Sorry, no share token, but pleased to see another significant figure speaking out.

OP posts:
Dragonglass · 26/08/2021 15:24

Sara Pascoe commented on Joe Lycett's post with a heart, so I guess she agrees with him Hmm

Dragonglass · 26/08/2021 15:26

Someone has also unearthed some rather horrible old tweets from JL. Rape is hilarious apparently!

Dragonglass · 26/08/2021 15:28

I've done this before, so let's see if it works.

I guess that shows what he thinks of women.

SP has always been firmly TWAW AFAIK.
yourhairiswinterfire · 26/08/2021 15:32

Wow.

And he thinks he's in a position to lecture on women's safety Hmm

he has not always been supportive of the trans community, he's just pretending now.

Enough4me · 26/08/2021 15:45

As in, he knows it's a joke act really - just drag.

HermioneKipper · 26/08/2021 15:48

@yourhairiswinterfire

But that's not what he said, though!

The only way they can argue against our points is by completely making up what our points actually are.

Us: You know, it's a really, really bad idea for rapists to be housed in women's prison just because they say they're women. The female prisoners don't deserve that as a punishment, it's dangerous and incredibly cruel.

Them: Oh. My. God, so what you're saying is every trans person is a massive danger and a rapist and you wish we didn't exist and you want to take away all our rights, you fucking Nazis!

Pathetic children. Waste of time trying to have a grown up conversation with them.

God this absolutely. It’s like shouting into an echo chamber of madness.

They just lie about what we’re saying and hear what they want to

HermioneKipper · 26/08/2021 15:49

I always quite liked Joe Lycett and Russell Tovey. Ugh

There has to be a name for the universal law that when a woke bloke comes out strongly in support of trans ideology there will always be an incriminating tweet on his timeline where he calls trans people slurs or makes transphobic jokes.

Isn't if Pharisees or the Whitened Sepulchre law?

(I'd partial to KWB law - knouty wee besom law)

They call it ''There's Always A Tweet'' (TAAT) over on Twitter.

If anyone can think of a word beginning with W to replace 'Always', we can call it TWATs Law

Enough4me · 26/08/2021 22:28

Not sure on the W for the post above, but I have realised that trans willys are willys is also TWAW.
Willys are willys so factually correct too.

Talking of Sarah pascoe being very very pro twaw, along with cariad Lloyd, they both starred in pascoe's BBC sitcom which had a long to camera piece about how adipose fat is stored differently in male and female bodies..... Then Sara sat back on the episode of the last leg where Adam Hills had a prostate check on live telly (good!). He was saying 'men, get your prostate check! Men, there's nothing to be scared of!'

She didn't say a word about trans women. or how not all men have prostates.

I did a thread about it at the time:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4086365-The-Last-leg-stand-up-for-cancer-special

Enough4me · 27/08/2021 13:34

Is that because it suits TW to ignore men, and male health, as they don't want to control this group of people?

So TWAM for health reasons, but TWAW when they say so?

ArtemesiaK · 27/08/2021 16:28

I don't (can't, won't ) do Twitter. Are there any famous people coming out as 100% in support of Simon Callow, or are they all keeping their heads down?...

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 21:32

No idea.

People don't like putting their head over the parapet on this.

LobsterNapkin · 27/08/2021 22:10

My guess is that famous people/actors/musicians who agree with Callow but have not already said anything publicly about this are ones who have decided not to. Either they have a specific reason to avoid it, which might just be that they can't afford to work, family reasons, etc, or they prefer not to talk about politics generally in the public sphere.

LobsterNapkin · 27/08/2021 22:11

Can't afford to NOT work, rather.

This thread is instructive in just how sustained criticism can be for wrongthink (5 years and counting):

Why would any business or individual let themselves in for this world of pain when there's no sign of relief on the horizon?

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 22:45

Please will someone explain the rape joke!

I just don't get it and that's annoying me now!

FoxBaseBeta · 27/08/2021 23:05

Ah bollocks I always liked Joe Lycett Sad

FloralBunting · 27/08/2021 23:14

@NiceGerbil

You mean the Joe Lycett one? He says he saw an absurd scenario involving two species of animal, one sexually attacking the other, and found it funny, and then the punchline was to say that all rape is funny if you think about it.

I think the idea is to illicit awkward laughter, a la Jimmy Carr as in "You can't say that!" while feeding off the darker elements in some of your audience.

Rape isn't funny. Anyone who tries to draw near the knuckle humour from a rape scenario is usually inverting the power balance to press the absurd, which I think is what Lycett was going for, but it doesn't work. He's just showing how he doesn't like women.
