Standing for women - Portland rally cancelled over violent threats

ArabellaScott · 26/10/2022 13:59

Not quite sure what's happened - seems there were credible threats to women's lives over these protests.

twitter.com/StandingforXX

Now it seems a few women went ahead and met up and were attacked. (Nobody seriously hurt as far as I can tell)

Hoping everyone is safe and well.

The purpose of the tour seems to be to promote KJK.

To who? Apparently there is no one there, I mean you just said no one is turning up.

I really don’t want to waste (my husband’s) money (I have to account) so please do let me know what it is that you’re doing that I can get behind.

Obvs if all you’re doing is shitposting on MN, fair enough.

antelopevalley · 04/11/2022 14:55

I am sure KJK was expecting more women to turn up. Although some women have turned up, it has been in small numbers.

but which one is it, she is so effective that she's going to ruin feminism, or she is so ineffective that no one is listening so what's the point of her?

do you understand why people think it's personal?

beastlyslumber · 04/11/2022 14:59

Why do you think KJK wants to promote herself? Her entire activism is about defending women's and children's rights. Why would she put herself at risk to do that if she just wanted to promote herself? I don't get it.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/11/2022 15:01

Does the issue of men wanting women to STFU need further highlighting? I'm not convinced.

really?

you’re good with this? You don’t think it needs to be talked about?

heavens

I also wonder if people think there’s no ‘yay me’ element to anything whatsoever that Julie Bindel does for example? Or Ruth Serwotka? Or Karen Ingala Smith?

I’m not criticising them, I think they all do good work. But do we genuinely believe there’s not an ounce of self promotion in a single thing they do?

bolshy people who get shit done tend to have big egos, it’s just a fact of life

Helleofabore · 04/11/2022 15:10

It is like a continuation of the series of threads that I have seen being posted here over the past few weeks. The accusations that never quite hold water when you look closely.

It is like someone read that vile 'sin' page on the Brighton feminist site and then tried to regurgitate it here across the threads.

Ahh, OK. Shit posting on MN it is. Shame that’s all you have.

I’ll remember to scroll past your ‘pearls of wisdom’ Prob not a good idea to signpost the lack of [xxxxxxxx] (decide your own inadequacy) of your argument on MN.

ItsLateHumpty · 04/11/2022 15:21

And they really should be ashamed, it abysmal. If you’ve an argument put it forward, and try and defend it. Don’t hide behind ‘muh interelect’ and then get your arse in your hand because your position is all about the men.

I will always be woman centred because life, and I have my own ¥£€$ so will spend them first on other women who recognise me too.

The purpose of the tour seems to be to promote KJK.

And your purpose on this thread is what?

So far you have dismissed the violence these women have been experiencing. Even when it was pointed out, you tried to deny it. No, you did not even acknowledge April's injuries despite saying that you did. You didn't. You only made some weak comment about spitting.

And you STILL haven't acknowledged that the violence against the women speaking was unacceptable, instead you joined in with the posters who are actively denying it and dismissing it.

You now query why 'proper security' wasn't organised in advance? Yet, when 'proper security' was organised you joined in with 'livvy' suggesting that next time in the UK, the EDL could provide security.

If you think you can do a better job then Kellie Jay Keen, why aren't you doing it?

If you review antelope's posting on this thread alone, it is personal. I don't think that anyone seeing the posts can deny it, but I will interested in seeing that attempt.

antelopevalley · 04/11/2022 13:03

I simply think it is sad that so much money has been spent on events attracting a tiny number of women, when the money could have been used to support local feminist activists who could reach far more women.

I don't believe you. That's just a sad attempt at smearing someone whilst attempting to get up on the moral high ground.

I do think that women being told to STFU needs to be talked about.

My point was that I think we've had that demonstrated time and time again across all platforms, venues and forums. I'm expressing uncertainty that the point needs to be made through women being assaulted and/or being protected by men with guns.

I have no idea what the purpose of the tour is, hence asking on MN.

Helleofabore · 04/11/2022 15:33

Oh... I now see this very clearly.

So it is laughable when I am critical of KJK I get called a Head Girl and privileged, when in reality I could only dream of her privileged lifestyle.

So. When I mentioned that vile Brighton Feminist sin page.... it seems that I was probably right on target from reading your other posts on that 'are you a feminist?' thread.

@antelopevalley your contributions on this particular thread have been very instructive and clarifying.

GrinitchSpinach · 04/11/2022 15:39

antelopevalley · 04/11/2022 12:34

Lots of UK feminist events have security. I am surprised KJK did not organise proper security in advance. There was a lack of advanced planning here.

Although the numbers at events have been very small. There were only 10 women at Los Angeles. And this was before any violence had happened. America does not seem that interested in KJK after all.

"Before any violence happened, eh?"

This took place nearly three years ago:

WoLF harassed, threatened and assaulted in Seattle 2020

A man shoved a woman to the ground. Multiple anti-woman protestors banged and on rocked the speakers' car as they were attempting to leave the event. Hundreds of anti-woman protestors marched and shouted threats at the women who attended.

American women have been well aware of the threat of male violence at these events, since long before Tacoma. The most prominent US women in this fight, like Lierre Keith and Kara Dansky, do this knowing full well that they may lose their lives in the process. Their courage is astounding.

Helleofabore · 04/11/2022 15:39

I do not want KJK anywhere near my activism. And she has called me some pretty vile names.

OK antelope, I get it.

You have allowed your deep dislike, maybe hatred is the right word, maybe not, of Kellie Jay to effectively dismiss the violence that was perpetrated on this very thread.

I will let that sit with you. You can reconcile it however you wish.

Hepwo · 04/11/2022 15:41

The most effective way of informing people of the problems with gender identity is to coax it's participants and supporters out onto the street where they will demonstrate it for you.

This has led to government policy reversals (among more measured committee type equiries) in the UK and will be one of the most effective in the rest of the world.

If you watch committee type enquiries they are generally contained and professional.

Get the actual cohort of people with a gender identity out on the street unrestricted and people can see what behaviour women are resisting having forced on them in private single sex services.

Show not tell.

It's obvious.

Okay, but you can see the confusion, because you're contradicting yourself.

Does the issue of men wanting women to STFU need further highlighting? I'm not convinced.

the US hasn't built up a network of women's organisations in the same way, certainly not those which have influenced policy and prompted investigations into dubious organisations.

It appears the issue doesn't need highlighting anymore, but there aren't any groups who are highlighting it anyway?

The purpose of the tour is to publicise the issue of gender ideology and listen to parents. It's my understanding that parents have asked her to help them because of what's happening to their children.

KJK is trying to raise the issue. She is being threatened with violence for doing so. So she is taking steps to counter that threat.

I'm not contradicting myself.

The issue of women being silenced does need to be talked about. I'm questioning whether this needs to involve women being assaulted or protected by men with guns.

If men want to silence women and threaten death &/or turning up with weapons, what is your solution? Where do women talk about talking without threats?

So your solution is that women change what they want to do to avoid upsetting the men who want to stop them speaking

right you are

you realise this is straight up victim blaming, right?

I'm confused. So women should talk about being silenced but if there is any danger of being silenced they shouldn't talk about it?
