"All Trans and Non-Binary Kids Need and Deserve Access to Puberty Blockers""

This article has just popped up on my Google Chrome homepage (along with ones about Rishi, Chip shops and covid so a mixed bag)

www.wellandgood.com/puberty-blockers/amp/

So PB are totally reversible, they are completely and utterly safe and there is no real data about Lupron and bone density so as long as one takes calcium supplements all is good.

Well, that’s a lie

BreadInCaptivity · 10/12/2021 19:10

Actually a lot of lies....

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2021 19:26

Apart from the medical misinformation, what would be the purpose of giving puberty blockers to a youngster who identifies as 'nonbinary'? Unless the idea is to hold them in a prepubertal (but still sexed, even if immature) state , they're going to need to go through normal or cross sex puberty at some point. At which point, doesn't their choice either way resolve their nonbinary state?

Bellendejour · 10/12/2021 19:31

It’s literally a stream of lies.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 10/12/2021 19:38

The Overton window keeps shifting.

Genital nullification surgery is getting slowly more normalised, too.

Sadthat's sad, especially as it sounds like a response to being assaulted. It's hard to believe that person won't regret this irrevocable decision, made so young.

Artichokeleaves · 10/12/2021 19:55

Fgs it sounds like that advert for hair conditioner. Puberty blockers, because you deserve it....

It's serious medication, with a hell of a lot of unanswered questions, and this zealotry makes it doubly important that access is strictly controlled and monitored to protect child patients from decisions made in the interest of political activism and other adults' agendas.

Spottybluepyjamas · 10/12/2021 19:58

What the actual fuck. Sometimes I really feel like I need to take a step back from what's going on because it's too bizarre and terrifying.

Helleofabore · 10/12/2021 20:06

How many lies can you fit in there!

Whitefire · 10/12/2021 20:10

If you didn't know though you could read that and think they were on a par to giving your child Calpol. (Liquid paracetamol)

From the article:

One way to understand the difference between not taking blockers and taking blockers is to consider the difference between a strobe light and a regular lamp. Just as the pulsing strobe light might trigger someone to dance in the way regular yellow light wouldn’t, the pulsing of GnRE triggers production of the sex hormones in the way a constant stream of GnRE cannot.

That's such a disingenuous analogy, as it suggests that things simply appear different but the same thing is going on underneath, and the association of natural puberty with the strobe light connotes that puberty is disconcerting and unnatural, whereas the steady stream of comforting warm light provided by puberty blockers feels calming and more relaxing.

Also, what's this nonsense about strobe lighting making a person dance differently? That's just appear to be dancing differently under a strobe light because it's a bloody strobe light.

Whitefire · 10/12/2021 20:21

I got a bit lost at the light analogy, blinded by rubbish science.

littlejalapeno · 10/12/2021 20:22

That was so sad to read- to be twice assaulted (second time by a medical professional) and then cut yourself off from your body to the point where you think you only exist to give pleasure and live in skin armour. They’ve tried to do an eternal sunshine of the spotless mind to their body… poor kid.

That's desperately sound. The therapeutic response to a teenager who has been sexual assaulted should be counselling, support, maybe medication. It shouldn't be to slice their privates off. Poor, poor child.

Motorina · 10/12/2021 20:22

Sad not sound. Awful typo!

Mooscow · 10/12/2021 20:24

"Gender expansive" FFS that's a new one on me.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 10/12/2021 20:27

Quite a mind-boggling pack of lies on that page -- the usual ones pushed by the lobby groups, but a bit surprising to see them stated as 'fact' by what looks like a health and wellbeing site. Though, obviously, puberty blockers are a big money spinner for drug companies.

One new (to me) bit of language distortion to add to the trans-lobby collection: gender-expansive, which describes people whose gender identity is broader than the traditional gender norms. Unlike those closed-minded bigots who understand biology, you can be cool, life-affirming, expansive ....

NecessaryScene · 10/12/2021 20:41

gender identity is broader than the traditional gender norms

Is this the blue hair? Or other clown accoutrements?

Otherwise it's just wearing clothes or accessories not normally worn by their sex which means non-binary people actually signal their sex all the time, just backwards. Grin

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/12/2021 20:43

Is there a name for adults with zero qualifications in medicine or child psychiatry pontificating about medicating children resulting in sterilisation because of their adolescent confusions/ mental health issues?
And as for that poor 19 year old seeking safety from being assaulted and thinking that removing their genitalia is the solution.

How do we protect children from people like this?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 10/12/2021 21:10

Yes, that poor young woman wanting her genitals erased. Surely it’s a fantasy though? There’s no way it could be done?

Whitefire · 10/12/2021 21:18

Can one of the posters who are constantly telling us
'educate yourselves' help us out with gender-expansive?

OP posts:
ScrollingLeaves · 10/12/2021 21:46

So often when I see ‘medication’ written in America I read it as a euphemism.

They seem hell bent on turning the next generations into pulp.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/12/2021 22:33

gender-expansive, which describes people whose gender identity is broader than the traditional gender norms.

So someone who doesn't like the cages of gender stereotypes but who thinks an adequate solution is to make their own cage bigger, rather than getting rid of the damn things?

yellowtwo · 10/12/2021 23:08

thinkingaboutLangCleg

It's real, sadly.

That's all a little horrific, just because you can doesn't mean you should.
