"All Trans and Non-Binary Kids Need and Deserve Access to Puberty Blockers""

Whitefire · 10/12/2021 19:07

This article has just popped up on my Google Chrome homepage (along with ones about Rishi, Chip shops and covid so a mixed bag)

www.wellandgood.com/puberty-blockers/amp/

So PB are totally reversible, they are completely and utterly safe and there is no real data about Lupron and bone density so as long as one takes calcium supplements all is good.

Unless the idea is to hold them in a prepubertal (but still sexed, even if immature) state

Guess what?

I opened this thread to post this link. I am creeped out by the specific inclusion of “non-binary” in the quote.

That interesting paper, queering medical ethics on the topic of “ongoing puberty suppression” for nonbinaries, even raises, albeit declines to answer, the question of what kind of person would be interested in a sexual relationship with a permanently puberty-suppressed partner.

This just gets worse and worse. How can so many people not see the harm?

Re the nullification surgery - if you’re female, how do you wee? It sounds alarmingly similar to fgm.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/12/2021 00:43

Here is another that does "nullification".

www.alignsurgical.com/non-binary/nullification/

While many patients might be interested in transitioning into either a male or female identity, there are plenty of individuals who feel that their gender identity does not quite conform in one direction or the other. Gender nullification surgery can enable non-conforming patients to enjoy a relatively smooth genital area.

Nullification creates a relatively continuous and mostly unbroken transition from the abdomen down into the genital area, enabling gender non-conforming patients to enjoy a body that looks closer on the outside to the way they feel on the inside.

^AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?&

TheWorld Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)has standards of care in place that require patients over eight-teen have two letters from mental health providers, stating their readiness for surgery. Clients must be taking hormones and be non-smokers.

Phallus-preserving vaginoplastyhas been shown to have a positive, lasting benefit for transmen and nonbinary individuals who desire non-standard gender affirmation surgery.

&If you’re interested in this procedure, or one of the other non-standard gender surgeries we offer, we recommend reaching out to us and setting up your consultation. There are numerous ways that we can allow you to enjoy the gender identity that you prefer.^

Reach out and set up your consultation, and we’ll learn about your gender identity, and help you by developing a surgical plan that unites your outward appearance with your personal gender identity. Set up your consultation, and learn more about what we can do for you today.

🤮

They treat it like it's as trivial as having your ears pierced. Here's your latest accessory. A flat chest and action man genitals. Available in pink or blue or striped to suit.

IamAporcupine · 11/12/2021 01:08

[quote PurgatoryOfPotholes]The Overton window keeps shifting.

Genital nullification surgery is getting slowly more normalised, too.

This is horrendous Sad

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/12/2021 01:08

What is phallus-preserving vaginoplasty though?

As far as I know, a vaginoplasty is the construction of a neo-vagina/vaginal vault.

I quote, from a different surgeon.

During a vaginoplasty surgery, a surgeon creates both an outer and inner vagina by using skin and tissue from a penis.

Your surgeon will use skin from the penis and scrotum to build theinner and outer labiaof the vagina

Your surgeon will create anew opening for the urethra(so you can urinate). Your surgeon will use tissue from your foreskin to build thenew opening of the vagina(also called the introitus).

healthcare.utah.edu/transgender-health/gender-affirmation-surgery/vaginoplasty.php

So the surgeon that offers the "nullification" procedure also offers a procedure for biological males who want a penis and a neo-vagina?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/12/2021 01:09

Someone please, please educate me on this.

SammyScrounge · 11/12/2021 01:36

@ErrolTheDragon

Sadthat's sad, especially as it sounds like a response to being assaulted. It's hard to believe that person won't regret this irrevocable decision, made so young.
How can a doctor perform these surgeries, knowing it is not that kind of treatment that is needed?
Igmum · 11/12/2021 07:14

That poor poor child. And how evil of all these pundits, politicians and activists to deprive these children of the help they so desperately need and push them towards this because it suits their own political agenda

Motorina · 11/12/2021 07:27

Ttexulansic has a video on it. Don’t watch whilst eating.

I have no qualms in saying this should be banned, like any other form of FGM. It’s actually much worse than ‘classic’ FGM, as that doesn’t (intentionally at least) sterilise the victim.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/12/2021 08:42

Agree this is FGM and needs to be banned. It's extreme body modification, not a medical procedure. And we need to stop encouraging the ideas underlying it, that it's possible to have no sex.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/12/2021 08:54

there are plenty of individuals who feel that their gender identity does not quite conform in one direction or the other. Gender nullification surgery can enable non-conforming patients to enjoy a relatively smooth genital area.

So removal of external genitalia, and for females - so casually glossed over in one of the links, a hysterectomy- is considered a proportionate treatment for people whose 'gender identity' does not quite conform in one direction or the other?ConfusedShock bloody hell.

Whitefire · 11/12/2021 08:59

How can this not be considered a mental health issue?

Utterly batshit.

And I choose my words carefully.

Truthlikeness · 11/12/2021 09:37

"In fact, as Dr. DeChants says, the bigger risk with regards to puberty blockers actually comes with denying access to the medications. “There are non-reversible effects of going through the puberty of your sex assigned at birth,” he says."

Like becoming comfortable with your adult, sexed body and realising you're not transgender at all like 80% of trans children do? That would be an awful side effect...

One would have thought the very act of requesting the removal of one's gentials was enough reason to be declared incompetent to make that decision. These people are being preyed upon.

DoubleTweenQueen · 11/12/2021 09:45

Why is he not in jail? Dear Heavens, where the hell are we?

Thelnebriati · 11/12/2021 09:47

In the US FGM is only banned on girls under 18, in most states. Its not clear how well the ban is enforced.

''With the passage of the federal law ban, the Female Genital Mutilation Act, in 1996, performing FGM on anyone under age 18 became a felony in the United States.
However, in 2018, the act was stuck down as unconstitutional by US federal district judge Bernard A. Friedman in Michigan, who argued that the federal government did not have authority to enact legislation outside the "Interstate commerce" clause.
As part of the ruling, Friedman also ordered that charges be dropped against 8 people who had mutilated the genitals of 9 girls. The Department of Justice decided not to appeal the ruling; however, the US House of Representatives appealed it.
In 2021, the STOP FGM Act of 2020 was signed into law, and it gives federal authorities the power to prosecute those who carry out or conspire to carry out FGM, as well as increasing the maximum prison sentence from five to ten years. It also requires government agencies to report to Congress about the estimated number of females who are at risk of or have had FGM, and on efforts to prevent FGM.

As of September 2021, 40 U.S. states have made specific laws that prohibit FGM, while the remaining 10 states have no specific laws against FGM.''

If only doctors would stick to the “do no harm” principle.

The medical profession bears a lot of responsibility in this mess.

Truthlikeness · 11/12/2021 09:59

Unfortunately you don't become an ethical person simply by obtaining a medical degree, particularly in countries without socialised medicine.

ScrollingLeaves · 11/12/2021 10:08

Nullification seems to be a way to remain a sort of child. It is indeed difficult to leave childhood behind for boys and girls but especially so for girls because of how they may be preyed upon as their body changes.
These treatments are dangerous because it could be so easy to think yourself into feeling

an answer to difficulties can be found this way.

Is this approach to life - escaping, falsely changing - becoming a zeitgeist? If so, I wonder why?
