"It's an actual fact that not just women experience periods"

So this is the latest campaign from cosmetics company Benefit...

I have a lot of questions. Firstly, why on earth a cosmetics company are not only jumping on the current trend of "let's somehow get menstruation into our ethos even though it's not related to our company, just so the women think we totally get them" but why they are jumping on it and taking such a stupid, exclusionary and ridiculous view point. Baffled doesn't begin to cover it.

Secondly, how can anyone other than a woman have a period? Answers on a postcard...

I hope to god they're thinking transmen...

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 27/04/2022 08:00

yeah, it's a quote from a woman who identifies as a man

who presumably wouldn't touch their products as they wouldn't work at all with the sexist stereotypes that individual has chosen to live their life by

bat shit

picklemewalnuts · 27/04/2022 08:00

It's an actual fact that if you decide words have no meanings then a cat can be an astronaut.

And a zebra can eat meat.

And my dog can be in charge. Oh, wait...

Chersfrozenface · 27/04/2022 08:02

Though TMANM and, sex being binary, they must therefore be women, biologically speaking.

You know, what with periods involving shedding the lining of the womb and only female humans having wombs.

Rightsraptor · 27/04/2022 08:02

They do seem to be thinking transman. The one in question is Kenny Ethan Jones.

There was a Kenny Jones on the disastrous C4 'Genderquake' 4 years ago, aka 'The Caitlyn Jenner Show'. I imagine it's one and the same KJ. Caused some confusion as there's a male musician called Kenny Jones.

Quite, what has this got to do with Benefit's market? Virtue signalling. Not bought any of their products for some time but definitely won't ever again.

LongBlobson · 27/04/2022 08:03

They're right.

Girls experience periods too.

Women and girls.

MintyMoocow · 27/04/2022 08:06

I’m a woman and I no longer experience periods?

Clymene · 27/04/2022 08:08

I've just looked at Kenny's Instagram. Doing a public service announcement telling trans men that they need to have cervical smears because Kenny didn't know they were necessary until they had a conversation with their sister.

The fact that the NHS record people by gender rather than sex is one of the most wrong-headed idiotic things that trans activists demanded and actively damages trans people's health.

And no, I don't think Kenny uses benefit cosmetics and benefit don't make period products so k really don't see the point of this tie in other than virtue signalling and brainwashing.

Helleofabore · 27/04/2022 08:13

I am sure it is virtue signaling all the ‘right thoughts’. And let’s not forget about the female NB’s who would still be in their market.

However, I also know a socially transitioned teenage female, a transboy, who wears more make up, and dresses much more femininely that I ever did or do. (Ie. Dresses pretty much like their friends do)

Because, they are expanding the bandwidth of how males dress, or so I gather….

(I think it is a great thing to expand ‘bandwidths’ of how the sexes present by the way. I think it is offensive that people declaring themselves as the opposite sex believe they have any right to declare they are expanding the bandwidth of the sex they have declared themselves though.)

Itsbackagain · 27/04/2022 08:13

MintyMoocow · 27/04/2022 08:06

I’m a woman and I no longer experience periods?

As am I however no male in the world has ever had the physical ability at any time to have a period.

Pawtucketbrew · 27/04/2022 08:18

MintyMoocow · 27/04/2022 08:06

I’m a woman and I no longer experience periods?

Not all women have periods but ONLY women can have periods

Somanysocks · 27/04/2022 08:26

Well they're talking bollocks ain't they?
(That's all I have to say).

Foolsrule · 27/04/2022 08:29

Well, they’ve just lost a customer in me!

hihellohihello · 27/04/2022 08:31

Erm it's partly about forcing a language change. But it renders the definition of the sexes meaningless - if they become genders, that is, because then they don't really define anything concrete and physical.

Shortpoet · 27/04/2022 08:32

Another reason to avoid being pounced on by them in Boots (apart from the high pressure sales techniques).

Helleofabore · 27/04/2022 08:32

It also probably ties in with stuff like this puberty guide from NPR.

LoudingVoice · 27/04/2022 08:37

It’s very heartening reading the comments though, people aren’t putting up with this nonsense anymore, lots of people questioning it & unfollowing 😊

lunar1 · 27/04/2022 08:38

So bloody dangerous apart from anything else. Organisations have a responsibility to provide factual information to their audience.

If anybody who is biologically male starts bleeding from their genital area they need to see a doctor asap. Not discover online that it might be their fucking period.

Presenting this rubbish as fact to people with varying levels of education and understanding of propaganda is incredibly irresponsible.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 27/04/2022 09:05

It's this absolute inability in so many of the trans community to accept not only biological facts but why they are so important!

You identify as a man, OK... I hope you have a comfortable life and can live your life the way you want to and that it's a happy long life! But, you were born a woman and biologically remain a woman. You can't erase it. If Kenny had come out and said I'm a man, I live my life as a man, but biologically I have a female anatomy and this is why it's important to talk about periods or smear tests etc etc... wouldn't that have been great? For literally everyone on both sides? But no... let's start a campaign to let all of us backwards idiots know that actually, men menstruate now so 💅

When a person's rhetorical position is precarious, they tend to use more words to press their (erroneous) point home.

"Actual fact" is tautological bollocks, but of course in their eyes "more words = greater authority".

But the truth of the matter is hidden in the sentence. So,

"It's an actual fact that not just women experience periods", can become

"It's a fact that not just women experience periods", which can then become

"Not just women experience periods", which is then, of course,

"Women experience periods".

Ah, simplicity is so much better and clearer.

Spot on, Clymene.

tabbycatstripy · 27/04/2022 11:05

Shame. I liked their stuff.

Cosmetics companies are the worst for this because gender non-conformity expands their markets (which is fine - men can wear make-up if they want). I just wish they wouldn't talk such rubbish as well.

DadJoke · 27/04/2022 11:23

Some trans men and non-binary people menstruate. That's the biological fact. Why would you get angry about that?

This is what they said:

"Women, transgender men and non-binary people all menstruate. It's not only women that will experience periods, however, we're led to believe that it is just cis women who menstruate.

"In the latest episode of The Benefit Broadcast: The Conceal or Reveal Edition @kennyethanjones discusses his experiences and the struggles he faces as a transgender man. @corytontwins talks everything from growing up with periods to period poverty - so let’s get educated!"

Because transmen and female non-binary people are still women. So yes, only women (and girls) have periods.

You can call yourself whatever you like, but you can't identify your way out of your own biology. Quite honestly if you could I'd be tempted to give it a try!

SapphosRock · 27/04/2022 11:38

A great example of how to alienate women who are Benefit's main customers 🙈 how silly.

I don't know why they haven't focussed on trans women instead of trans men, they are much more likely to buy Benefit makeup.
