Brilliant news, chuffed for Marion. But also furious at how she's been treated. They knew there was no case. They fucking knew it and still dragged it on anyway, whilst Marion was harassed and abused because she'd already been found guilty in the court of public opinion.

Disgrace. I hope there is action she can take, will support her all the way, but wouldn't blame her one bit if she just wants this to be the end now, finally.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 28/10/2021 10:12

Excellent news! Flowers for Marion!

Deliriumoftheendless · 28/10/2021 10:12

I’m so sorry for your loss Marg.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 28/10/2021 10:14

Great news.
Will this help the other woman in a similar situation in NI?

KittenKong · 28/10/2021 10:14

I wonder if the officer who picked this up is to be ‘talked to’. Has really helped in the damage of the reputation of the force.

Zebradanio · 28/10/2021 10:15

I've followed your case and I'm absolutely shocked that this has happened to you. Clearly you have been punished by the processes rather than the outcome. Deliberately? Who knows. It certainly looks like it. It was clear that the case was not strong and had more holes in it than a Swiss cheese
. The police allowing themselves to be used in this way to punish innocent individuals is disgusting. If you want to start a crowdfunder to seek compensation from those responsible, I would certainly donate to it.

nauticant · 28/10/2021 10:18

We've gone from hate crime reports leading to women being criminally prosecuted, to prosecutions being overturned on appeal, and now to the police abandoning prosecutions.

It's taken its time, 2 years, but things are changing.

@MargaritaPie

What happened to the "garden" this time?
I'd imagine it went part way to paying her legal fees...

Absolutely. Although the charges being dropped must be a relief, she has not seen enough vindication.

I will absolutely contribute to a further fund to pursue justice.

WarriorN · 28/10/2021 10:19

Fantastic! 👏

Selkiesarereal · 28/10/2021 10:23

I am so pleased to see this for Marion’s sake.

If it hadn’t been for the actual toll that this case has had on Marion and her family, I would have liked it to go to court so that the general public could see the full craziness of this and go wtf what is going on with our police service.

But at last and in my mind much too late, common sense has prevailed.

LastSummerHere · 28/10/2021 10:24

This is fantastic news! I am so happy for Marion and I hope that stupid police officer who pursued her (the one mired in gender shite) wises the fuck up.

Congratulations Marion!💚

DialSquare · 28/10/2021 10:24

So pleased for Marion but fuming that she had to go through this. And yes, but i'm another happy to dig more if needed.

SigourneyHoward · 28/10/2021 10:26

Fabulous news! This and the 'repositioning' of the police in Ceri's case does suggest that the glare of sunlight is requiring the police/prosecutors to pause and reflect. Obviously, it shouldn't require sunlight for them to be acting within legal parameters, with equity etc but I guess thats where we are right now...

Floisme · 28/10/2021 10:28

@Theeyeballsinthesky

Brilliant!! 😃😃 Wondering if it deserves a separate thread?? Woukdbt want ppl to miss it Grin
I agree it should have a separate thread - I nearly missed this myself. I'm delighted for Marion.
OvaHere · 28/10/2021 10:30

Brilliant news.

girafferafferaffe · 28/10/2021 10:30

Omg actually shouted YES!! When I heard

allmywhat · 28/10/2021 10:31

Wasn’t Joanna Cherry going to challenge the basis on which they brought this case? Was avoiding the court case a way to reserve their rights to bully people like this in the future?

It would have been great to have the legality of this nonsense tested in court with Joanna Cherry, but I’m glad for Marion’s sake they’ve dropped it.

nauticant · 28/10/2021 10:33

I do wonder whether the decision came from upstairs to protect the Scottish Government's new hate crime legislation which currently appears to be in limbo. I realise that Marion Millar was going to be prosecuted under the older legislation but a hugely embarrassing and very public court case in which the state is shown to be oppressively using its powers as it's trying to get hold of stronger powers would have been a PR disaster.

TrainedByDinosaurs · 28/10/2021 10:43

@MargaritaPie

What happened to the "garden" this time?
Thank-you for asking MargaritaPie as it is a good opportunity to explain that part of the process to anyone thinking of donating to other CrowdJustice cases.

All monies donated are ringfenced for the legal fees. In this case there will have been extensive fees already. Whenever there’s any fees left over the person who started the CrowdJustice appeal can nominate another similar fund for the surplus to go to.

So we can donate confident that if our donations aren’t needed they go to another case that needs support.

This is another case where I feel my donation has done some good.

TrainedByDinosaurs · 28/10/2021 10:45

Above should say’ Whenever there’s any donations left over’

Bowednotbroken · 28/10/2021 10:49

Thank goodness! But dreadful that Marion was put through this ordeal. People should be ashamed of themselves.

trancepants · 28/10/2021 10:57

While an enormous part of me, like most of us, hopes that Marion explores any legal avenue she may have to seek justice against the people who used this legislation against her. It's worth bearing in mind that she needs to prioritise what's is best for her mental health and that of her family. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to move on, even if it means not getting fairness.

I have a situation with my DS's former school where I and a number of other parents have clear grounds to take a case for how our children (and we) were treated. But after a lot of soul searching we decided that we just couldn't face the mental and emotional toll it would end up taking. So if Marion does decide the best thing for her and her family is to walk away, that's a completely and utterly justified response.

FannyCann · 28/10/2021 11:08

What happened to the "garden" this time?

Some posters seem to like to imply the possibility of impropriety regarding use of donations.
I am more than happy to assume that any excess will be made use of appropriately, there are other cases that would benefit from some extra support I'm sure.

But if Marion and Joanna want to treat themselves to a celebratory trip to the Maldives I am more than happy for my little contribution to go on a well deserved break.
🍾🥂🍹🌴🏄‍♀️🧘‍♂️⛱🏝🏖
Your welcome Marion and Joanna.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 28/10/2021 11:08

It should never have come this

Hopefully Marian can get a little peace 💐
