I think there is so much to worry about with Ukraine, I wasn't expecting this statement from MI6 about freedoms.... I think a whole society is at risk yet there is more pontificate and point scoring which suggest a 'wall influence.

Completely tone deaf

I am sick to death of being told how to react to things. You constructively debate til the cows come home, Hawkins, you embrace pseudo-religious mantras that give you a warm, fuzzy, inclusive feeling deep in your parts. You have NO RIGHT to tell me what to feel, think, or say and your belief that you do is horribly revealing of the entitled, privileged ideology that you are shilling for.
And that goes for you, Robin, too.

WonderfulYou · 27/02/2022 11:56

I have heard awful stories of how gay people are treated in places like Russia and I would appreciate him bringing awareness to this at any other time but its definitely not the right time and it’s a very low blow.

The wording also sounds almost smug - like look at us not fighting for our lives simply because we’re not homophobic.

Goatsaregreat · 27/02/2022 11:59

I'm still Shock that Hawkins decided he's the one to monitor and police threads on here. Such typical male entitlement.

BrambleAndBees · 27/02/2022 12:00

@Lovelyricepudding

I have often wondered if Russia was supporting/backing the LBGTQ+ behemoth in order to undermine western societies. When, in the face of an aggressive military invasion right on our doorstep, the head of MI6 posts tweets like this it suggests Putin was successful.
Absolutely!
DomesticatedZombie · 27/02/2022 12:01

You would generally hope M16 had a deeper grasp of international socio political trends really.

Just the latest in a long line of visitors to drop by and tell us we're performing womanhood wrong.

@RobinMoiraWhite

I feel sad for those who plainly feel threatened by embracing diversity. I can only think that a life in increasingly small boxes awaits you.
It’s funny but we’re not the ones climbing into and out of increasingly small boxes, quite the reverse.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/02/2022 12:18

Yes, I agree.

DomesticatedZombie · 27/02/2022 12:22

My diversity says you don't need surgery to be a woman, women can look feel and act any which way. And no surgery can change one's sex. To imagine it can is nothing to do with diversity, anymore than believing the world is flat is accepting a diversity of truths.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 27/02/2022 12:24

I'm grasping for something here. When other people judge how others in a space should behave and abrogate to themselves the right to assert terms and conditions to a discussion in which they don't engage it reminds me of a novel.

It was a discussion between male characters about how splendid and formative a mentor another male character had been because he was maieutic (derived from midwifery and akin to Socratic method of eliciting new ideas from others. NB, I loathe the Socratic method mostly because of the way men practice it and it usually involves claiming responsibility for any ideas discussed as if they created them).

Does anyone recognise this novel? I can't think why I'm getting those vibes from some posters who are also effectively non-participants on this thread.

My posts were a critique as to why some posters feel the need to just curse and swear rather than debate, tell me, when you have a group of people that are engaged in helping to encourage debate and analysis, why then is it helpful when you have random comments that are cursing and swearing with no intellectual debate or information ?
Hawkins001 · 27/02/2022 12:30

@DomesticatedZombie

When I have been inclusive of all people, how did you arrive at your analysis ?

Theluggage15 · 27/02/2022 12:35

Why would anyone care what you think Hawkins? You’re like one of those tedious pub bores. It’s a simple discussion about a tweet ffs.

KittenKong · 27/02/2022 12:37

Is Hawkins pretending to be a teacher?

I'm trying to encourage debate and analysis of the tweet, how is it helpful when some mumsnetters, just curse or use profanity, that to me, seems counter productive,.if it does not add any analysis or better understanding.
Hawkins001 · 27/02/2022 12:40

@KittenKong

Is Hawkins pretending to be a teacher?
just trying to at least try to help and encourage debate and understanding.
KittenKong · 27/02/2022 12:47

By demanding that everyone submits their end of term paper? No thanks.

JustSpeculation · 27/02/2022 12:50
@littlbrowndog

I'm trying to give the impression that having a better analysis and debate encourages better understanding and learning.
Is there any way we can get beyond just giving the impression, and actually have some of that better analysis and debate in, you know, words and ideas and stuff? Just an impression comes across as nothing but a pained genteel sniff.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 27/02/2022 12:51

just trying to at least try to help and encourage debate and understanding

you are not helping or encouraging debate

Whitefire · 27/02/2022 12:52

You're not though. You encourage debate and understanding by offering an opinion, not just telling everyone off.

Fair point, when I have researched more and understand different perspectives, then I'll be more qualified to give my analysis.
LunaLights · 27/02/2022 12:56

You are scolding and reprimanding.
You are repeating yourself continuously.
You are not adding to any discussion or debate.
You are attempting to police, deflect and shame.

No one here wants, needs or appreciates it.

newrubylane · 27/02/2022 12:56

I'm not sure I get why MI6 needs to be tweeting for LGBTQ+ history month anyway. They are a public-funded organisation and they should be focusing their time, energy and resources on their actual job, surely.

My aim was trying to use the Socratic methods, of asking why, to encourage and help understand how some people prefer to just swear, and curse, rather than actually debate and analysing information to gain better understanding, and asking how is it helpful just cursing rather than learning from debating, and analysing.

Yes at times I've repeated my perspectives when conversing with different mumsnetters.

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/02/2022 13:05

I see we have a new teacher in town.
Fucking amazing how men love to come over here and tell us what to think.
As for Robin - why do you post on here but block us all on Twitter ?
