I think there is so much to worry about with Ukraine, I wasn't expecting this statement from MI6 about freedoms.... I think a whole society is at risk yet there is more pontificate and point scoring which suggest a 'wall influence.

Completely tone deaf

There's another thread going right now, on the meaning of 'diversity'.

And the consensus is that 'diversity' now means 'I hate women'.

Just explaining this for you, Robin.

KittenKong · 27/02/2022 09:36

Diverse means everyone not just the people of the rainbow. It’s called going your job.

terryleather · 27/02/2022 09:40

@RobinMoiraWhite

Maybe *shock / horror* it’s because MI6 really value what a diverse workforce brings to the important work they do.
Even in the face of all out war, let's make sure we do the important stuff - centre men with identities.
FannyCann · 27/02/2022 09:42

Haha. Robin trots over to scold the women on Mumsnet. Twitter too hot for you Robin? What with that ratio and everything?

highame · 27/02/2022 09:46

I would have thought the job of MI6 and all public services is to fulfil their obligations to the people of the UK and having a diversity strategy is not the first thing they should be publicising, it is 'how are you spending our cash and how are you protecting us'

Diversity is also about women, disabled people, religious people and so on, it is not just about rainbow flags yet rainbow flags get more press than anything else. Any wonder we're all angry

RobinMoiraWhite · 27/02/2022 09:49

I feel sad for those who plainly feel threatened by embracing diversity. I can only think that a life in increasingly small boxes awaits you.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 27/02/2022 09:51

Nah, mate, I'm cool thanks

Theluggage15 · 27/02/2022 09:52

His tweeting of the comment from a staff member saying they were ‘relieved’ to find there was an LGBT network group, as if without one a workplace would be unsafe or something is irritating.

I feel threatened by Russia actually Robin and would prefer the head of MI6 just gets on with the job of keeping the country safe than faffing about with pronouns and shit.

OldCrone · 27/02/2022 09:52

What do you mean by 'embracing diversity' Robin?

Does it include being compelled to believe a man is a woman just because he says he is?

terryleather · 27/02/2022 09:56

Don't be so bloody ridiculous highame everyone knows their job, like everyone else's, is to centre men with identities. Even during times of national crisis or considering other protected characteristics, we must never forget who really matters.

We are staring war in the face, possibly nuclear and extinction but no gotta get those woke points in eh. Priorities now.
BloodyBaffled · 27/02/2022 10:03

Christ on a bike. They're moving neonates into a basement to avoid the bombs and this is the shite our head of M16 comes out with???

Jawdroppingly tone deaf, rather.

The small box in this case is the bunch of overwhelmingly MC, mostly white and male civil servants appropriating real human misery to promote their virtue signalling for Stonewall ratings.
RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 27/02/2022 10:14

I was speaking to ds1 about this as I value his opinion

He agrees that the tweet is tone deaf, he is obviously happy for attention to be focused on Ukraine at the moment

He would rather a tweet in sole support of Ukraine, there could always be a tweet later for LGBT rather than shoehorning it in

Goatsaregreat · 27/02/2022 10:16

Good grief. Just imagine what could be achieved if all the energy put into centring privileged white males was redirected towards people experiencing real oppression and tragedy.

littlebilliie · 27/02/2022 10:19

@BettyFilous

That tweet about Stonewall points nails it. This is one of those ‘strong and visible leadership on LGBT+‘ virtual signalling statements for next year’s Workplace Equality Index submission dossier for sure. After I read about the Stonewall marking criteria a whole host of questionable choices by my previous employer’s leadership team fell into place for me.
They are only ranked at #52 so there are points to be won

Definitely not a parody account? Are we 100% sure it's not a Russian bot?

Women have the right to not embrace anyone or anything they damn well please.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 27/02/2022 10:30

Did you watch the first part of the Triggernometry piece on 24 Feb? That tweet is a showcase of what they were discussing. There's still a focus on concentrating on performance rather than understanding that this is a time to address geopolitical reality.

Didn't agree with all of it (of course) but a genuinely interesting discussion from the perspective of someone who listened to Putin's speech in the original language and ditto for access to relevant documents. (I would never agree with them about Trump and numerous other topics.) The discussions about history and freedom are worth a listen even from the perspective of someone who is likely to disagree.

DomesticatedZombie · 27/02/2022 10:31

I did, Embarrassing. And I thought of that immediately when reading that tweet.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 27/02/2022 10:36

The small box in this case is the bunch of overwhelmingly MC, mostly white and male civil servants appropriating real human misery to promote their virtue signalling for Stonewall ratings.

The small boxes seem to be created and imposed by those who chose to speak so blithely about sending people to gulags for disagreeing with them (remember Goldsmiths?). Those were likewise crass comments from people who affected to believe that they were adjacent to holiday camps with some improving books thrown in.

And, it's Stonewall's own doing that the FOIs revealed that exactly this distasteful jockeying for status points for the WEI lay behind so many organisational tweets from individuals looking to make up their points quota to demonstrate allyship. Of course it's a natural suspicion that this is the motivation. It's to the point where I would wish there to be an acknowledgement that the tweet will be submitted for consideration for some individual or organisational evaluation purposes. It feels against Nolan not to declare this.
@Hawkins001, welcome. Fancy a vodka?
Maybe a kopparberg please.

Hawkins001 · 27/02/2022 10:44

@Terfydactyl

I would prefer more constructive analysis and more debate, rather than some posters just saying the head of mi6 is a pickle, so to speak, ect.

It's easy to be crude, but much better to have good analysis and debates so further understanding can be achieved.
