Is trending at number 1 in the UK at present. I haven't been around all day so I'm not sure what this has happened in response to and came here to find out, but there aren't any threads. Heart breaking reading these stories and the effects on rape victims who can't access support services because they've been excluded by male-centring policy.

OP posts:

Bloody. Hell.

TWO separate vested interests.

TWO.

Are we bothering with the Nolan principles or ethics or basic standards in positions of responsibility any more, or is that now bigoted too?

“Much of the funding comes from government who put conditions on that funding, it's why we're where we are now. A female only service would be unlikely to receive funding in the current climate which means that all women only services would have to be funded by donations.”

I do wonder if that’s what’s behind so much of the official acceptance:
Force funded refuges to take males to comply with funding - many women stop using them.
Refuges then can’t justify their funding due to lower numbers using them.
Happy LA saves money by withdrawing funding; women are back to raising donations instead.

A tad farfetched but I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case

Congressdingo · 13/08/2021 17:47

@mustlovegin

The funders will probably have a policy that states women's services are for All women

But that's the point. If someone funds a new charity, they can establish whatever policy they want. I know it's not easy, but these organisations don't seem to be fit for purpose, women should stop attending, and new ones need to be set up, fast

It's in the pipeline, but frankly it's not easy or cheap to start, run, maintain. It actually may never get going but there are some women out there working on it. When the time is right there will be links for funding. It will have to be entirely funded by us, any government funding has the usual rules of inclusivity. And no one wants that.
mustlovegin · 13/08/2021 17:53

Congressdingo It's reassuring that something is being done

I've not read anything by this writer before but she has a very funny turn of phrase even when she is clearly raging.

Thank you for sharing that article, it’s excellent, she is raging and she isn’t the only one! More sunlight, more raging, more people seeing what is going on, the better.

Could you not run an equally effective but leaner service with volunteers focusing on the job at hand, keeping overheads to a minimum? These charities increasingly appear to be tools for propaganda rather than organisations to help people in need.

Volunteer led services are still quite expensive to run - either you need to train volunteers (which is costly for this type of service), or draw in people who are already trained. You need people to support the volunteers, and people to recruit and train them. While some volunteers stay with an organisation for years, many more come, get the training and maybe stay for a few months and then you’re back into the recruitment and training cycle.

It’s actually more sustainable to have a small, decently paid staff augmented by a small group of committee volunteers.

Artichokeleaves · 14/08/2021 10:43

MSP Maggie Chapman said misinformation was being spread about the services

What is being shared and is causing utter outrage is nothing more than the exact information given by the CEO!

If it's misinformation take it up with the CEO. If by misinformation you mean 'talking about things that make us really uncomfortable to face up to' well then good, frankly. Face it. Own it. If it sounds wrong to you, there's a reason for that.

Not mentioning tricky things (like reality) does not disappear it. It is not naughty to keep mentioning reality.

KittenKong · 14/08/2021 11:33

I love our when people talk a lot misinformation toll or context - when the actual words are there for all to see.

severnboring · 14/08/2021 17:58

@severnboring

If you want to report a woman to the police for hate crime - let's say for referring to a convicted rapist as 'he' - the College of Police guidelines say:

'The victim does not have to justify or provide evidence of their belief...police officers or staff should not directly challenge this perception'.

If you're a woman in Edinburgh who has been raped and you want a female-only service, your bigoted beliefs and perceptions are to be challenged and reframed.

Heads I win, tails you lose.

Posted this yesterday meaning it as a comment on the climate of institutional capture and what it means for women in Scotland.

Saw this today: twitter.com/WeAreFairCop/status/1426446777037819905/photo/1

It's not a wider climate in which Wadwha can operate to Wadwha's advantage and take over a rape crisis org - Wadwha personally created these conditions!

Many thanks for the link; it is truly shocking that a person will tie themselves on knots rather than admit the obvious. Natal women are being abused by men, and it's OK? I'm speechless.

NachoBabe · 16/08/2021 20:02

(Hi, sorry, new here, long time lurker, second-time poster: I posted this in another thread and was kindly redirected.)

MW is in hot water regarding using the ‘Rising Free’ book on TGF without consent from the authors, who are themselves survivors, and failed to contact any of them since being appointed CEO over three months ago. A non-apology email has been sent to the group.

No it’s not hit socials yet. Mumsnet exclusive. I’ve got screenshots but it’s not my place to call how the authors decide to handle it so can’t give more details yet, apologies.

KittenKong · 16/08/2021 20:43

I await it hitting the mainstream (and the excuses to follow).

FOJN · 16/08/2021 21:25

I've seen this somewhere too. Probably on twitter, maybe on #AskRapeCrisisScot or on forwomenscot sometime over the weekend.

Has there ever been such a disastrous appointment? Has this person done anything right since he took on the role? And why the people responsible for hiring and hiring are just sitting on their hands is beyond me....surely he would still be under probation. He is utterly incompetent and the wrong person for a whole host of reasons. Not least because he isn't a woman!

trying to get my head around what's going on. Have The guilty feminists and Wadwha taken the book, edited it and passed off the work as the original? What format is it in? Is it a free book to help survirvors? is it being sold anywhere? Is it a book or a an PDF?

INAL but isn't this a copyright/theft type issue?

EXCERPTS from twitter.
Rising Free authors.

the book is being advertised through the @GuiltFemPod by the new manager without any of us knowing

there Are 7 authors my chapter has been removed.

Why has my chapter been removed?

Why is the book being used without us knowing?
