Is trending at number 1 in the UK at present. I haven't been around all day so I'm not sure what this has happened in response to and came here to find out, but there aren't any threads. Heart breaking reading these stories and the effects on rape victims who can't access support services because they've been excluded by male-centring policy.

OP posts:

@MiladyBerserko

Well said Artichokeleaves

This is an appalling abuse of women. Everytime I think this shit can get no worse, it does. And our government does nothing to protect us.

Our government is actively promoting this.

Worth remembering that Mridhul is - or was - connected to various organisations with considerable politcal clout. Worked for Engender, I think, as well as Rape Crisis. Has been consulted by the ScotGov, I seem to recall. One of the other board of Rape Crisis is co-convenor of the Scottish Greens, or was until recently. It's all very closely intertwined. These orgs are govt funded.

This isn't just about one person who has taken a job they shouldn't have. It's about a whole network of people engineering this situation for political ends.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/08/2021 10:47

Mridhul Wadhwa is a trans woman, lives as a trans woman, is generally recognised as a trans women.

What does that have to do with anything?

ArabellaScott · 11/08/2021 10:49

lurkermum, I hope you stick around and feel that you can still join in the conversation. It is a highly sensitive topic and this particular instance is a particularly sensitive one. It comes right down to the wire of women's consent, women's rights and women's boundaries. Sensitive for many. But we're here for women, at the end of the day. Always. Brew

Jaysmith71 · 11/08/2021 10:50

Janette Tough is Wee Jimmie Krankie, lives as Wee Jimmie Krankie and is generally recognised as Wee Jimmie Krankie.

Doyoumind · 11/08/2021 10:52

@lurkermum

I don’t think trans women are less safe no. I don’t believe I have said that. This is descending into a chaos I didn’t intend. It’s a shame I couldn’t communicate my views clear enough and they have been taken out of the context I intended
You've come across people who are eloquent - much more so than me - and have spent a good amount of time learning about, analysing, considering and commenting on this debate, and that's why you are struggling to match the arguments.

If you haven't spent any time on twitter or been part of these conversations apart from occasionally lurking on MN then you've missed out on a lot of what influences the conversation on here.

KittenKong · 11/08/2021 10:53

You just had to go and mention the swinging krankies! Brain bleach please...

Theunamedcat · 11/08/2021 10:53

While I don't believe transwomen are "less safe" this transwomen is massively unsuitable for the position you do not bring a contradictory personal agenda to your place of work and reframe your work to accommodate

To put it simply

Dont bring a beefburger to a vegan restaurant and expect people to be happy

Jaysmith71 · 11/08/2021 10:56

Veggieburgers have long identified as transmeat, but supermakrkets have usually declined to include them in the meat fridge and instead offer them their own third space.

Doyoumind · 11/08/2021 11:05

I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but I experienced it last night and saw others commenting on it on twitter.

Usually when you type in a trending hashtag it will autocomplete for you. That stopped happening yesterday for this hashtag. Without sounding all conspiracy theorist about it, there's a reason that happened. "Rape crisis" seemed to be picked up by the algorithm for trending for a while today but that also seems to have disappeared. It could be as it doesn't qualify as a trend anymore but who knows?

There are a lot of people talking about it in support of females (ridiculous I have to say that instead of women). Still only a handful (of the usual suspects) are posting an alternative standpoint. The majority view by far is that this is all terribly wrong.

Tibtom · 11/08/2021 11:08

MW objected to women who have suffered life threatening or life changing injuries to the vagina, anus, rectum, cervix and other parts of their body at the hands of violent men being allowed to request a female person to examine these injuries in the immediate aftermarth of that attack by men. MW wanted men who insist others refer to them as a woman to be able to do this and require that the injured woman not be allowed any boundaries from men when being examined for injuries caused by men if that is what the men want How is this not further assault?

Yep. Not only that but she felt so strongly about it that she left the SNP over it. Because it could prevent trans-women doctors from carrying out medical examinations.

I feel it’s fair to ask what possible motivation a person could have for wanting to be able to carry out an intimate medical examination on a patient against their will anyway.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 11/08/2021 11:28

Access to services after trauma should NOT come with conditions.

The condition of accepting a male to provide that service when you have been attacked by a male is fucking cruel. To be then told you must accept that male as a female or the service will include you being educated out of that view is barbaric.

But very simply, MW is using their own personal circumstances for professional gains and for that reason MW should be sacked.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/08/2021 11:32

Absolutely.

Grammarnut · 11/08/2021 11:44

CatherinaJTV - A transwoman is a man. That's the difference between a transwoman and a woman.

PartyofPun · 11/08/2021 11:48

They’re telling the patient to put their feelings aside and validate and prioritise the feelings of the practitioner. It’s wrong on so many levels.

If we apply this to blind women, elderly women, disabled women who are utterly reliant on intimate personal care, why should these already massively disadvantaged women have to validate that any male can now identify as a woman for their own personal reasons.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/08/2021 11:51

Yes I noticed that too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/08/2021 11:54

Yes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/08/2021 11:55

So do I. And anyone endorsing that.

merrymouse · 11/08/2021 12:53

It’s complete denial that a traumatic response to male violence can exist.

I don’t understand how any competent politician can think that is acceptable.

(‘Competent’ here acknowledging that sadly some politicians don’t even attempt to appear competent, but e.g. Nicola Sturgeon is supposed to believe she can run a country.)

Jorrris · 11/08/2021 13:03

@CatherinaJTV

A trans woman is a woman, a man is a man.
A transwoman is a man. A man is a man. Fixed that for you.
DancesWithTortoises · 11/08/2021 13:09

A biological man in charge of a rape crisis centre for women?

No thanks.

334bu · 11/08/2021 13:09

Interesting that Rape Crisis Scotland insinuated that it was the fault of groups like Women and Girls Scotland that women were now afraid to access their services and not their refusal to offer female only help.

beastlyslumber · 11/08/2021 13:10

Sorry, haven't RTFT, but what's really awful is seeing TRA tweets about how women are trying to close down rape crisis because we don't want transwomen to receive services?????

Is this deliberate, this LIE about what's actually being said? It doesn't matter if it's deliberately evil or just brainwashed stupidity, I suppose. The effect is the same.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 11/08/2021 13:13

It's all they have, lies and hyperbole.

beastlyslumber · 11/08/2021 13:18

You're right. You're so right. I need to step away for a while. My blood pressure must be through the fucking roof!
