Met Police officer becomes Britain's first 'bi-gender' PC

Read and weep. Two warrant cards, one male, one female.
After this week and what we've learnt about the Met.

You couldn't make it up.

“The first time I walked into a Met building as Abi, I was hyperventilating so much I almost passed out.
I’ve done it a handful of times since and felt so happy that I got to be me at work. Abi is a part of me that exists and I want that part to be recognised and validated."

That's from 2017...

TedImgoingmad · 05/10/2021 00:58

Oh just fuck off (not you, OP). So sick of these tedious narcissists.

Mollyollydolly · 05/10/2021 01:05

I hadn't noticed the date, saw it on Social Media tonight. Actually interesting they were doing this four years ago. I wonder if they're still in the force.

So TWAWAM?

EccentricaGalumbits · 05/10/2021 01:36

I am a woman! I am exactly like all other women! No Debate! Actually, I changed my mind, I'm maybe just a bit woman. On Tuesdays and Thursdays. Actually I'm both. Or neither. I'm fluid, I'm pan, I'm curious. But don't you dare get my pronouns wrong.

It's such a fucking insult to women who have been oppressed and abused since the dawn of time and can't simply opt in and out at whim.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2021 04:13

This is really old news.

At the time there were threads.

Summary.

  1. FFS
  2. Two warrant cards? What the hell? That is massively risky and surely against protocols
  3. Force confirmed at time that would be able to search women etc on a woman day.

Overall opinion.

Fuck off with this shit.

BrandineDelRoy · 05/10/2021 04:15

Is this the guy that posed with the taser, wig, and weird teeth?

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2021 04:18

Google can't find anything on Callum/ ABI after 2017.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2021 04:19

Branding pretty sure that was someone else.

FlyingOink · 05/10/2021 06:02

My understanding is that there's two of them now, with the double warrant cards. I'll have to double check. This person is still in the Met AFAIK.

Restlessinthenorth · 05/10/2021 06:12

I know of an officer in WYP in exactly the same circumstances. Its mind boggling nonsense

ScreamingMeMe · 05/10/2021 06:43

Meanwhile it seems that there are daily stories about how misogyny is rife in the force (I've just posted another one in Feminism Chat).

PaulineScrambledPhones · 05/10/2021 06:53

@BrandineDelRoy

Is this the guy that posed with the taser, wig, and weird teeth?
No, that’s someone calling themselves Skye, of WMP. They were at Birmingham Pride last weekend, in full WPC uniform and bad wig, waving a flag and shouting about how great it is to be accepted. Must have been a slow day for crime.

So can Abi strip search female suspects? Can Abi interview rape victims? In the light of the Couzen'c trial could women refuse to ' accompany Abi to the station"?

PigeonPants · 05/10/2021 07:04

This highlights (as do many things recently) the utter ongoing failure of the UK media to, well, report the news and keep the piblic informed. The headline for this should be something like "Met Police Officers Now Issued Multiple Warrant Cards, Any Name or Sex".

Kosmoceratops · 05/10/2021 07:06

Could be a good thing. Abi is male but identifies as a woman so can be called on to search any traans woman who needed searching at the police station.
Since Abi is male I do not think that Abi could be used to search a trans man unless the trans man consented to a search by Abi.

Triphazards · 05/10/2021 07:12

Is bi-gender the correct term? I'd hate to get it wrong.

Big-ender sounds better to me.

334bu · 05/10/2021 07:17

Since Abi is male I do not think that Abi could be used to search a trans man unless the trans man consented to a search by Abi.

But "Abi" is a " woman" on the warrant card. Abi is classed as a female officer. Only female officers can strip search any female suspect no matter their gender identity.

ScreamingMeMe · 05/10/2021 07:26

@334bu

So can Abi strip search female suspects? Can Abi interview rape victims? In the light of the Couzen'c trial could women refuse to ' accompany Abi to the station"?
That's a god point, and the way things have been going, it would probably be the woman who got in trouble.
nauticant · 05/10/2021 08:04

It's good to revisit this now. At the time, any complaint would have attracted the "bigot" slur and it wasn't acceptable to argue in response. Now, well, it turns out that sex is fundamental and how the Met organise themselves needs to prioritise someone's sex over their gender identity. That's if the Met is in the business of serving the public though and not being there to suit the life choices of those working in the Met.

highame · 05/10/2021 08:39

I always thought the 'inclusion' by the Met for transwomen (because it is always transwomen) was a smokescreen. 'If we are going to remain a misogynistic force, we have to have a woman leader and fold our arms around men who are apg. Women will never notice - oh they look at rape statistics, oh dear. Never mind, lets wave a rainbow flag

highame · 05/10/2021 08:40

when I get angry, my cynicism takes over

Whatthechicken · 05/10/2021 08:58

Just posted on another thread that talked about the double warrant card issue. I would worry about the legal ramifications of any arrest this person made when presenting as their other identity.

I presume ‘gender fluid’ people wouldn’t legally change their name, as they would use the original identity when they are presenting as that gender. So, there is legally one person - but actually two names (for their other warrant card). Does the other identity have to be sworn in as an officer too? Would an arrest stand up in court if the second identity is not a legal person?

Artichokeleaves · 05/10/2021 09:01

It is an old story, but no less outrageous. This is not a TW or a non binary person wanting the freedom to dress as and be themselves at work - which would be no problem of any kind, a TM would really have nothing to do beyond their choice of name, the uniform is highly androgynous anyway - this is someone with a separate persona that they like to use as needed.

TW police officers, NB, TM, great, just have some sensitivity about extreme sensitive points like who searches who and accept that many people require same sex not identified sex. End of issue.

But a separate persona? If we have a police officer who identifies as a Klingon or an elf or furry would that be equally something they should be allowed to use their workplace and public serving role to express, while expecting the general public service users to indulge it?
