not sure if my you’ve seen this yet - at first I thought it was being misreported because she was introduced as a special guest so I thought the use of “they” was deliberately ambiguous. Got it wrong!

lots of plaudits for j lo today for supporting her daughter. I feel torn about it - I highly doubt j Lo has any clue about any of the topics on this thread etc so is just being a supportive parent, arguably.

I suppose this is all part of a bigger question I have about using pronouns really. I’ve looked at filia’s guidance and legal feminist about this and totally agree with it, but I know there are lots of gender critical feminists who will use someone’s preferred pronouns out of politeness etc.

bit of a ramble - but would love to know where people stand on this issue and if you have refused to use someone’s pronouns when asked how they responded.

Why is it that when I come on threads like this to talk, people are really quite unpleasant. Looking down on people, being rude, etc. I always leave it feeling pretty miserable, and hoping people never view me as being part of that.

I feel like maybe people would listen to (what really is just common sense for the most part) you guys more if you could just try a little kindness 😬

Then again, Jk Rowling was perfectly polite and reasonable and she received death threats for basically speaking scientifically, so who knows! 😔

People cannot change sex, that is a fact

people can choose to present as whatever gender they like, they will still be the sex they were born

“TERFS” (if the term must be used) believe that in certain circumstances eg sport, refuges, rape support services, programmes to bolster Women’s representation that biological sex trumps gender presentation, that is all.

im very bored of hearing tropes like “TERFS don’t believe transgender ppl exist!!!” Obviously they exist, I just don’t believe that however much he wants to be, that a man is a woman

That’s the thing @SuziSecondLaw women spent ages being kind and thinking “maybe if we say it more nicely” they’ll listen but we now know what happened

we were just trampled over by men with loud voices who don’t like hearing no because being men they’re not really used to it

Unfortunately I think this is definitely the problem.

I just mean on these threads!!! When people have questions etc, when people don't know absolutely everything about everything like some of you like to think you do. Sorry, but my god, I clearly can say absolutely nothing right here. There's just no need, I'm not the enemy here 🤦🏻‍♀️

But how do you know if it was the mother or father who provided the sperm? 😜

Well, I have to say that despite not having taken any advanced course in Biology, both of these women knew that sperm was produced by males. They also, despite not having taken any advanced course in Biology, could correctly identify human males.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 21/06/2022 16:50

Yes but.. Why? I hate religion, I'm not going to tell a Christian God doesn't exist. Because it's cruel and unnecessary. You don't have to agree with transgender stuff, but you can still be a decent human and be kind, surely?

How bloody patronising to Christians - they are well aware that lots of people don't believe in God. The Christians I know don't need me to pretend to believe in God and play along with it all in order to validate their own beliefs. And I have had some good discussion with religious people I know about theirs and my own beliefs, which differ a lot. Of course I would tell a Christian that I don't believe in God!

Possibly because you were so rude when you misrepresented the beliefs of women on here?

"I did once meet someone who didn't believe in peanut allergies. Was it like that?" 🤔 No..

I meant I believed along the lines that you can't change biological sex therefore 'transgender' was just a made up kind of nonsense, and I did not recognise their chosen pronouns etc. I was an ignorant twat basically.

Terfs reject transgender people living as their chosen gender, right? That's my understanding of it in a nutshell. To be honest, I never looked too much into it, I was just uneducated about the whole thing and had very uneducated views, basically 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't know how else to explain it to you.

Seriously, You go on and on about being (your words) ignorant and being an (your words) uneducated twat with (your words) uneducated views. That you were an (your words) 'ignorant twat' to have (your words) believed along that lines that you can't change biological sex and therefore transgender was just a made up kind of nonsense

And you call me condescending for suggesting a good solid Biology course! Well, I am glad that you have clarified that you weren't stating you were an (your words) ignorant twat for having believed that you can't change biological sex.

OK 😊 I'm gonna bow out of this thread, life's too short. And it's a beautiful day!

We did not get where we are today with bullshit platitudes. We got here by being honest, speaking up, taking flak and asking questions even when risking our jobs, friendships, careers and safety.

We got here by using critical thinking, cynicism, evidence and research.

Kindness is considering the risks to vulnerable women and children, the risks of rape, assault, PTSD, irreversible and inappropriate medical treatment to children who may not need it, it's not pandering to hurt feelings and pussyfooting around with vapid social niceties. Kindness is fucking hard work and it takes tenacity, courage, honesty, thought, and patience.

There was a time when most people were happy to use whatever pronouns were requested.

That's changed, because the game has changed. Now accepting pronouns means accepting that males should be in women's prisons, women's sports, accepting an extremely sexist ideology, accepting what is very questionable, not only medically but in terms of psychological care, in schools and elewhere, standing back while kids are making decisions that are incredibly unhealthy and naive.

It means accepting bad science and bad philosophy, and not in the sense of, let those people believe what they want, but in the sense of let's build social policy on this basis.
