That response was brilliant.

NOTHANKYOU

Chickenyhead · 03/08/2021 19:44

Love it!

MoltenLasagne · 03/08/2021 19:46

Amazing response - how dare that journalist take a moment of victory from these women by lobbing that grenade of a question at them.

AustinPowerful · 03/08/2021 19:48

Ffs those women have just won Olympic medals and they're being asked not about their amazing performances but about the 43 year old male competitor who didn't even manage a proper lift.

Pucarbuile · 03/08/2021 19:57

That actually made me emotional. Those women have worked so hard and deserve all the glory they get. The dignified "No thank you" was just perfect.

notaclownfish · 03/08/2021 19:59

I love everything about it.
It's saying no not just to biological males in female sports, but also having to discuss it at all instead of focusing on their own victories.
Women are saying no.

What gets me the most about this utter turd of a question is that the interviewer KNOWS that these women would be destroyed by the media if they admit to being unhappy about the situation. It's not enough that they've had to compete against Hubbard, they're expected to celebrate it too.

Masdintle · 03/08/2021 20:07

"You say it best when you say nothing at all" Grin

MaudTheInvincible · 03/08/2021 20:10

It's not enough that they've had to compete against Hubbard, they're expected to celebrate it too.

Yes absolutely. They're expected to give their enthusiastic consent to this assertion of male supremacy in front of the world's press. In those circumstances it was a supremely dignified response. Well done that woman!

Puddycatfan · 03/08/2021 20:19

I've just had it through from Glinner. Fucking awesome. I've watched it several times already and am still laughing.
Such class. Talk about saying it best when you say nothing at all...

PronounssheRa · 03/08/2021 20:21

It's not enough that they've had to compete against Hubbard, they're expected to celebrate it too.

Yep it was a dick question that put these women in an awful situation. It took the focus from them as winners and turned it back to a bang average, out of shape male who didn't even register a lift.

littlbrowndog · 03/08/2021 20:24

I know. The cheek of that dude asking that question. Was bored of the medal winning women wasn’t he

Let’s ask about Hubbard cos who cares about you medal winning women

loopyapp · 03/08/2021 20:26

I would wear that t-shirt

CharlieParley · 03/08/2021 20:27

Sometimes silence is all you have to register protest.

They will have been briefed on appropriate answers. They know they cannot say anything critical. I've seen sportswomen asked about transgender competitors come out with non-committal platitudes, where you realise afterwards they skirted the question and avoided all possible trouble.

That silence was defiant. It had teeth in it. I remember it from my childhood under a totalitarian regime and I will remember these brave women for not playing along.

McPancreas · 03/08/2021 20:30

Thier collective silence and the eventual response has to be one of the best of all time.

Succinct, polite and clear - So great they found a way to communicate how they felt despite the threat to thier medals and sponsorship for speaking truth to power.

greyinganddecaying · 03/08/2021 20:32

@loopyapp

I would wear that t-shirt

Me too!

Amberfromcamber · 03/08/2021 20:33

The best response to the question about males in female spaces

#nothankyou

Perfect.

Kanaloa · 03/08/2021 20:37

I love it! How completely dignified to not allow the conversation to be monopolised by this when it should be focused on the achievements of these female athletes/sportswomen.

GNCQ · 03/08/2021 20:41

The winner in the middle seat, she clearly does a "bangs head on desk" action, but with her hand.
Their body language is so clear.

Fantastic dignified response from all the winners.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 03/08/2021 20:47

Wonderfully dignified response. I love her!

Empressofthemundane · 03/08/2021 20:54

I think we have a new catch phrase.

So good.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/08/2021 21:05

That long, long, long silence and then...

Just so polite.

TellMeHowYouMet · 03/08/2021 21:09

Oh I couldn't love this more!

JoborPlay · 03/08/2021 21:31

That silence! Brilliant.

BattyOrange · 03/08/2021 21:31

They will have been briefed on appropriate answers. They know they cannot say anything critical.

Yes. But the long, long silence after the question, the body language and the eventual tone of voice of the clipped reply - all spoke volumes.
Perfect response!

Someone should post that clip on the BBC Sports thread....
