If any LSE alumni on here feel like penning a complaint... How can this be acceptable in an academic paper?

"“If TERFs think trans* is an endemic threat to feminism, let us be the threat to feminism…

Picture this: I hold a knife to your throat and spit my transness into your ear. Does that turn you on? Are you scared? I sure fucking hope so.”

Matt Thompson, LSE GENDER STUDIES MSc STUDENT"

I'm pretty speechless.

How very interesting for this panel to have been part of the online feminism conference A World in Revolution I'm so pleased that LSE has committed (previously) to making the panel recordings available.

I'm additionally gratified that, courtesy of LSE's commitment to accessibility, they had live captioning and there are transcripts of the panel presentations.

Had an email off MN, basically I said something that may have read like I was tarring a group of people with the same brush.

Obviously not my intention so for anyone who read that and thought I was I do apologise. My point, (not so well made) was that under any other circumstance saying something like this you'd be out on your arse. But stick it to a certain subject and you're good to go. This is not the first time batshit has been said attached to this subject either, and instead of calling it out the fear of being 'phobed' has people going the complete other way. The spouters of said bs feel empowered, ergo untouchable, whilst members of the demographic in question may also feel that this is not putting them in a particularly good light either. And still nothing gets said, nothing gets done.

Anyway, back to this particular fuckwit. I really really hope something gets done this time. Enough.

I hope so too, but U very much doubt anything will be done they seem to be teflon.

@Redapplewreath

Surely if you put something like this in the public domain, you're happy to stand behind it and for it to be widely shared and discussed? Isn't that the point of it? Confused
Yes, exactly. This was published publically. I presume this manifesto was serious and intended to be heard by the women he addresses in it.

To answer the question posed in the recording: Yes, I do consider your threats threatening.

ArabellaScott · 26/07/2021 19:04

Apologies if I've misgendered the person talking about holding knives to women's throats - I am unsure what pronouns are required for a 'genderfuck' identity.

Tibtom · 26/07/2021 19:17

Surely as LSE have published this on twitter they should be prosecuted under the malicious communications act?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 26/07/2021 19:28

from one of the other items of bullshit papers quotes

they are similarly using childhood protection as a façade to generate moral panic founded on racist, colonial and essentialist understandings of gender

fuck me, I really wish some of the visitors here could explain gender so I can see if I have an essentialist understanding of it. Come on love, I'd genuinely be delighted to hear your definition of the gender associated with women

of course then I might be moved to make

harmful claims about [...] gender more broadly

Before the genderfuck''s Twitter account went private, I think I noted that pronouns were 'they/them'.

Imagine Christmas in that household.

'Hello, Matt, how lovely to see you! Tell me all your news.'

'Well, Gran, the first thing is to say I now identify as genderfuck ...'

The obvious suggestion would appear to be "fuck" and "fucker". As in, "Fuck likes to threaten women. Report fucker to the police."

Is it just me who grafted that on to Rocket and Taserface in GOTG2?

What a prince.
Hope he's reported. Pronto

Response from LSE:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This presentation did not abide by the School’s Code of Practice on Free Speech and has been removed from the relevant student conference pages.

Well that's reassuring. sarcasm

What is deeply alarming is that there was an abstract committee (I consulted the pre-conference materials) who let this through.

And a panel moderator who did not object.

And just how many attendees who did not object?

What an inadequate response from LSE.

Wheretobuy · 26/07/2021 19:53

This should result in his expulsion from LSE. No questions asked. This is not even him inciting violence. It’s him threatening violence and shouting about it on Twitter. So the consequences should reflect that.

Please let's not miss the claim from whichever paper is quoted here that concerns about safeguarding around children are being cast as racist, colonial and whatever the crap 'gender essentialist' is.

The withdrawn item is openly threatening towards women as a feature, and other items are deliberately trying to undermine safeguarding as some esoteric form of bigotry.

I don't quite know what is going on at this educational bastion, but none of it looks remotely ethical or healthy, tbh.

I listen to that lot of excusing bullshit and just think.... oh for pete's sake.

No, you over privileged, immature idiots.

You have lost any moral sense or grip on right or wrong. You are completely without boundaries. And you have a massive problem.

Not safeguarding. Not society. Not a whole lot of psychobabbly bullshit and terms you really don't understand except as things to shout to get your own way.

You.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 26/07/2021 20:07

On a more serious note, this needs to be in the newspapers. It's all very well reporting this vicious little sh*t to the police (though not convinced they'll do much), but much MUCH more concerning that an entire department of LSE, and the people involved with these conferences, seem to have been not so much turning a blind eye, as actively promoting, encouraging and even glorifying this stuff. I hope Janice Turner, James Kirkup and others have seen this (I'd tag them here if I could remember their usernames!).

dyslek · 26/07/2021 20:08

God, how much would I lurve to turn up to one of these rediculous 'lectures', in one of Posie's t-shirts.
Id actualy pay money to see the posh boys outraged squeels.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 26/07/2021 20:10

And how deeply typical and ironic that theyfucker can't even be reported for hate crime or "non crime hate incidents", because guess which protected characteristic does NOT get to be covered by those...Hmm

Sophoclesthefox · 26/07/2021 20:14

This person has utterly dehumanised a large number of women to the point where he perceives that a violent threat to them is some sort of justifiable act of philosophical self defence. Numerous other people- smart, academic people- thought this was a sufficiently meritorious and well expressed idea as to amount to academic output.

Fucking hell. You’d imagine that this was some sort of stunt staged by Lindsay/Pluckrose/Boghossian to demonstrate academic capture, wouldn’t you?

But it’s real. This man fantasises about holding knives to women’s throats because they disagree with him.

Lovely guy. Where are our trans allies to explain how all of this is fine/one bad apple/ never happened? Help me out here?

LSE will do nothing. The newly created Open University Gender Critical Research Network was attacked by them. They quietly took it down, but nothing happened.
