  • haven't had a chance to keep an eye on his tribunal, but from what I'm reading:

'Dr Michael Webberley applied for voluntary erasure from the GMC register. The Tribunal say it is "unfortunate" that was not determined prior to the hearing today.

MW had two requests for postponement declined & has now provided new medical evidence for an adjournment'

I wonder if this means his application for voluntary erasure will be seen for what it is, by the panel?

That application has already been rejected. On Friday they'll be deciding on the adjournment he's requested.

We now know MW's erasure application was rejected. The tribunal reconvenes to decide on the adjournment request, case management & timing of witnesses.

So this is @StoatlyL signing off until Friday 19 March for @tribunaltweets2 in Manchester.

Would there have been any news today? (Fri 18th!)

DomesticatedZombie · 18/03/2022 20:18

Ah, no news on the Twitter - sorry, Prelate, that's my source of info!

@MiladyBerserko

Ooooooo!
Yeah indeed and Ooooooo a bit more. I've been busy on maya threads and haven't had time to look elsewhere, but this is very interesting
Voice0fReason · 18/03/2022 22:24

How very interesting. This is another one to watch.

Just to confirm there's no update on the MPTS site (I looked).

Placemarking in the hope of further news about this.

OldCrone · 20/03/2022 09:44

Related to this - Helen Webberley's tribunal continues on 4th April

Also related, on this thread a poster mentioned that It's quite scary the number of private prescriptions I've seen from Romania for puberty blockers.

It may only be a coincidence that GenderGP now employ a Romanian doctor to prescribe puberty blockers.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 22/03/2022 05:45

Hearing on 21st. Webberley is not attending.

The Chair is discussing the adjournment request and has determined the case should NOT [be] adjourned and will proceed. Written reasons will be proved for the decision and available to the public.

Thank you!

Imnotavetbut · 25/03/2022 17:40

I'm just catching up on this one after Maya's this week. It looks like he's unrepresented and it's going ahead next week. It definitely won't be Ben Cooper (alas) but it looks to be very interesting.

DomesticatedZombie · 25/03/2022 20:35

Thanks, notavet.

I'll be dipping in and out of this today. More on the murky world of Gender GP. MW is not in attendance and they've gone straight in on the usual allegations: prescribing without seeing patients, poor record keeping, failure to respond to lab results and failure to review. There seems to be a lot around the prescription of testosterone for men that he's diagnosed with hypergonadism and that he was prescribing it at very high quantities - the amount usually seen used by body builders. I'm sure it'll all become clearer as it progresses but it's all very strange at the moment.

Imnotavetbut · 28/03/2022 14:06

*hypogonadism, apologies, multitasking.

Moved on to the treatment of 'trans kids' now. All allegations look very similar to that of HW from what I can tell. I'm guessing the tribunal may not go on as long if MW is not attending.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 14:08

I think I read 10 weeks?!

Running til the 1st of June, it says here. I don't know if that means it will definitely run all of that time?

For info:

'Allegation

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, between April 2017 and June 2019, Dr Webberley failed to provide good clinical care to 25 patients. It is alleged that Dr Webberley’s failings related variously to consultation, history taking, examination, diagnosis, prescribing, communication, follow up, informed consent, assessment, working with colleagues, working within the limits of his expertise and working within guidance. It is also alleged that a number of patient consent forms contained information that was untrue and that Dr Webberley’s actions were dishonest.

It is further alleged that until 2019, alongside Dr A, Dr Webberley operated and controlled the company known as Gender GP, which was set up in such a way as to avoid the regulatory framework of the UK. It is alleged that in November 2018, Dr A was made subject to an interim order of suspension meaning that there were no practising GPs working for Gender GP. It is alleged that following this Dr Webberley retained the name of his company as Gender GP and that his conduct was dishonest.'

Yes, it was until June I think but seeing as he has no representation and he's not present I can't see how it'll go on that long. The GMC obviously won't be able to question him and I'm presuming that anyone he had lined up to provide evidence in his favour now won't attend? He clearly wanted the voluntary erasure but didn't get it and now it seems like he's thrown in the towel. Striking difference between him and HW, she's clinging on for dear life. GMC are simply going through the charges atm, it doesn't appear that there will be anything surprising but I'm very confused by the testosterone prescribing, that seems to be a separate matter to the treatment of children.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 28/03/2022 14:37

Does anyone know why he isn't attending? It seems very odd to me, but then my only (very limited) knowledge of similar scenarios is based on the Adrian Harrop proceedings.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 28/03/2022 14:47

I really hope this tribunal gets to the bottom of what happened, and, if there was wrong-doing, how it was allowed to happen, particularly regarding any under-18s a.k.a. children.

Fenlandia · 28/03/2022 15:38

Still boggles me that such young kids are getting caught up in this. A 9-year old FFS! The details are jaw-dropping: twitter.com/tribunaltweets2/status/1508446296239136779

tabbycatstripy · 28/03/2022 15:41

Am I right that he prescribed testosterone to a 9 year old?

Changechangychange · 28/03/2022 15:47

@Melroses

I did see this and wondered the significance.

Is it like retiring before a disciplinary?

Basically, yes. Removing yourself from the register before you can be struck off.

Might be ok if you are making inadvertent mistakes due to poor mental health/old age/something else outside of your control, and put your hands up and say you can’t practice safely any more.

Definitely not ok for allegations of dishonesty.

That Twitter thread is honestly mind blowingly bad. If even half of that is true, MW should honestly face prison time.
