Apparently Facebook allow this despite apparently not allowing female nipples. I'm so confused!

What are your thoughts on this image?

See now I don’t really have a problem with that.

Transmen have periods. That’s fine. They do.
What annoys me is transwomen who pretend they have periods. You can fuck off with that.

shuggaaaaaar · 01/06/2022 23:35

It's a statement but poorly done. It lacks balance ... I.e women but I suspect that's to make a point...other than that people who trans will and do have periods .. so I guess it's kinda factual and making a point

shuggaaaaaar · 01/06/2022 23:41

Having looked again I see the photo is more complex than I thought.. but ultimately no this doesn't bother me

KittenKong · 01/06/2022 23:50

Well no, I’ve just read a piece about clothing designers who have designer menstrual trousers (gawd-awful baggy monstrosities with red blotches, or fugly vulva patterned dungarees) which are designed genderless because ‘period conversations are not just for women’ and sanitary products just aren’t darned ‘inclusive’ enough.

Why does every-flipping-thing about women NEED to ‘go there’ these days?

I agree that’s much more infuriating but was afraid to say it.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 02/06/2022 00:12

The issue for me is that only some people have periods and how will people know whether they should be having them or not if we can't define who has periods?

HRTQueen · 02/06/2022 00:38

Yet sanitary products show how protective they are by using blue ink 🙄 so not to make anyone uncomfortable

adult female human aka women have periods

Yes bring back the patronising oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaah bodyform advert of the nineties. I’d take that over this any day

Really? I'd take the Bodyform one any day over this miserable looking bunch.

Eh? Yes that’s literally what I said

GoodJanetBadJanet · 02/06/2022 02:27

It's saying that trans men can have periods too.
Which I say fair enough to., as they can.
Not sure what the fact female nipples can't be shown on there has to do with anything though, I agree they should be able to but that's a bit whataboutery

GoodJanetBadJanet · 02/06/2022 02:34

Getting a lot of reports on this thread. There's a surprise.
So, I'm on the tail end of my bleeding years, shall I post a grungy photo of my pants and the grim contents on fb tomorrow and see how long it lasts?
What, WTF - how has your second paragraph got anything to do with the first?!
Where to begin - WTF are you looking at to come across anything like that, I'm '' on the tail end of my bleeding years'' 🙄 (nice) too I just don't get how someone' s head takes them there

Saying it to whom and why?

Who needs to know this who doesn't already know? Apart from possibly the companies who supply disposal bins in toilets.

Do the cubicles in male lavatories have bins? There's an argument that they should even without this. There must be men who suffer from urinary incontinence or inflammatory bowel diseases who need disposal facilities.

Sorry, misread your comment as criticising the Bodyform adverts. I didn't find them patronising. I liked their positivity.

tabbycatstripy · 02/06/2022 06:36

I think it’s both very sad and an example of the internalised hatred of the female.

This is exactly one of the main things it said to me too.

I really don’t think the producers of this ad thought of this with any depth at all.

LaSavoie · 02/06/2022 07:54

I think it’s both very sad and an example of the internalised hatred of the female.

Agreed. It really does highlight society’s fucked up approach to the female body.

#freethenipple was never really about the nipple because they are fine to be displayed on men and transmen but really about the fleshy female part behind the nipple (you know, the part that makes it function) that our culture has decided to sexualise, fetishise and demonise.

And with this cultural shit being projected on breasts, is it any wonder so many girls want to opt out of womanhood?

MsEverywhere · 02/06/2022 07:59

That apparently only very young people get periods, and that there is, apparently, some weird correlation between being young, having tattoos and being a person who gets periods.

fruitbrewhaha · 02/06/2022 09:30

I think they are trying to normalise trans, but really in it's essence trans isn't normal is it. It isn't normal to fell so unhappy with yourself they you have to resort to surgery - whatever shape that takes. Are these transmen any happier now than before? They maybe look like young men but as they age they aren't going to be very convincing men. But maybe that doesn't matter.

Do transman still have periods? I'd have thought they would try to avid them. It's very womanly. Doesn't taking testosterone stop them?

It's interesting that I've not seen photos of women showing their menstrual flow. Is that still off limits?

They like a tattoo, don't they?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/06/2022 09:45

That was the bit that didn't fit for me - where is the dysphoria here?

DrDinosaur · 02/06/2022 10:09

My thoughts are that transmen don’t look much like men.

Beamur · 02/06/2022 10:19

I don't agree that showing menstrual blood breaks any taboos. It's just a body function and not one I want to see to be honest.
Transmen have periods. So what?
It's an image designed to shock and challenge but I find myself just thinking 'meh'

KittenKong · 02/06/2022 10:53

The same people who demanded the female symbol got taken off Always products?

doesn’t really make a lot of sense?

BenCoopersSupportWren · 02/06/2022 10:58

moodybluetit · 01/06/2022 21:46

Where are these posts encouraging breast enlargement?

There are many I've seen where women ask about it and encouraged to do it, posters say how it changed their life, made them so happy etc

Of course they are always doing it 'for themselves' society has had no part in it

I would say people having mastectomies are more likely doing it for themselves than the people having stuff put in their breasts to enlarge them

I highly doubt you’ve seen those posts on FWR, but please do link to them if I’m wrong.

Humbold · 02/06/2022 11:03

Bit of a stream of consciousness but my thoughts are:

i think I stopped wearing white knickers at the age of 14 when my periods started. Don’t possess a pair even now.

They need to get those in the wash pretty quickly.

So these females DO wear white knickers/pants/boxers/Y-Fronts and stain them with mock blood (unless they’ve all hung out together for a long time and their periods have synced up like they often do with females) in order to SHOW us that they bleed, yet they’re not women - but they are because they’re having periods.

They are doing this because I think they think we might be shocked by this fact. That women bleed, even women who adopt masculine stances and body language - LOOK AT THOSE SCOWLS!

My other thoughts are - what they’re saving on haircuts, they’re spending on tattoos - how much money does it cost to have voluntary double mastectomies and gazillions of massive tattoos??

And it also made made me think about Judy Chicago’s menstrual artworks in the 70s and why are things so fucked up in Intersectional Feminism today.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 02/06/2022 15:12
  1. That's felt tip pen
  2. If people have periods why isn't there a single female identifying person there?
