Hospital refuses to operate after woman requests all-female care

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11316141/Hospital-bans-sex-assault-victim-op-female-care-request.html

I feel quite sick at this.

She was stunned then to receive an email from the hospital's chief executive Maxine Estop Green telling her the operation was off.

She told her the hospital 'did not share her beliefs' and she should make alternative arrangements for her surgery.

The message added the hospital was committed to protecting staff from what it described as 'unacceptable distress'.

Emma urged them to reconsider, adding in a further message she thought they had misunderstood her requests, which she said were entirely within the law.

The hospital said it would offer a private room but would NOT facilitate her requests for single-sex care after her operation.

It also mentioned her comment about pronouns and said it had a responsibility to protect staff from 'discrimination and harassment'.

I think organised religion is shit. I think denying religious women healthcare is shit. I managed to type these two thoughts without my brain crumbling.

I also went out and touched some grass earlier- lawn just about dry enough for another mow, so thanks for the advice.

They might need some adjustment to enable them to do so.

Quite. That's what baffles me.

TQ+ Politics: Everyone needs to make massive, massive adjustments to everything for TQ+ people. Change your language, change your services, own clinics and pathways, special exceptions and exemptions to waiting lists, staff specially qualified and knowledgeable

Women: Ok, we see the sense in a lot of that, definitely should be that TQ+ people are accommodated. We need same sex provision to continue alongside as many of us need them for our own equality and accessibility-

TQ+ Politics: NO! No accommodations! Absolutely unreasonable! Fuck your access! Have what you're given or go without care at all!

Let's face it. We are getting a great example right here of 'performative' feminism, aren't we?

From someone who has little empathy except for who they decree worthy of it, which is not women of particular beliefs. Apparently, like some other posters who seem to be very entrenched in 'deserving' women should only be centred, those women of distasteful beliefs should be ignored and their needs dismissed.

It is like those who posted Allison Bailey's tweet as a 'gotcha' for her wrong think. The one that said that she would work for all women, even those whose views she found abhorrent. And some people thought it was proof of her 'alignment' with those women.

Whereas any reasonable person, feminist or not, understands the collective nature of feminism and that feminists work for improving the lives of ALL females.

But I suspect that if you are only performing a superficial version of feminism OR am only on a feminist board to denigrate women who disagree with you, that little nuance would not occur to you.

Or, you are changing the meaning of the word feminist to suit your own desires.

This.

Except for the lawn part.

(I only have a yard filled with pots - defo needs a little tidy up for winter)

This post reminds me of a few years back. I had a lot of friends who were performing feminists. For the longest time they were moaning about how Taylor Swift had all this power but wasn’t using it to “help women” because she wouldn’t disclose her political beliefs or announce that she was feminist.

When Taylor finally caved to the public they then complained that she was a “white feminist” and said her feminism was bad and they didn’t care. They then laughed when she was sexually assaulted and sued the guy for a penny to make a point and they said it didn’t matter because she was a bad feminist.

That always stuck in my mind. When I asked them to explain why she was a white feminist they simply shared one picture of her “friends” saying they were all white. I asked for more reasons than just having some white friends and they changed the subject. This was the same group of friends who emotionally black mailed me into saying I was a feminist when at the time I wasn’t really ready and didn’t feel like I understood what it meant. It’s like they were just recruiting women for the sake of it.

I find it really really weird. They got their way with Taylor Swift but still found a way to make her the bad guy in the end. What the actual fuck?

DaughterofDawn · 25/10/2022 14:21

It was never about women for them in the end. It was just for the clout I guess…

Same.

I'm currently at the beach though, so in my case it was sand.

Racism and performative superiority

It's bully mentality, this kind of twit just needs to find what their particular gang declare as the characteristic that makes you the prey.

For some it's skin colour
For some it's size/disability
For some it's women having rights

Varies according to fashion. Same kind of twit though.

Well said

You can tell when someone simply doesn't have an argument when their posts turn to talking about what posters on this board are like. We could all be horrible harridans, it makes no difference to the position I am putting across.

Play the ball, not the player.

I’m glad that you have identified that the personal abuse I am subjected to here is both vile and uncalled for.

As always, I will accept donations to charities
in lieu of apologies.

Thelnebriati · 26/10/2022 10:23

You're very good at twisting peoples words, I'll give you that.

nilsmousehammer · 26/10/2022 10:24

If you'd care to point out the 'personal abuse' specifically, I will be glad to report it to HQ as against guidelines. All I'd seen was disagreement with you and explanations on why. But we don't do hair shirts and pandering here.

ApocalipstickNow · 26/10/2022 10:33

Lumos is a great charity if anyone fancies it 👍

Wow, I’m not quite sure how you got that from the post you responded to. But thanks for pointing out that I am right about everything and am both the official victim and the official winner of this thread, neener neener. (I know this is what you really meant because I’m a monumental narcissist.)

I don’t accept charitable donations in lieu of apologies but you can PayPal me for my emotional labour, everyone. Cheers!

Helleofabore · 26/10/2022 10:50

MNHQ doesn’t allow abusive posts.

It does allow for pointing out flaws in arguments, prejudices that might underlie points and bad faith posting where posters seem more interested in denigrating women who don’t accept males as females than engaging with the topic of the thread.

We almost need a button for ‘buy that poster a drink!’ for the amount of emotional labour we do here.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/10/2022 11:00

@Helleofabore if we could buy drinks, I'd hate to be your liverGrin

LGBAlliance are another good charity.

Helleofabore · 26/10/2022 11:03

Well, Icake, it would have to be inclusive of ALL drinks of course.
