Because we were discussing people making prats of themselves on twitter, Pie brought up a different twitter event from last month, having been (presumably) labouring all this time under the misapprehension that it had been the official BBC Mr Blobby account.

Like many twitterati, Pie fell afoul of the subtle distinction between "claims to be Mr Blobby/female" and "actually is Mr Blobby/female", which epitomises this entire debate.

A few years ago if you were a progressive-minded man, you'd be as wary of making misogynistic comments as you were of making racist ones. Now they don't care. The story in the Times today about the rise in incel sites is of a piece with this.

Yes this is so true. Was an interesting piece on Times Radio about it earlier, scary stuff, and it's all connected.

I see no reason why anyone should feel bad for finding the minor actor's witterings don't hold their interest.

I certainly find myself dwelling on the matter of the blobby impersonator and pondering why various people didn't think his tweets were somewhat out of character for the professional account of a figure in children's television.

For example, one of his replies to a tweeter who appreciated the "grow up" tweet was:

At what point would these people think, steady on, that's not suitable for children?
