Sorry, no share token, but pleased to see another significant figure speaking out.

Two different species?

A sexual attack in the way humans understand it?

How peculiar.

NiceGerbil · 27/08/2021 23:29

Men rape other men as well.

How do we know he was talking about a male (animal?) trying to rape a female one?

Yeah it's not a joke it's a provocative /edgy thing isn't it.

FloralBunting · 27/08/2021 23:42

Oh let's not analyse his perspective on rape vis a vis men or women. The bulk of the other jokes listed are quite bloody clear on his perspective on women, and it's not beyond his wit to know that far more women are subject to sexual assault than men. He's a shit, and I'm quite happy to leave it there.

.... I am willing to bet that for each Joe Lycett and Sarah Pascoe there are a dozen similar names reaching out to Simon Callow right now saying thank you for speaking up, I can't right now.

And actually I have nothing against Joe and Sarah demonstrating love and solidarity to marginalised people. The trans community are equally endangered by this ideology as women are, frankly. But anyone saying anything at all from either direction should first and foremost be advocating for debate, free speech and solutions going forward.

I know that if that happened I could hold my own against Lycett, pascoe, the guilty feminists and Daniel Radcliffe....

I adore Simon Callow. I once saw him doing voice exercises in a London park and smiled at him. He gave me a thumbs up back.

He’s my favourite part of many of the films he’s in. He’s wonderful in Shakespeare in Love

Enough4me · 28/08/2021 00:27

Laurie Burton and Shahrar Ali have shown support.

Plus, another positive, The Times has run a book review highly in favour of Helen Joyce over Shon Faye.

It was always going to take the men standing up about this.

I saw a tweet of mine (and Facebook post) from 2018 and it asked when was there going to be some "he for she". Save for Glinner, there was not one man opening his mouth for women's rights.

It was always gonna be the case that things would be highlighted and the argument taken to the masses only when the men folk started to have their say and pontificate.

I am GLAD for that. But also infuriated.

He's even tinier in real life than he seems on screen/stage, isn't he.

Not sure if it's been mentioned up thread but Simon Callow mentored Gwendoline Christie, employing her as an assistant when she was trying to break into acting.

It's like when I passed by Martin Sheen in a corridor, I'd no idea he was so small (like Callow, enough personal charisma to fill an entire city).

Both men of enormous integrity and courage.
