If any LSE alumni on here feel like penning a complaint... How can this be acceptable in an academic paper?

"“If TERFs think trans* is an endemic threat to feminism, let us be the threat to feminism…

Picture this: I hold a knife to your throat and spit my transness into your ear. Does that turn you on? Are you scared? I sure fucking hope so.”

Matt Thompson, LSE GENDER STUDIES MSc STUDENT"

I'm pretty speechless.

I suspect his career chances are lower than a snakes belly right now...

What a waste of tuition fees...

KittenKong · 28/07/2021 22:40

Hmmmm - would anyone allow them to spout such nonsense if they were?

His tutors should be ashamed to allow such a dissertation topic of nonsense of epic proportions to give approved (I remember debating my chosen topics work my tutors) .

Just remember what happens when the loan doesn't get paid off within 30 years.

Jenny Taxpayer coughs up.

Given the notoriety of some interns who've made substantial errors in some positions/organisations and betrayed trust yet have been able to move into influential positions with the Civil Service or in MPs' offices - I don't anticipate this will be a block to Matt's career chances at all.

I should think that it will assist him in the eyes of some recruiters.

Pretaxanger · 28/07/2021 23:22

That just looks like a degree in shagging around. I managed that without a university!

I had to look up affect theory. It's rather surprising it warrants the word "theory".

Cerebelle · 28/07/2021 23:23

This reminds me of a gig I went to once. It was compered by someone who was either a drag queen or a very flamboyantly dressed transwoman. At the start, she(?) said something along the lines of "Any terfs in the audience put your hands up" very aggressively. Then, when obviously no one did (including my terven self as I felt intimidated) said: "Good, I don't have to tell anyone to fuck off." Later, she came off the stage to walk in the crowd and went right past me which confirmed she was a good foot and a half taller than me, with much wider shoulders. Definitely made the right decision to keep my mouth shut.

Made me think because it's just like the conference described here. Lots of women will have been there, silently in fear. Just because no one vocally objects, does not mean everyone supports the view. We all know what happens to women who speak up.

It's all about the feelz

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 29/07/2021 11:56

Someone has responded to Sex Matters tweet that they had a response from Prevent as 'not a Prevent matter as they only deal with incidents where there is radicalisation or extremist concern' and suggests they take it up with the LSE.

That's just effing marvellous. Threats against women, nothing to see here lads Angry

Tumbleweed from LSE. Bunkering down, ignoring the concerns of women and doing fuck all Sad

KittenKong · 29/07/2021 11:59

It’s like screaming into the wind. Now if the threats had been against trans people - the sky would have fallen in by now.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/07/2021 12:07

It just shows how normalised violence against women is.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/07/2021 12:08

I think it is a case of replacing the word 'woman' or 'feminist' with another minority or rewriting the paper as being about any other oppressed demographic. Suddenly I suspect that Prevent would be onto it. But hey, it's not more than we see in the porn we wank off to is it, lads?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/07/2021 12:10

TRAs have threatened to report GC feminist women to Prevent. I wonder what answer they would receive? Even if they got the brush off I suspect it would be way less dismissive!

Let them crack on with that. That would be the end of Prevent and a PR absolute nightmare for them if they ignore that appalling sexual violence display but react to people saying things like 'biology is real' and 'I don't agree with you'.

It's all stacking up. Day by day.

Yes, and you can bet your bottom dollar that if a woman had said something heinous like, I dunno...''women have vaginas'', they'd be on their hands and fucking knees begging for forgiveness, banging on about providing safe spaces, snowflakes would be demanding an enquiry and the woman would be suspended whilst she was investigated.

But a student getting turned on in front of a room full of people at the thought of holding a knife to women's throats? Meh, nothing to see here. VAWG is ''poignant''. It's ''funny''. It's ''insightful''. Hmm

Fuckers.

KittenKong · 29/07/2021 12:46

Ditto.

@WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld

Is the student a transman?
The student doesn't identify as male or female but as "genderfuck" (a form of nonbinary, apparently) - preferred pronouns are they/them.
highame · 29/07/2021 13:59

[email protected] Might be worth contacting Michelle Donelan. Wonder if we can kick up a stink as these courses are not worthy of taxpayers money, as Ddraig already mentioned up thread as well as the VAWG, which is newsworthy right now.

My bet is that someone is already in touch with LSE

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/07/2021 14:06

Is the student a transman?

In the 2 pics I've seen of the student, they have a prominent Adam's apple, so I'd say it's unlikely they're a bio female.

Empressofthemundane · 29/07/2021 18:59

It's all stacking up. Day by day.

Indeed.

MellieBellie · 30/07/2021 12:14

I just spotted this defence of the LSE student by Grace Lavery. In Grace's eyes, the student (who Grace misgendered) is exercising their right to academic freedom and is not a threat to women. Grace believes it was wrong of the woman to complain.

twitter.com/graceelavery/status/1420460329901899780?s=19

This is also by Grace. It was published by the Guardian 10 days ago

"The modern notion that every vapid provocateur deserves their moment in the scholarly limelight is a direct threat to academic freedom, not a defence of it."

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/20/a-very-modern-threat-to-academic-freedom

From LSE Gender Studies paper (via Sex Matters)
KittenKong · 30/07/2021 12:18

So GL doesn’t believe in women exercising their freedom to complain? Well, that’s... precious.

AnyOldPrion · 30/07/2021 12:41

Vile, abusive men standing up for other men threatening violence against women. No surprises there.
