Yep.

This is what we were told today on an 'Inclusion' meeting...by a man
I work in a male-dominated industry and they just said this.

'Women or if you identify as a woman please reach out for menopause advice'

OP posts:

^they’re !

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2021 00:27

The ACAS document discussed in this thread gives no indication who undergoes the menopause, just a mysterious 50%

World menopause day for 50% of people www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4378429-World-menopause-day-for-50-of-people

Enough4me · 19/10/2021 00:33

It's OK as menopause relates to cervix havers and not women. Remember only TWAW.

Also you shouldn't question mansplaining OP, remember your place as a dinosaur hoarding cervix haver.

So happy men explain it, so it's clear as mud...

Sex discrimination treated as an afterthought there - nice

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/10/2021 17:21

The ACAS wording has now been tweaked. Presumably thanks to Mumsnetters….

Enough4me · 19/10/2021 23:45

Yes, I can see menopause is quite rightly linked with women now

Wowsers

That's better! By miles. Two women quoted. ACAS top exec and Meno charity woman. Stats. Easy to read and understand.

Shame if you click for more info you get all that stuff from before though!

If you are watching this thread ACAS.

Top marks for new header page. Very good. Like it.

Now you need to do a quick clean up of the pages linked to. And all is golden!

IMO it's a bad idea to suggest that any changes in any hormonal treatment should be included in this blurb.

Write a separate page about different groups and hormone therapies, bearing in mind that both women and men can receive these for a variety of reasons.

Link to it from Meno page if you wish. Or a separate trans topic. In fact trans topic with specifics would be great.

By all means talk about hormonal therapies. Many are sensitive eg men being treated for T levels way lower than expected. now that is sensitive.

But please make the follow up pages clear as well.

Remember-

Clarity is everything.
It's ok to talk about things specific to male/ female.
A section to talk about specific challenges for eg trans people is best all round.

Believe it or not, there ARE TW who claim that they have 'periods' and experience 'PMT' . They are all over a popular video sharing website if you care to look. Some claim to have 'cramping' and pain, although what is actually cramping is anyone's guess given that they don't have female anatomy. Monthly emotional changes, monthly digestive issues, in fact every symptom apart from bleeding. One video I watched even stated they were having morning sickness!

It's like they want it so badly that they actually experience psychosomatic symptoms.
So it wouldn't surprise me at all if some are claiming they experience the menopause.

Enough4me · 20/10/2021 22:43

Yes, well menopause could be appropriate if called men - o - pause.

Enough4me · 20/10/2021 22:43

I'm happy to pass on period pains and the menopause to any needy men.

GCAcademic · 21/10/2021 06:34

Can they have perimenopause too? Who do I give mine to?

Fetarabbit · 21/10/2021 06:36

@ErrolTheDragon

He needs reprimanding for excluding TM/female 'nonbinaries' who might actually be going through the menopause.
Yes I feel a lot of the people who make such 'inclusive' statements don't actually take the time to bother to understand what they're saying.
QueenDanu · 21/10/2021 06:57

Ha ha that is just funny. They can also have a coil fitted.

saleorbouy · 21/10/2021 13:22

Does that mean that women identifying as men can go for erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation counselling? It's an interesting concept that you can suffer from a condition when you don't have the anatomy that causes it!

bubblegumunicorn · 21/10/2021 13:53

I wonder if they meant woman identifiers or "period Havers" ie trans men and some none binary people instead of trans woman!

Enough4me · 21/10/2021 22:51

Can we swap, I'll give my period away but would like some extra muscle tone, or longer leg bones?

PrincessNutella · 22/10/2021 06:27

Thank god males can have menopause, I am sure we are doing it all wrong and at last some Experts can hold forth on how we can do a much more efficient job at it.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 22/10/2021 07:19

@Enough4me

I'm happy to pass on period pains and the menopause to any needy men.
Along with dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, PMT and the cost of sanitary protection 😡
Enough4me · 22/10/2021 14:44

Cost of HRT too, if men care to sponsor us...?

Clarice99 · 22/10/2021 15:11

@QueenDanu

Ha ha that is just funny. They can also have a coil fitted.
I know where I'd like to shove that!
HPFA · 22/10/2021 15:29

I suspect this is an actual mistake and they meant to include transmen and nonbinaries rather than transwomen.

This is what happens when people are saying what they think they "ought" to say rather than what they actually know to be true. They keep slipping up!

StandUpStraight · 22/10/2021 22:03

Am unbelievably depressed by logging on to Dr Louise Newson’s new Balance website - used to be menopause doctor site - to find the word “women” completely absent from the landing page and all the other pages I clicked on. It’s now all “individuals” and “perimenopausal and menopausal people”, and “gender inequality in healthcare” and “menopause affects more than half the population”. It reads so badly, I noticed it immediately.

If menopause doctors cannot use the word “women”, are we surprised when others feel that they cannot?

Enough4me · 23/10/2021 00:44

@StandUpStraight, I won't click the link, not because I doubt you or think you're view is wrong, but I'm not interested in seeing more erasure of women. If we all stop following sites that agree to blindly follow the ideology and find proscience sites we can vote with our feet.

I don't know good menopause sites, but be interested if anyone else has recommendations?

StandUpStraight · 23/10/2021 07:45

Absolutely fair enough, enough4me.

I follow her on Instagram and she’s never had an issue saying “women” before, and her first book was fine in that regard, too. But I’ve noticed that her site now has the European Union regional development fund logo on it. I’m going to bet she got some funding and one of the conditions was that the language on the website be “fixed”.

HPFA · 23/10/2021 11:17

The weird thing is this seems to be a British and American thing.

We all think of Ireland as being terrible because of the prisons issue but the Health Minister there has no problem talking about women.
