There's to be a debate in the HoL tomorrow pertaining to non-females being able to 'identify' in to women's prisons.

https://twitter.com/womensrightsnet/status/1480252452133822465?s=21

#KeepPrisonsSingleSex is trending at 3 in the UK on twitter but I can't see a thread here, so thought I'd start one. I don't know how the HoL works. Can anyone shed any light about what is likely to happen?

Thanks for posting. On a normal day I would explain about HOL but I've got a bad headache. But someone will come along and explain it

NonnyMouse1337 · 09/01/2022 23:17

That's a great amendment - be interesting to see what the debate in HoL will be like tomorrow.

Goatsaregreat · 09/01/2022 23:39

One of the last HoL debates I listened to was fascinating - so many thoughtful and wise contributions about the dangers of removing the language relating to women.
Hopefully tomorrow will be of the same standard - although I would like to hear from the advocates of putting so many male born sex offenders in cells with women (those that are actually recorded in the MOJ's pitiful data). It's a discussion that needs airing widely.

Hoardasurass · 10/01/2022 09:15

Does anyone know if this will be shown online?

jeaux90 · 10/01/2022 10:00

It will be on Parliament TV (HoL) but looking through its not clear to me what time (and you never really know as it depends on how many people want to speak on other amendments today?)

My guess is this evening though as it's listed last on what's on today (assuming it's under the Police, Crime and courts Bill)

Wheresthebeach · 10/01/2022 10:01

I can't believe they are putting sex offenders in women's prisons. Its shocking really.

KeepPrisonsSingleSex is trending on Twitter. Worth joining in if you don't think rapists should be put in women's prisons.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 10/01/2022 10:08

Brian Piddick's on twitter calling female only spaces state sponsored police harassment and segregation on prejudice. As expected really. Then goes on about individual risk assessments.

Yeah, cause the sexual assaults happening are a really ringing endorsement for those 'risk assessments' aren't they Hmm Is the assessment just asking the rapists to pinky swear they won't do it again 🤔

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 10/01/2022 10:09

Paddick, even.

tinyspider · 10/01/2022 10:19

Anyone know what time this is due to be debated today?

nauticant · 10/01/2022 10:30

The session starts at 2.30pm and if the business is handled according to the order shown in this link then it (Detailed checks (report stage) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill will also take place) will be much later on.

ArabellaScott · 10/01/2022 10:54

thanks OP, for posting. Good to see this being debated, I think it probably needs to be several debates, so many issues to unpick.

happydappy2 · 10/01/2022 10:58

I’m so glad this is gaining traction, KPSS have done brilliant work in this area. It is insane that a so called civilised society is locking up women with male sex offenders.

Rightsraptor · 10/01/2022 11:17

Am I reading that right, that Brian Paddick is calling female-only spaces 'state-sponsored police harassment'? Segregation on prejudice? Sorry, not on Twitter but can't work out that last bit - segregation by prejudice maybe?

I wonder if he realises this free-for-all will include men's spaces too (because we will damn well make sure it does). Men's public toilets - including in the HoL - will have to become 'anybody', just as ours are becoming. No more changing rooms anywhere for men only and let's have a renewed effort against any remaining men-only clubs. Only fair for it work every which way, Brian.

I once had hopes of that man. During the last HoL debate on this (last I saw anyway) he said how at one stage he was teetering on the edge, not knowing which way to jump with trans issues. Well, he clearly decided to choose the wrong side. Not only that, but he's showing his disagreement with safeguarding generally. Women can easily prove that we are disproportionately the victims of male sexual violence so if our protections, such as they are, are revoked then also those of children should, logically, be revoked. How can he not see this? How can any of them not see this? Can you tell I have steam coming out of my ears?

Lovelyricepudding · 10/01/2022 11:30

Women can easily prove that we are disproportionately the victims of male sexual violence

That is why they are working to undermine such statistics and why organisations counting victims of feminine are targeted. If we get rid of sex categories for recording data then we can no longer prove this.

Lovelyricepudding · 10/01/2022 11:32

So Brian Piddick thinks we should do away with single sex provision? That prisons should be mixed sex? That toilets/changing rooms/hospital wards should be mixed sex?

IvyTwines · 10/01/2022 11:34

Exactly.

Screenshot for those not on twitter. Re reading, he could be talking about seperate bills I suppose, but this is not made clear and neither has he clarified in later tweets.

My blood pressure has only just come down from the last debate.

''Only 7 women have been raped or sexually assaulted by male trans prisoners, so housing rapists with women is fine'' was the gist of some of them Angry With a hint of ''if only people took the time to know some trans people, then they'd be totally fine with convicted rapists being locked up with women''.

In a debate about keeping rapists, (not EVERY tw, only those convicted of rape) out of women's prisons. It was astonishing to see some of them show more sympathy and consideration to rapists than vulnerable women.

Lord Blencathra was absolutely brilliant, though.

Do you think it's only bigots who want to keep men out of women's prisons Redlake?

Lovelyricepudding · 10/01/2022 12:10

Redlake how do you define 'bigot'? As someone who doesn't agree with you?

Goatsaregreat · 10/01/2022 12:11

redlake
What's the term for someone who wants to house a male born rapist in a prison cell with a lone woman?

Asking for a friend

yourhairiswinterfire · 10/01/2022 12:36

If you see women as actual human beings (rather than mere props) who deserve to be protected whilst locked up, who shouldn't have to worry about the possibility of being raped whilst inside, you're a bigot?! Can't believe people say this shit out loud and actually think they're good, progressive people 🤢

If caring about women makes me a bigot, I'll fucking wear it with pride.

TInkyWlnky · 10/01/2022 12:42

Happy to be a bigot if it keeps born males out of the female prison estate.

Sexnotgender · 10/01/2022 12:48

@TInkyWlnky

Ditto.
