I hadn't heard of him either, but I do think this is a sign of how unafraid men are becoming of displaying their misogyny. A few years ago if you were a progressive-minded man, you'd be as wary of making misogynistic comments as you were of making racist ones. Now they don't care. The story in the Times today about the rise in incel sites is of a piece with this. It's not dissimilar to the way in which antisemitism is apparently becoming acceptable in progressive circles.

I agree. I think there has always been a number of men who simply don't see women as human beings in their own right. They see women as 'non character' players in life, here to serve or fuck. Up until fairly recently, they couldn't state these views out loud but the current movement, which is seeking to erode women's rights, gives them a socially acceptable platform to just say what they think and if anything, be praised for it.

He is the brother of James Gunn - whose tweets got him sacked from directing Marvel films until he was brought back.

He is in a lot of his brothers films - particularly Guardians of the Galaxy. If you think these are bad his brothers tweets were awful.

The tweets were 'jokes' about raping kids. Gunn was in his 40s when he posted them, but claimed he hadn't realised it was wrong to 'joke' about raping kids. Weird how Sean doesn't seem bothered about that.

Well, it may be the case the 'mirror' tweet really doesn't apply to him - it does specify 'intelligent' and there's not much evidence he qualifies.

I think women are perfectly placed to comment on social policy changes that affect the lives of women, and indeed the very definition of womanhood. He's pretty much done the equivalent of telling Oprah Winfrey to shut the fuck up about racism because she knows fuck all about it.

Maybe Sean hasn't got as far as realising that this is a debate about women's rights. In which maybe he should be kindly told to go educate himself?
