rejected petition had seen such a proposal somewhere, or just didn't understand the EA well enough to see that the "sex is biological sex" petition is not doing that, or were disingenuously pretending not to understand that in order to get a petition that would attract lots of signatures? Very odd.

I’m going with haven’t got a clue what is in the EA, what government proposals are or what those of us commonly known as “gender critical” are campaigning for or think about anything. This wouldn’t be surprising since even reading or listening to us is enough to get them excommunicated from their in-groups and some may genuinely believe the rhetoric that we spout hateful violence which will send them spiralling into a mental health crisis.

Having said the above I can see a rationale for removing gender identity from the EA and instead making it part of sex discrimination laws that neither men nor women can be prevented from wearing clothing, hair, make up etc which the other sex would normally be permitted to wear in the same circumstances provided it fits correctly and safely. Equally neither sex should be required to dress in a particular way if the other isn’t.

Another bump.

Interesting, given the submission date of both -
Rejected petition
Rejected petition #2

MN please don't delete, these aren't links to petitions, but to rejection messages on the Govt petitions website

Bless, they are so dumb! Both rejected because noone can work out what they are asking!

Well someone finally managed to get a counter petition accepted, won't link here but it can be found by googling 'Commit to not amending the Equality Act's definition of sex'

It would not be amending it, if that suggests subtlety changing the law. It would mean clarifying the existing one.

Yup. 'Please don't remove the ambiguity that allows male humans to crack on with living their best lives harming the half of the population that's female'

What an ambition.

It's so easy to spot the difference between these two movements.

One wants answers that work for everyone and ensure equality of access for all.

The other just wants to harm and exclude females.

It is my understanding that transwomen are protected by gender reassignment and they are protected under sex, but their birth sex not their trans sex?
Can anyone clarify?

DelurkingLawyer · 18/11/2022 00:03

Well the “keep the ambiguity” petition really exposes the ideology for what it is. I thought that the claim was that sex was totally different from gender and nobody on the TRA side wanted to confuse the two. And that it was possible to “reform the GRA” and still protect single sex spaces.

Now we see from the petition not to clarify the distinction between sex and gender that they do not want there to be clarity….because the ambiguity means TW can access SSS.

Lobby groups have been campaigning for years to remove single sex exemptions and occupational requirements - womansplaceuk.org/2018/06/25/references-to-removal-of-single-sex-exemptions/

Re: “Petition parliament to update the Equality Act”

Yes, 35,857 signatures now but mustn’t be complacent.
