Having been let down by Stewart Lee I wondered if anyone knows how Dylan Moran stands on gender woowoo? I have tickets to see him soon...

Anyone know if Phill Jupitus is GC or TWAW?

I've seen some footage of his current tour and I'm shocked; where's all the clever word play? He seemed drunk and ill.

I've got a refund, add in the misogyny and I'm out. I'm perfectly happy to have my ideas challenged but refuse to waste my money on someone so careless and defunct.

For some reason I thought he’d given up drinking. Perhaps he started again and it explains the perspective.

good you got a refund , though wondering how you got that?

I have seen both Mark Steel and Al Murray at my local venue not that long ago. Al Murray was doing the gig in the car park due to covid and it was really a favour to this tiny venue. It was very funny and very clever. Mark Steel on the other hand was ok but seemed very very bitter about his ex wife and I would be more interested in her side of the story.

Dominic Sandbrook on Kathleen Stock. It’s a cracker.

I was so pleased to read this. I bloody love The Rest is History.

That’s amazing! I have a couple of new names and podcasts from this thread :). I don’t listen to podcasts but would like to try, these seem great candidates.

millerpie · 08/06/2022 01:46

I saw Dylan a few years ago and he was great. Saw him again last Thursday and it was beyond terrible. We were on the front row, he stank of weed and rambled on incoherently for two hours. I could of thrown his keyboard at him by the end of it my mind was absolutely numb.

ChiswickFlo · 08/06/2022 05:38

That makes really sad :(

Another one bites the dust

Fjea · 08/06/2022 05:48

The main thing I have got from this thread is confusion over Mark Watson, Mark Steel and Mark Thomas…

I think I already knew Dylan Moran was a bit shit these days.

moofolk · 08/06/2022 10:48

I saw Hannah Gadsby this year.

So disappointing. We ended up leaving.

She's been so good last time too.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 08/06/2022 11:36

Hannah Gadsby has a partner who's NB, I think?

She had what's her name Petrie as a warm up for the Scottish dates, wee singer who's smashing with a guitar and a rousing political tune. She struck me as a female "young Billy Bragg" and I was DELIGHTED to see a butch woman in a shirt and tie and heaps of talent. And then she said that TWAW and I realised that I had misunderstood the direction the show was going to take.

Hannah was hilarious when she was on the comedy circuit. Nanette was a great show and cleverly done. And now she's playing to her crowd and not challenging anything and I'm not sure that's what comedy is.

Mate, I don't mind a lecture, but, please, I spent a lot of quid on this ticket, for fuck's sake, tell me a joke too.

Manderleyagain · 08/06/2022 16:44

I love Alexei Sayle He recently interviewed helen Steel on his podcast about spy cops I think. I haven't listened to it yet but it made me think at least he is not shunning a known terven woman. But ppl of his generation are more capable of disagreeing on one thing and agreeing on another so it might not mean anything.

Abhannmor · 08/06/2022 19:24

Yes I think Alexei Sayle is a big man in more than one sense of the word. There's a delicious YouTube where Owen Jones is trying to convince him - a Jewish man - that the Labour Party is Antisemitic.

Grace Petrie's position appears to be that she doesn't believe lesbians who say they've been put under pressure to have sex with transwomen. This, for me, makes all her other "right-on" pronouncements worthless. She's enabling rape culture.

Blimey it's years and years since his divorce! He was going on about her when I last saw him, back in 2012!

Feministwoman · 10/06/2022 19:33

Not a comedian, but when I went to a lecture by David Olosoga recently, he made a very pointed remark about cancel culture, as applied to those who state uncomfortable facts about race, sex and gender. In the context, I wondered if he is GC.

(He's well worth listening to, btw.)

ElaineMarieBenes · 11/06/2022 01:29

@Manderleyagain i highly recommend the Alexi Sayle podcasts (particularly the one with Helen). He also does not like LOJ - discuses this with Stuart Lee (another podcast I enjoyed).

ElaineMarieBenes · 11/06/2022 01:33

Alexi’s sandwich bar shows are still available on bbc sounds and are brilliant!

Violetparis · 11/06/2022 07:38

Ben Elton's novel Identity Crisis is fantastic on cancel culture and funny too.

BraveBananaBadge · 11/06/2022 07:42

Grace Petrie tours with Robin Ince and Josie Long. A bill I really enjoyed when I saw them together a few years ago, but sounds more like a punishment now.

Zeugma · 11/06/2022 09:17

I'd be surprised if Alexei Sayle had much truck with wokery tbh. He’s a Jewish Scouser who was brought up as a communist, and he’s also very smart. He knows what's what, I reckon.

Very disappointed in Mark Steel, though.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 11/06/2022 21:03

It's amazing how many seemingly rational, intelligent men have sympathy with ideology that favour men's sexual rights at the expense of women and children.

Badlifeday · 12/06/2022 18:55

Mark Thomas has pronouns on his twitter
