Ok, I'm just having a rant and I know FB groups are free to set their own rules.
I've been following a fab FB group, (Home for Peculiar Artists 2), post goes up from admin saying this is a reminder, we don't allow anything Harry Potter or JKR related, if you don't know why then educate yourself. Lots of supportive replies.
I'm on the group in my real name, so I'm not going to weigh in, but it hugely fucks me off, so many people just believing lies with no dissent allowed. Just makes me think this whole thing is insurmountable.

@WonderHen

What would be the point in having single sex spaces if the opposite sex can use them?

Women's changing rooms, toilets, refuges, prisons?

The reasons for these being separate are SEX based.

So if people of the male sex can enter places specifically for people of the female sex, this erases the reason for having them in the first places. Reasons for which women fought for for decades. For physical safety, security, modesty for religious or cultural reasons, and dozens of other reasons.

Do you believe that the reason people with penises want to use these spaces is more important than the reasons that women don't want to use them?

And if the answer is yes do you dispute that this makes you a misogynist?

Or do you believe that women that have been raped, abused, beaten, attacked, by men, have no right to a single sex space?

"Sex-based" segregation should not exist.

JK Rowling is fantastic. It’s a bit late for wine - anyone fancy a digestive?

SusannaQueen · 05/12/2021 23:00

Tell me, do you think it's okay for an adult female person with a vagina to expose her genitals to little girls?

What?!

OppsUpsSide · 05/12/2021 23:00

@Wavedancer99 I am not sure if you genuinely don’t know what you did (I suspect that is the case) or if it was a deliberate act.
Either way, it says an awful lot more about you then the poster you were ‘quoting’.

Outlyingtrout · 05/12/2021 23:01

Not really, because I don't consider one's gender identity to be dependent on biological sex at all.

Did you manage to have a think about my previous question?

What is a woman?

foxgoosefinch · 05/12/2021 23:01

Sure thing:
twitter.com/christapeterso/status/1416599964214448130

You mean from one of the people who led a sustained campaign against Kathleen Stock?

@Wavedancer99, here’s the fundamental question: do you really, really, genuinely believe that men who say they are women change into women?

How do they do this?

I’d really like to hear your response.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 05/12/2021 23:02

Yes, anyone who wants complete and total exclusion of any and all trans women from women's spaces is transphobic.

Can you define 'transwomen' here please? Who exactly are we talking about?

Also, on what basis should men who say they are women be allowed in women's spaces?

So if a male says he is a man, he should be kept out of women's spaces, and women have the right to ask him to leave? But if a male says he is a woman he should be welcomed in with open arms?

And you can't see anyone ever taking advantage of that kind of policy ever?

My DH is not a threat to women, should he be allowed into female spaces? What objective difference is there between him and another male who happens to identify as a woman?

Can you link to the evidence which tells us the exact point in transition where a transwoman comes out of the high risk category of male and into the low risk category of female?

Wavedancer99 · 05/12/2021 23:02

@Waitwhat23

And hormone treatment isn't a way to change sex. Again, it enables the body to mimic secondary sexual characteristics. It doesn't affect gametes. Women needing HRT aren't any less women because they need treatment. Their bodies are inherently female.
What is it that makes them female? Gametes and chromosomes?

In that case, does that mean intersex women born without "large gametes" or XY chromosomes aren't women?

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 05/12/2021 23:03

"Sex-based" segregation should not exist.

Can you expand on this? You think everything, prisons, hospital wards, refuges, sports should be mixed sex? How will that benefit women exactly?

Wavedancer99 · 05/12/2021 23:04

@SusannaQueen

I don't see what's unclear about my question. Do you think it's okay for an adult female person with a vagina to expose her genitals to little girls?
Outlyingtrout · 05/12/2021 23:04

"Sex-based" segregation should not exist

When we separate human beings into sex categories (male and female), it becomes very clear that one sex poses a statistical threat to the other. Men are responsible for 98% of sex crimes. Women and children are overwhelmingly the victims.

If we do not segregate based on sex, how do you propose that we safeguard against this clear danger?

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 05/12/2021 23:04

Intersex!

OppsUpsSide · 05/12/2021 23:05

People with DSD aren’t trans.

WonderHen · 05/12/2021 23:05

"Sex-based" segregation should not exist.

Ok. You're entitled to your beliefs.

Why do you feel that your beliefs are more important than scientific fact and of the legal sex based rights of the majority of biological women? The majority of whom do not want biological men to have access to their spaces (for the reasons stated in my previous post)?

Outlyingtrout · 05/12/2021 23:05

Still super interested to hear your definition of "woman" by the way.

The only thing it says about me is that I'm aware of what bigots say, from my experience of arguing against them.

Just like I'm doing right now.

Yes I had a WTF at that too.
Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 05/12/2021 23:08

@Wavedancer99 it is a fact that one sex class of humans disproportionately harms another sex class of human. This has happened for millenia, and no one has ever had any trouble figuring out one sex class from the other throughout history, even with the existence of people with DSDs that you are now so keen to appropriate.

All transwomen are part of one of these sex classes. The same one. Which one is it?

SusannaQueen · 05/12/2021 23:08

I don't see what's unclear about my question. Do you think it's okay for an adult female person with a vagina to expose her genitals to little girls?

I don't think it's OK for anyone to be exposing their genitals to little girls. But I'm guessing I'm falling into some trap there, because everyone else is studiously avoiding your statement.

@OppsUpsSide

People with DSD aren’t trans.
A portion of them are, actually.

And all intersex people are affected by your bioessentialist definitions of gender.

Gender meaning the categories of "man" and "woman".

Theunamedcat · 05/12/2021 23:09

@Wavedancer99

It is inappropriate for any adult male or female to expose themselves to a child

Skysblue · 05/12/2021 23:09

Is it just me, or has the word “transphobic” been used so many times to describe brave women standing up to bullies in defence of rational thought and civilised debate, that the word “transphobic” has become a compliment?

I think it’s so funny when extremist activists try to shut down debate by saying “that’s transphobic.” No one cares. It isn’t an insult anymore.

foxgoosefinch · 05/12/2021 23:09

As an aside, as someone with an 8 y o I can also confirm that preteens can’t yank HP merchandise off the shelves fast enough. WW have clearly licensed to just about any retailer going this year, and it’s like preteen gold dust - they can’t get enough HP clothes, HP games, HP puzzles, HP stationery, HP Christmas decorations, you name it. I’m having to shell out a fortune for wands, costumes, trips to the studios tour, notebooks, Lego, Hedwig plushies, HP Dobble, scrunchies, hoodies, socks, even Hogwarts knickers 😂

Every 8-12 year old is obsessed with it right now, and in the real world where people don’t hang out fulminating on Tumblr, DD manages to find Harry Potter enthusiasts everywhere from the hairdresser to her piano teacher who tells all the kids a crotchet rest looks like Harry Potter’s scar.

JK is not being cancelled by the vast majority of people. Die mad about it, as the yoof say 😂

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 05/12/2021 23:11

Gender meaning the categories of "man" and "woman".

There are two sexes, male and female.

Everything else is your personality.
