Please sign into CSP and look at the new iCSP discussion "Stonewall and the CSP"

A great thread beginning and agreement that stonewall are problematic and women's rights are being overlapped by male rights

Then a HUGE ESSAY by a TRA

There was a case recently where a relatively prominent sports physio was reported for tweets from many years ago. He talked about it on X at the time but I think the case against him collapsed.

He tweeted yesterday on his way to another hearing on that. Six years on. I don't know what happened, his tweet from a bus stop on the way home said "shit show"

I (correctly) guessed who that was.

Grief, these FTPs (presumably) take a long time. Unless a matter is egregious, I don't understand why the stress of such protracted proceedings is allowed to run for so long.

I've been MIA, apologies. I was unwell but am back at work now, and trying hard not to get too frustrated with the CSP's continued un-evidenced approach to gender health issues.

My impression is there are some very noisy people on the council who like, eg TransActual's approach to talking about gender. I am surprised the CSP continues to link with TransActual, the person who set it up has some views on extreme pornography and women in general which are at odds with the way a professional organisation usually conducts itself. And I say that as a person who flies close to the professional wind.

A growing number of physios in the specialist interest group have said that they agree with me, that we are not addressing the needs of people with gender issues and are dismissing the rights of women, but, they are too afraid to speak up because they have seen what I have been subjected to.

I'm sympathetic about that, it's deeply unpleasant to be eg called a nazi and homophobe by professional peers. So is watching my professional body ignore evidence because people are too afraid to challenge it. Meanwhile, here's more solid evidence that physio has a role in managing this population's unwanted effects from transition - but we'd first need to acknowledge that there are unwanted effects from transition... females on cross sex hormones are left with sexual dysfunctions and pelvic floor disorders

Pelvic floor and sexual dysfunctions after genital gender-affirming surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis - PubMed

Also interesting how they refer to single sex wards as "trans-exclusionary spaces" 🙄

Which is factually incorrect, single sex wards accommodate trans identified or NB females.

It's striking how the CSP focus is always on the males, isn't it?

I haven't been following his case closely but I remember he tried to resign just to draw a line under it. You can't resign while you are under investigation.

I now know a few people, not just physios, who are going through the HCPC disciplinary process. I've yet to hear of a case which the average man on an omnibus would think was handled in a fair or reasonable way.

Best avoided, would be my advice.

Is anyone going to the online webinar tonight? I can't, I'm working, which might be a blessing.

https://www.csp.org.uk/news-events/events/events-listing/transgender-awareness-allyship

I didn't but I suspect any deviation from TWAW would get you booted from the webinar for transphobia.

ETA it says it'll be recorded and shared with members.

RadFiz · 25/11/2024 19:16

The recording of the webinar is on the site now but it's over an hour long so I won't be watching.

Has anyone else read the new Frontline re the new transgender guidance? I feel absolutely apoplectic! I am not going to post all of what I'd like to say but there is reference to colleagues needing to educate themselves. It's propaganda in word soup format. I'm 18 months away from taking my 1995 pension & I'm sorely tempted to cancel my membership. There is no challenge, no science, just appalling. What is happening in the other prof bodies at the moment? I feel like the CSP is forging a bit of a lone path?

The whole magazine is ridiculous this month. Purports to celebrate LGBT History Month yet it's all about the T. I could not have rolled my eyes harder at the article that used both he and they when talking about someone who is clearly female and then I came across the next article - a physio who is non-binary on account of wearing a man's undershirt, or some such nonsense!

Calyx72 · 01/02/2025 18:17

This is how I feel as well. Down to wanting to cancel my membership.
Almost £40/month for this.

Also in Physiotherapy Journal this month

https://click.notification.elsevier.com/CL0/https:%2F%2Fwww.physiotherapyjournal.com%2Farticle%2FS0031-9406(24)00459-0%2Ffulltext%3Fdgcid=ravenjbssetocemail/1/01000194aad2d8b5-bfbbcdc9-e814-460a-b67b-60d789850fcf-000000/vG4sYbG9eykZ8wJioOvxgOLJ5LtPCFeuffcQByhGOOs=389

I just can't with this. Reporting on gender in research articles is 'problematic' even if people do try to report it, apparently.

Pressed send too soon. It says "Endonormativity is the assumption that everyone has either a typical “female” or “male” body (i.e., endosex), and anyone outside of this normative binary (i.e., anyone who is intersex) is abnormal."

  • well yes, right? Intersex is not a 'normal' sex it's an unusual presentation of one of the two sexes. Gender is personality basically and doesn't affect a person's biological sex.

And if someone is on cross sex hormones that may well exclude them from certain studies, as other medications may exclude someone from certain studies. It affects bone and muscle. It does need study and research in and of itself I would think.

Maybe of some interest. Stonewall have now changed their definition of transphobia. The CSP one appears to be an exact copy of the original. Not sure of the implications.

I wonder if they will update the CSP one and then maybe gender critical posts will stop being removed from iCSP discussions

Okay now I've read all of it properly. We all need to educate ourselves, the article refers to the physio as he and they in the same sentence and frequently switches between the two. Its really awful. Is there any way to respond to this or do we just sit on our hands?

"As a transmasculine non-binary person, Shannon feels they have as much insight into the experiences of trans women as a cis-gendered person does. Which is why work conversations should be about patient care or their interests like discovering that Shannon is creative, enjoys spending time with their family and friends, likes going to the gym, loves guinea pigs, and fostered dogs over the Christmas period."

Who has time for this?

Calyx72 · 01/02/2025 22:55

Shannon has as much experience of a trans woman as any other female eg none

We tried on iCSP and our posts were censored for transphobia

Their trans-related articles seem to get more ludicrous each month. Who cares if Shannon is creative or likes guinea pigs when everyone is rushed off their feet trying to make sure patients get the care they need?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 02/02/2025 11:14

It’s anti excellence, anti science and shameful

RadFiz · 04/02/2025 20:30

There was something in Frontline last month or the month before about an anti sexual harassment campaign they're going to run this year. Wonder if it will focus on THE MOST OPPRESSED type of woman or just us boring old biological women?

Calyx72 · 04/02/2025 20:37

Looking at the NHS Fife tribunal case just now it does seem like only TW matter and women's rights take the back seat. I know which side our union would take.

RadFiz · 04/02/2025 20:48

It is interesting that even Stonewall seems to have reached peak trans and is now on a downhill slope, so to speak, yet CSP is still climbing. Why have they suddenly decided to make trans issues the hill they'll die on? Do other equality issues not matter?

Calyx72 · 04/02/2025 20:51

Yes. I hope the CSP wind their necks in with it as Stonewall have updated their 'transphobia' definition. Not holding my breath but definitely crossing my fingers Smile
