If any LSE alumni on here feel like penning a complaint... How can this be acceptable in an academic paper?

"“If TERFs think trans* is an endemic threat to feminism, let us be the threat to feminism…

Picture this: I hold a knife to your throat and spit my transness into your ear. Does that turn you on? Are you scared? I sure fucking hope so.”

Matt Thompson, LSE GENDER STUDIES MSc STUDENT"

I'm pretty speechless.

Again the striking thing about this is that male violence against women is as old as the hills, as is finding a way for establishment men to enable it. They aren't even queering the social order, never mind gender. What is this course for?

IheartJKR · 27/07/2021 11:02

How I wish they still did women’s studies and it hadn’t been made gender studies and focussed on queer theory and Judith fucking Butler.

IheartJKR · 27/07/2021 11:02

@YetAnotherSpartacus

^^

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/07/2021 11:13

Yes, I did it before :). I remember the fall though and the sinking sense that it was changing for the worse. It really was when 'gender studies' (which was by men about men) 'took over' and then pomo thinking infiltrated and turned us away from women's material conditions to more nebulous ideas of representation in literature and the like.

Tesla73 · 27/07/2021 11:28

Don't know if its any help or will do anything but the GBNews has an email address where you can submit stories so have emailed them with links to this and Sexmatters tweet.

May be a pointless exercise but if enough people do it maybe it will make a difference. Out of all of the news outlets that are brave enough to cover "controversial" stories they have the most attention on them at the moment so the reach could be higher.

This is the email address from their site [email protected]

LSE has made the Mail today but not for this reason.

It appears Sex Matters has unearthed a nest of incels and incel apologists at LSE, attending the Transnational Sexual Politics course, taught by Dr. Jacob Breslow and department head Prof Clare Hemmings.

Perhaps this will provoke a thorough investigation into the academics associated with the department, its visiting guests and of course, the students, some of whom appear to harbour incel obsessions.

Starting today Prof Hemmings department, including its senior staff will come under intense scrutiny to identify who is backing incel narratives.

Was it just me that read the LSE student demands in Rik Mayall's Young Ones voice?

Deliriumoftheendless · 27/07/2021 13:48

Or Alan Parker- Urban Warrior.

EishetChayil · 27/07/2021 13:50

This confirms my suspicion that academia is a broiling cesspit of misogyny.

I am dying to know if any of the revolutionaries who want to phase out the privately educated at LSE are privately educated themselves.
secular111 · 27/07/2021 14:44

Even a perfunctory reading of the authors paper (archived at <a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210623205221/gi422conference.com/trans-endemics-embodying-viral-and-monstrous-threat-in-times-of-pandemic/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Trans* Endemics: Embodying Viral and Monstrous Threat in Times of Pandemic indicates that there is a huge synergy between the language employed on the now-defunct incel discussion group Incels.me and the LSE peer-reviewed paper, no doubt read by the students tutors and it has become apparent, fellow students. Indeed the synergy in the language employed by both US-based incels and the LSE-attending author suggests that the language is a regular part of the Departments established narratives.

That LSE is harbouring an incel group, plus staff who it appears are inclined towards incel terminology within its Department of Gender Studies might be a surprise to its senior staff (not least The Director, Baroness Minouche Shafik). How they respond, in addition to how the Prevent strategy and Metropolitan Police respond, is likely to be scrutinised intensely, as a clear-and-present danger to women, particularly female students, has been uncovered.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 27/07/2021 17:21

I keep checking up on Twitter to see if the LSE are going to take any actual action instead of pulling what I like to call a 'Barr' (provide a flimsy apology, then bunker on down until the furore is over and emerge afterwards like fuck all has happened)

They've had enough time to start taking action. I hope I'm proven wrong but so far they seem to think removing it from the student conference pages will suffice, big whoop de do Hmm

Sonarl · 27/07/2021 17:23

I went to LSE, how depressing.

nauticant · 27/07/2021 17:42

It's interesting to look at the tweets to and from LSE MummBraTheEverLeaking:

twitter.com/search?q=(from%3Alsenews)%20OR%20(to%3Alsenews)%20until%3A2021-07-28&src=typed_query&f=live

The LSE is getting no support and quite a kicking. They'll currently be waiting to see if the media pick it up.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/07/2021 18:59

I think it’s a foregone conclusion that they will. The question is just who and how prominently.

I am very interested in whether anything will come of all the reports to the police and Prevent. Terrorism is exactly what TRA violence is.

BaronMunchausen · 27/07/2021 21:15

@OneEpisode

The speaker has a very privileged grammar school type accent, and seems from the little pic the standard white boy type. There are lots of people in 2021 that need education to improve their life opportunities. LSE’s resources seem somewhat wasted here?
The genderfucker* is indeed a recent alumnus of a grammar school.

He has extensive experience working with young children, and volunteers with CoppaFeel! on a Uni 'Boob Team' to raise awareness of breast cancer among non-females.

Quite the CV. Also did a year at a New England private liberal arts college....

Cranberrygin · 27/07/2021 23:29

Nasty stuff. And yes it feels threatening and a bit upsetting. It’s also pretty silly. But isn’t the paper designed to provoke this kind of reaction? Ridiculous that this is being presented as an academic paper - but seems to me this may say more about falling standards in LSE than anything else.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/07/2021 00:36

I think this should go further and we should campaign to have this as a dedicated Prevent strand. This dangerous extremist is not the first. We've had gun making at Brunel, bomb threats to WPUK, PCSOs making videos of themselves smashing images of women...

... dedicated Prevent strand. Now.

Yes. I think it's amply justified.

Letter sent from Baroness Nicholson.

Thank you Imnobody.

I see the Baroness has taken an interesting line on this. I look forward to seeing the reply.

transdimensional · 28/07/2021 11:24

The "LSE Class War" manifesto is most likely something of an irrelevance, being the work of a small minority of people. Such groups have always existed on campuses and are entitled to hold their views. The LSE gender studies paper scandal is something much worse (so if the Class War manifesto deserved media coverage then the gender studies paper deserves 10 times as much) because it is threatening material and because LSE staff must have been involved in thinking it was OK to publish and propagate.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/07/2021 11:36

I agree about the LSE Class War stuff. Hell, in my day we used to stencil 'Eat the Rich' across the campus. OTOH the conservative students used to want to get rid of welfare. The paper that was published is much more concerning because it was university-sanctioned.

This.

It would defeat the understanding of any reasonable person that the police and courts are prosecuting as 'hate' the statement of every day reality and an interesting if surprising personal perception of a ribbon...

and yet threatening and describing in active sexual excitement the actual physical harm, violence and murder of others is apparently perfectly ok.

Prevent. What the bloody hell are female humans actually paying taxes for these days?
