If we do have an election, I really don't think they'll win

Don't be too sure; they'd certainly lose some seats, but that 80 majority won't be easy to overturn completely - especially when the opposition are hardly appealing either

Recent by elections show you’re wrong. Remind me how big the majorities were in Tiverton and North Shropshire?

RosaGallica · 05/07/2022 19:26

The Labour party have no alternative vision to let-the-rich-get-richer-and-poor-poorer capitalism. The country has completely lost its way now, it doesn't even have the ability to mention alternatives. As such they can only compete with the Tories on faces, like a bloody cosmetic company. And they haven't got one.

Anyone else think the timing is interesting? Prime time on a Monday.

Honestly get the Scottish government to scrap their daft gender bollocks and have them run the entire country. I say that as an English person

Good christ, no. I say that as a Scot.

Oh god no Scotland can have her

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 05/07/2022 19:27

Johnson needs to go. He’s a joke. I hope Rishi doesn’t end up being PM I can’t stand him.

It’s Tuesday. 😂

That was just a protest vote - when it comes to an election it will be blue again.

Mollyollydolly · 05/07/2022 19:28

Just keep everything crossed we don't end up with Penny Mordaunt. She's an outsider but with a lot of support. If we do .. it'll be all over re self id etc. Anyone but Mordant.

AmaryIlis · 05/07/2022 19:28

I wonder whether Conservative candidates seriously have any stomach to go out there on the campaign trial trying to defend the indefensible, day after day after day?

Blossomtoes · 05/07/2022 19:29

Some protest vote.

No chance. Rishi will be held responsible for trashing the economy. He resigned too late.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 19:30

Rishi is a tax evading rich kid. He's no chance.

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 19:31

Poor Rishi got taken out

Zone2NorthLondon · 05/07/2022 19:10

Yes I am serious, I anticipate a snap election and he’ll win
BJ will hammer into the unions and public sector, instigate a hysteria about strikes etc. He was the BBC cowed and a huge right wing media presence

They hadn't counted on Mick Lynch being so popular though 😂.

They hoped he'd be demonised and by god their media friends tried. Unfortunately for them, the eloquent, intelligent, honest and downright likeable Mick Lynch handed them their arses on on a plate.

Yeah, I obviously got overexcited or drunk on popcorn or something! Grin Prime time is right though.

Agree, she would be a disaster for us. Caroline Nokes is another one who would be very bad news so I hope she’s not a contender either.

He might be likeable but even he can’t bring about grid lock by striking.

everyone just logs in to zoom instead now 😀 (usual disclaimer re those who can’t)

mrshoho · 05/07/2022 19:35

I'm betting on his resignation before tomorrow. They've handed him the opportunity to walk away and go on to lap up his perceived successes.

Fair point about Tiverton/North Shropshire, Blossom, but there can be a very big difference between local and general elections

And I don't say this because I want Boris and his rabble to continue, just that I honestly believe it could easily happen

Snoopymcsnoopface · 05/07/2022 19:36

This is encouraging news. Hopefully it's the end of the Dishonourable Boris Johnson.
I today emailed Mr Javid to thank him for everything he started with turning the tide on the erasure of women and our rights and to let him know that I would be proud to have him as our PM.

I sincerely hope the odeous Sunak is long gone, along with BJ, never to taint the Tories again, as he has done over the last several years with his horrendpus management of government funds in a time of crisis just to line his own and his greedy mates pockets, whilst rinsing the public dry.

Don’t count your chickens just yet - I’m ashamed to admit I voted for them last time. I will be voting Lib Dem next time and I’m never voting Tory ever again. I know I’m not the only person who feels this way.

The Tories will have lost the red wall that got them over the line last time and by the time of the next election the cost of living crisis will really have hit home / along with the harsh realities of Brexit.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 19:37

Huge difference between a by-election and the real thing.

I am aware of that being one of the many who can WFH. My point was the government deliberately didn't negotiate with him because they thought the public would be against him when actually he became pretty popular.
