Apparently Facebook allow this despite apparently not allowing female nipples. I'm so confused!

What are your thoughts on this image?

It looks like misogyny to me

This is ALWAYS about misogyny.

RadiantFem · 01/06/2022 22:43

Also ironic to note that in another currently trending post on mn the OP was apparently told by her partner that presenting a photo of her stained sanitary towel to her GP to help illustrate her concerns around heavy blood loss and clotting was “inappropriate”

MiniatureHotdog · 01/06/2022 22:44

Ahhh and good day to you darlings! Mother nature here, just your monthly reminder that despite your very best efforts you are in fact still female! Have a great week now won't you 🤗

This sums it up perfectly. Females have periods.

Don't be so ignorant and "non-woke", it doesn't make you
cool, it makes you rude.

Oh well, we wouldn't want to be rude. Hmm

As the fabulous Magdalen Burns said: “I’d rather be rude than a fucking liar”.

oldwhyno · 01/06/2022 22:47

My thoughts start with sadness but end up with anger.

Staffy1 · 01/06/2022 22:47

What’s the point of it? An advert for sanitary products? If so, not a very good one for a few reasons. If not, what?

Crocsandshocks · 01/06/2022 22:51

Feels like you can only show female signifiers on Facebook like periods and nipples if you degender them. Mysogony indeed.

someone earlier said it’s a load of bollocks. I had a really good reply to that but I can’t post it.

To edumacate us. Who knew that females have periods and that transmen are still female?

JellySaurus · 01/06/2022 22:59

Yes, it rather emphasises that. Probably not the message the advertisers were trying to give.

As someone in survivorship following extensive treatment for breast cancer, which included two surgical procedures, I find the mastectomy scars really upsetting.

I was thrown into early menopause due to the chemo, so my periods as a biological female ceased - I suspect the hormones these transmen will likely be taking will stop their periods too eventually?

So I have loss of my natural breasts and loss of fertility in common with these people but for much different reasons. We all remain biological women though.

I find the image really hard to look at, and can't comprehend why doing what happened to me as a result of a life threatening disease to healthy bodies is celebrated, and espoused to young teens so casually.

I have no words for you, only an insufficient unmumsnetty hug. It's fucking shit.

JellySaurus · 01/06/2022 23:00

Lost the quote:

cherrybonbons · 01/06/2022 23:01

Hardly diverse is it

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 01/06/2022 23:06

Get a Mirena, like a real man. Problem solved.

ElenaSt · 01/06/2022 23:13

I got a thirty ban for SHARING that vile image yet the original poster had no recriminations!

RadiantFem · 01/06/2022 23:16

The more I look at the image the more problematic it becomes, the people in the photo who apparently have breasts are wearing t shirts. The people who’ve had mastectomies aren’t. So breasts are shameful and should be hidden unless surgically removed but blood stained pants legs akimbo is fine. Also the melancholic faces as if they are expressing some sort of ritual humiliation at this most “shameful” and unfortunate biological function with a strange mix of in your face pride “look at me” but it’s a mind bender because they can’t be that proud to be menstruating if the majority have had mastectomies can they? Or can they? Genuinely think it’s all on purpose misogyny tbh

catandcoffee · 01/06/2022 23:18

I say never wear white knickers on a period.🙄

pinklavendar · 01/06/2022 23:19

They are all women, despite outward appearance, is what I think.

Def lacks the joy of a rollerskating sani towel advert!

Alcemeg · 01/06/2022 23:23

I just don't see why anyone would want to shove their menstrual fluid (even fake) in other people's faces.

Isaidnoalready · 01/06/2022 23:24

Crocsandshocks · 01/06/2022 21:33

Facebook
can't show breasts unfortunately for you, and
they have shown this picture because these
people don't have breasts, they had
mastectomies.

So wouod a woman with a mastectomy be allowed to show her exposed breast. I doubt it. Could menstruating women show their bloody pants? I don't think so. But on a transperson they can. Double standard

No women who have had mastectomys are regularly banned

Alcemeg · 01/06/2022 23:24

It makes as much sense as doing an ad that says "Women do plops."

(I'll leave you to conjure up the imagery for that one.)

RadiantFem · 01/06/2022 23:28

Yes bring back the patronising oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaah bodyform advert of the nineties. I’d take that over this any day

Whatthechicken · 01/06/2022 23:29

Medical malpractice

Voice0fReason · 01/06/2022 23:31

Women continue to have periods, even when they've had double mastectomies and tried to escape the reality of being female.
