Yep.

This is what we were told today on an 'Inclusion' meeting...by a man
I work in a male-dominated industry and they just said this.

'Women or if you identify as a woman please reach out for menopause advice'

OP posts:
Zeev · 18/10/2021 13:15

Oh they can have mine.

allmywhat · 18/10/2021 13:16

of course it was inevitable, but... bangs head on desk several times

thoughts and prayers, OP, for you and for whoever's providing menopause support for woman-identifiers. I wonder what the support is? I imagine trans menopause is ever so much worse than women's menopause,

zafferana · 18/10/2021 13:17

There may be an upside - if men get the menopause then perhaps decent care for all will become standard, rather than women having to fight for it? Just a thought.

bordersroaming · 18/10/2021 13:19

More likely they will sail through it and use it as proof that women who struggle are just being feeble

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2021 13:23

He needs reprimanding for excluding TM/female 'nonbinaries' who might actually be going through the menopause.

Lovelyricepudding · 18/10/2021 13:25

Hmm... so a TW on CSH stops taking them?

DotCottonsFag · 18/10/2021 13:26

True

My mind was blown by listening to Nolan's Stonewall podcast

Im itching to share it

Surely a transwomens menopause is detransitioning.

Chilver · 18/10/2021 13:29

Surely he should have said 'Women, or women who identify as MEN please reach out...

This whole incident just highlights that trans issue are solely about men's wants and needs...

RealDinosaurofBarnardCastle · 18/10/2021 13:30

Oh just fuck off with this insanity

Selkiesarereal · 18/10/2021 13:34

Would be quite funny if all the men decided to collectively identify as women and reached out to see their reaction.

DotCottonsFag · 18/10/2021 13:36

Well they want our sector to be 40% women so its one way of going about it

Sadly what will happen is decent care for transwomen whose hormone related issues are not at all similar to real women. Nothing to get het up about though as we don't really matter.
ImUninsultable · 18/10/2021 13:37

I think he was trying to be woke and inclusive but got it wrong. Should have said women and trans men, or like... people who identify as men?

It's like, he knew he had to include trans somehow and knew some trans people will go through menopause and just sort of went for it without thinking, so woman and trans women will so he's right thinking. Just made him look an idiot.

ImUninsultable · 18/10/2021 13:38

*show he's right thinking

PhiRhoSigma · 18/10/2021 13:38

@RealDinosaurofBarnardCastle

Oh just fuck off with this insanity
This x 1000.
Kosmin · 18/10/2021 13:43

What industry? I think the closest I've got to these issues at work (large financial services companies) is my new employer asking if I was Male, Female or Other [Please elaborate if you wish]

Gumbomambo · 18/10/2021 13:45

I doubt many TW will want the menopause because as we all know, once you hit that you become surplus to requirements, no baby making, no longer desirable. I don’t think that would suit at all.

TheABC · 18/10/2021 13:46

I am trying to unpick this.

  • A transwoman does not need to have any surgery or hormonal treatment in order to transition (a gas bill is enough for a GRA). Therefore, they will not experience female menopause as they are an intact male.

  • A transwomen who elects to have a medical intervention like above will be on long-term hormonal treatment. Now, they won't have the "traditional" menopause as they are on long-term oestrogen but they are at increased risk of things like blood clots. This report on a 2018 study below was interesting as it flagged the dangers of false equivalence between menopausal women and transwomen in studies.

www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/study-finds-health-risks-transgender-women-hormone-therapy-n890031

So, a menopause event tailored to women would not do justice to transwomen's specific medical needs.

Transmen can have menopause (again, depends on hormonal treatment), but as they don't identify as a woman, they miss out.
Again, there are specific factors to consider, such as bone density, hypertension and vaginal dryness that can be aggravated by testosterone, as well as menopause.

Franca123 · 18/10/2021 13:50

I can't help thinking 'ah, bless him!' to this.

DialSquare · 18/10/2021 13:53

I look forward to them becoming fat and invisible like me.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/10/2021 14:05

It is a pity you didn’t call him out at the time or question what he meant. Can you talk to him now under the guise of inclusivity for transmen and be curious about how it manifests with transwomen?

andyoldlabour · 18/10/2021 14:15

Well, that should surprise me, but very little does nowadays.
Yesterday on another forum, a poster told me that transmen usually go through a male puberty (I assume they mean growing testes and being capable of producing sperm Confused, and that transgender people usually go through a male and female puberty Shock

Sorry this is OT, but thank you for that link. Darios Getahun, the author of the study referred to in that article has co-authored a number of other interesting studies looking at the risk of being diagnosed with gender dysphoria and going onto hormonal treatment as well as suicidality amongst patients who identify as trans. (The results on the latter come from actual patient data and bear little resemblance to the surveys often quoted.)
